@@jakewhite3163 true, but if you look for nationwide offers you can sometimes find someone selling one. I just bought my 2015 manual Golf Sportwagen TDI with 64k miles. Well rounded review! I actually just purchased one of these 2 days ago! It has been sitting on the dealership lot for 2 years awaiting the software approval for the emissions fix. Got a $5000 rebate from VW and 0% financing for 72 months! Its an awesome car, however, I wonder how much the software update has affected the vehicles performance? Would love to see a side by side comparison of two cars, one with the update and on without. I have driven my car about 300 miles in the last 2 days and am averaging 48.3mpg! It's a shame that the dieselgate scandal took place, I am truly going to miss VW diesels in the United States!
When you enjoyed driving this 150hp-version, you'll happy to hear that the GTD-version (184 hp), known from the hatchback, will also come for the SportWagen (and a R-version with 300 hp will come out soon, too). In europe, it is able to rather purchase the "Skoda Octavia Combi" or the "Seat Leon ST" (both VAG-products, based on the Golf). In my opinion both have got a more polished and sportier design. The Octavia has got a little bit increased practicability because there is more room in the back and offers smart solutions and gimmicks for its driver, e.g. in the gas cap you can find an ice scraper.. The Seat then has a more aggressive look, attracts a younger audience. There are also "sport versions" of both cars: The Rs for the Octavia (184hp 2.0 TDI or 220hp 2.0 TSI) and the Cupra (265 hp or 280hp 2.0 TSI-engines) for the Leon. The price for the Cupra with 265hp starts with about 30.000€ which is really good compared to a GTi that has 35hp less.
Hi Kyle, I'am from Germany and ist very funny to listen to your dialect when you said 'Volkswagen' or some of the other German words. Sorry about my English, its not the best i think :D Good work, great video. Keep it up!
As someone who is used to the 2.0 TDIs in Europe I thought that the engine noise is pretty noticeable. So I started a little investigation: Cetane in diesel is like octane in standard gas. In simplified terms it has the same influence on running smoothness and so on. The ultra-low sulfur diesel in the US was established in 2005 and has to have at least 40 cetane (ASTM D 975) while Europe requires at least 51 cetane since 2001 (Euro3).
Great Vid. Thank you for all the great work you done over the years. You are the 1st car channel i subbed to. In fact you're one of the 1st channels i subbed to. Again, Thanks.
Great review, thank you. My wife's 2015 Sportswagen TDI is almost as much fun to drive as my 2014 Audi Q5 TFSI. And added bonus is the TDI averages about twice the mileage of the Q5 - about 5.5 litres per 100 km. (50 mpg). Not bad for a car that costs half as much as the Q5 and is better for the environment.
I had a friend who had her VW Golf TDI wagon basically blow up when a timing belt broke and knocked an airline out. Though it was still under warranty and VW replaced the whole thing. By the way, great video Kyle!

I traded my Jetta SportWagen TDI in for one of these two weeks ago, in that same color. Mine is a TDI SEL, though, where this one appears to be a TDI SE. My one complaint is that someone at Volkswagen thought the black plastic trim on the inside of the SEL was *more* upscale than the faux brushed aluminum on the SE; I'd have rather had the brushed aluminum look.
Philip Ward I have a video on the GTI I've already filmed, but there's no drive segment. Was going to try and hold out for a press vehicle. Trying to integrate as many drives as possible!
I recently bought the base "S" trim level TSI. I needed a new car pretty fast and was able to get one. I think it handles well and it fits my needs at the moment--running errands in the heat. including taking the dogs to the vet. The air conditioning seems great! However, at this point I don't know if I would find it comfortable for a road trip. I think the seats don't have enough padding in the bottom, and I was uncomfortable after an afternoon of running errands. Although your review is for the TDI, I think the TSI and TDI at all trim levels are supposed to have the same interiors including the seats.

