    Often overlooked is the GPS functionality that is built into the 5G chip (and provides the enhanced geolocating services many apps require).

    I'm sorry, but don’t you always have your phone with you to hotspot? The only use case for 5G on a tablet is if you are not with your main phone. And that’s never. I believe there are better use of that £200, if you ask me. Especially in this economy.

    I absolutely love my iPad Air M2 (2024) with 5G. You aren’t lying that it is faster than my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I was in a very busy mall yesterday with lots of interference from the WiFi at all of the different stores, and everyone else’s devices and I was still getting 624mbps download. The upload isn’t anything to write home about, sitting around 50mbps but you wouldn’t even notice without running an OOKLA Speedtest. It is more than worth it.

    I’ve always used the cellular version of the iPad since the iPad 2 in 2011 and I totally agree with you, it’s worth it, even if it’s expensive. To be always connected without thinking is nice. To justify the price, you have to know that you have GPS with the cellular version and it’s sometimes useful on an iPad.

    I went cellular but went 256gb and not sure if regret it yet. I don’t store a lot and do like it clean. Thinking I could buy external if ever dive into video editing. What do you have now (gb) and what are you going to get?

    • @richarddcrossley
      @richarddcrossley Місяць тому +2

      You did the right thing. I’ve done exactly the same after having 2TB 5G M1. iOS is a very online centric operating system and unlike the old 128GB the 256GB is enough to add a few films or tv shows for a plane trip. It’s nice for me to have my entire photo library on my iPad 2TB but it’s not necessary. If you use cloud storage

    Qualcomm - who makes the modems Apple uses - has been extorting the handset market for years.
    Qualcomm got their IP included in cellular standards by promising to license their IP on a FRAND (Fair, Reasonable, And Non Discriminatory) basis, but when it comes time to put their modem in your device, they charge:
    1. Once for the chip
    2. A licensing fee for the IP in the chip
    3. A _percentage_ of the enclosing device's _full retail_ price
    Qualcomm is a scum company, and I can't _wait_ until Apple makes their own modems.
    HP got caught out doing something similar, and the concept of patent exhaustion was a result - but as long as you need Qualcomm's modems you have to acquiesce or your device doesn't get to include them.
    Apple was all set to testify against Qualcomm in an FTC hearing, but when they discovered that their modems weren't ready for prime time they were forced to withdraw their testimony.

    im of the opposite opinion. i had a cellular ipad in the past and over 3 years i had that ipad i used the cellular feature maybe twice. with so many wifi hotspots and never having any slow tethering issue with my iphone there just wasnt a need to pay extra for data service to use the cellular feature. so felt like i wasted my money getting the feature.

    I have Cellular on mine and I’m glad I did. Even though I most of the time Hotspot my iPad to my phones Hotspot when I’m out and about (since out of the two my iPhone is using unlimited while my iPad is not so yah I would obviously would use my phones Hotspot), if whenever my Hotspot connection decide to disconnect for whatever reason (which it does so I know I can’t rely entirely on my Hotspot) its good that that I do have Cellular on mine so I know I wouldn’t be disconnected from the internet if something dose happen.

    I’ve had iPad Pro since the first one in various levels and 5G is definitely worth it. Have an M1 13 inch 2TB and 5G but this year I’ve gone for the 256GB M4 11 but with 5G because I don’t need the storage with 5G. I’ve found iPad is so much useful with 5G as opposed to bigger storage. No need to use slow and unsecured WiFi. I use iCloud a lot and with the option to use external storage makes it easier. I don’t want to use hotspot as usually using 5G when travelling and want to save my phone for Apple wallet and calls. Top tip is also to get it on a different network to your main phone ideally!

    • @FaizAly
      @FaizAly  Місяць тому +2

      Great points! Just curious - why get it on a different network from your phone?

    • @richarddcrossley
      @richarddcrossley Місяць тому +1

      @@FaizAly so if you go somewhere with bad signal on your iPad network you can tether to your iPhone and visa versa. In the U.K. we don’t have the option to split your existing plan over two devices. We did have to years ago but it was deemed a security risk I believe but also networks want more money from you! If you can do that it’s a big different but I like the redundancy. Just make sure you don’t pick an MVNO that uses the same network as your primary phone 😂

    $200 is way too much, another example of Apple gouging its customers, like what they do for extra storage. I can't see a need for it especially if you can get wifi and have a good vpn. A lot cheaper.

    Greetings yes I do believe that having 5G is worth it. I too have my iPad. I have an iPad mini that’s the fifth generation and so I do have Wi-Fi data on my tablet. It’s $20 a month month for unlimited data. My carrier is Verizon and whether or not you use you know email or whatever you can do iMessage you could do mostly but it’s $20 a month for the service and $35 a month for the first time activation, but whether you use it or not, it’s $20 a month but it’s worth it if you’ll always have data on your phone or tablet so the phone the tablet hopefully this information helps. Thank you for the video. Hopefully, I can see you in the. Next one.

    Like 7 years ago my old company gave me an iPad with 4G. Once you get used to it there is no going back. Public WiFi is slow, unstable and insecure. Using your cell phone hotspot is inconsistent at best. Get the 5g. Some asked me this question yesterday and I stated I’d go to the 11in before I gave up 5g.

    Perhaps in a few years' time, when I upgrade my M4 iPad Pro, I'll consider going cellular. I didn't feel the need for it right now because I already use a 4G MiFi device as mobile internet connectivity for my laptops. I don't trust publicly available WiFi 😅 . I appreciate you laying out the benefits of a 5G iPad 😊👍

    I’ve been a fan of the iPad ever since iPad 2 and all of mine were cellular models! The tethering experience is garbage! I like my devices to be independent of each other in that regard. Also I use my iPad for navigation and exploratory purposes when I’m on road trips as a passenger and that is a nicer experience on a bigger screen that has GPS which the WiFi models don’t have.

    100% agreed. Like a lot of people, I used to treat the 5G iPads as unnecessary and redundant but as my frustrations regarding unstable connections and iPad notification management mounted, I started upgrading my iPads to exclusively to the cellular models and it was beyond GODSEND. People don’t realize how convenient it is until they tried it and went back to a wifi only model. As expensive of a price jump it is from the wifi only model, the difference seems moot once you realize how much more versatile it becomes when out and about because of an always on connection. Nothing screams more of “wasted money” than an iPad sitting in a drawer somewhere uncharged due to being a useless brick outside of the house 😅
