- We had this video sent into us this morning and a ** warning as some viewers might find this disturbing ** Shows how quickly once again it can go wrong for us all off road. Very easy to pass judgement from a computer but in our opinion if working the winch on the front of the vehicle should of been hooked up to a suitable anchor point and the wheels chocked to help prevent the 4WD rolling backwards. Driver remains in 4WD with foot firmly on footbrake in 1st gear.
Seems too much momentum was used when ascending the hill resulting in the typical bouncing of the front end and being thrown off line. We hope everyone involved was ok as this was a bad roll over. Please keep safe out there everyone it can go so wrong so quick.

Could been avoided by using that winch
The car was dead so it probably wouldn’t of worked

@@lauchlanstill6677 you can disengage a winch to unwind it by hand, then engage it to lock it in. Would have been safer to do so. Maybe even rush in to put some rocks and wedge them under the rear wheel from the drivers side, safest spot if it did roll back while doing so.
He probably didn’t realise how bad of a spot he was in
Seen this video a few times its a great example of how easy it is to make mistakes and maybe loose your life,we all pray that the duo got out of it unscathed, rolling back on uneven surfaces is dodgy without spotters at the best of times good video to learn from.

ive seen heapsof vids where something goes wrong and you really cant tell how steep the hill is, but not this one.

If only a winch was spooled, around the bullbar on the ready ? I assume this may have helped. I am new to 4wd'ing and own an identical shorty but still straight. I'd like to keep it that way

this is all fault from the man on the ground - he shoulded spot he was in a terrible position and eventually prevent by putting some weight on the side!

That was TERRIBLE.
He kept rolling back for no reason. That's what made it roll. Should have put it in low range and moved forward slowly. He just kept rolling back. What a silly person.

This is why I prefer auto for offroad rigs. Sometimes you can't afford to roll back even an inch. Much safer to have as many pedals as you have feet.
If you do not teach how NOT to roll when driving uphill the transmission type does not matter.

Yes, auto transmissions compensate for inexperienced drivers.
unless you can drive 2 foot and stall up the torque convertor, then balance it so you don't get wheel spin, or the car going backwards your argument is invalid for this clip. I'd rather 1 foot clutch, 1 hand diff/hand brake and one on the throttle. Then I control the shit show. I don't have to guess how the Auto is going to react.
Quite simply it is driver control. If you don't feel confident, then don't do it. It got sent express post, bounced, got unstable and at that point I think a winch recovery was the only safe soloution
