The story of Abraham and the Idol shop comes from the Jewish allegorical work Midrash Raba on Genesis 38.

Dan saying “the Raiders aren’t a real football team” is a scary thing to say. I grew up around Raiders fans. 😅😅😅

It has been interesting to watch Evangelical scholars wrestle with and try to incorporate this fact into their scholarship.

Very cool, anybody else hear a certain guitar riff theme song while listening to Dan?

Yes, I considered asking about gold plates, but we moved on to other topics.

The punchline to the Abraham story is when asked to explain what happened, Abraham replied, "The big one did it".

It's one of my favourite non-canon stories. It was a pretty based move.

I have waited for ages for a person adressing all these issues I had and have with the OT and the God presened therein from a well foundet position,

@@GospelTangents One question I would have loved to ask Dan is when he talks about Isiah, where it states about God that "there is none else besides me"... I understand that the same author uses the same rethoric about cities like Moab and Babylon, and I first tought this was a really good point to make, but the way I read it in the Bible, it talks about these cities having become evil, meaning, when they state that they "there is none besides them", could it not just refere to them having become so pridefull asto actually claim that noone is besides them, not even God? Kind of like it is describing the sin of claiming to be God, not to be in need of God? If that were the case, it would not would not exlude the possibility from God still being the only "real one", that has noone besides him...
If you get a chance to talk to Dan, would love to hear his response on that :)

Quick answer: Probably he was not, at least at the beginning of his story. (I think that is assumed by because of the culture he was raised in and the polytheism of his family.) But throughout the story he speaks to only one God and is spoken to by only one God. Given that, we can conclude he became a monotheist by the end.