***** It looks a bit strange. When I think of a Golf, I think of a small fun hatchback. But the SportWagen make it look like the Jetta Wagon and the Golf had a baby.
Thorough and very well done review! you are very fortunate to be able to take it on such a long road trip but I wish you would have let us know what kind of fuel economy you achieved. doesn't the S model have the push to start keyless go as well? You were very good to mention the keyless entry and lock of which I was unaware but does the s have that as well? I love a good exhaust clip... From a V8. Revving the piss out of that little TDI went on entirely too long though. Maybe two revs, 2 seconds, move on. Keep up the good work!
Kyle, You said that there is less rear seat space in the middle because of the room for the drivetrain...why does there need to be room for a drive shaft down the middle of a fwd car? Do you know?
+Lee Drummond -- Actually, the Golf Alltrack is a slightly-lifted Golf SportWagen with 4MOTION, which VW will be bringing to the United States. I have a 2015 Golf SportWagen TDI SEL, and I think the hump is annoying too, because it effectively makes the car a four-seater. Now, you might argue that the hump is because of the AWD system; however previously to this, I had the 2014 Jetta SportWagen TDI (which is this car's predecessor). It also had the hump and it was not available with AWD at any point. The Mk.6 Golf R was, but that's it. And it was on a completely different chassis, because technically the Jetta SportWagen used the Mk.5 chassis. The only reason I can come up with as to why the hump is there is for chassis stiffening.
Kyree S. Williams Ya, that makes sense. Thanks for the comment. It could have been for packaging as well I guess. Or maybe they planned an AWD variant in the mix but upgraded the chassis before having the chance to do so. I am not well versed in VW hardware so I can only speculate.
The most european Volksawgen in ´merica right there. I like that VW offers this Diesel Wagon even with a manual in the US. This car makes a perfect daily, save gas money for the V8 :) I noticed that this version doent get the the electric parking brake from european models, some hate it some like it. Also this Golf comes with AdBlue injection and gets the cheaper real axle for the big diesel. Now they should build the Passat Variant in the US :)
with a tune you get 'em to like 200 bhp and 350+ ft-lbs of torque they're not meant for straight line speed (it's an economy car), but man does it feel fast and torquey
Vice review. Very thorough. By the way does the red light in the bottom of the door lights up or is just a reflector? I just bought a limited edition golf sportswagen yesterday and i don't know if it lights up.

Oh wait I see the price in description. Almost twice as much as I paid for my Jetta last yr! Wow
hi kyle! nice one! will you make videos of old school cars soon?
***** It looks a bit strange. When I think of a Golf, I think of a small fun hatchback. But the SportWagen make it look like the Jetta Wagon and the Golf had a baby.
I really enjoyed this video, why don't you make a review of Passat B5.5 W8 , or a Golf R or GTi ?
Hey guys, has everyone been following up on the TDI buyback recall and how (mostly) everyone's cars have been affected?
Hey Kyle I've been thinking about purchasing the Mini Hardtop 4-Door and I was hoping you could do a video on that car. Thanks :)
You should review the 2015 Subaru WRX sti
Thorough and very well done review! you are very fortunate to be able to take it on such a long road trip but I wish you would have let us know what kind of fuel economy you achieved. doesn't the S model have the push to start keyless go as well? You were very good to mention the keyless entry and lock of which I was unaware but does the s have that as well? I love a good exhaust clip... From a V8. Revving the piss out of that little TDI went on entirely too long though. Maybe two revs, 2 seconds, move on. Keep up the good work!
Are you thinking of reviewing the new golf? I need advice.
NICE 2015 Volkswagen Golf TDI SportWagen Start Up, Road Test, and In Depth Review
Try toyota caldina last gen. A beast it really is in wagon class
Kyle,
You said that there is less rear seat space in the middle because of the room for the drivetrain...why does there need to be room for a drive shaft down the middle of a fwd car? Do you know?
you can also buy it with 4 wheel drive
+David Roithner not in the states. Would they put hump in there for awd applications abroad?
Kyree S. Williams
Ya, that makes sense.
This car makes a perfect daily, save gas money for the V8 :)
I noticed that this version doent get the the electric parking brake from european models, some hate it some like it. Also this Golf comes with AdBlue injection and gets the cheaper real axle for the big diesel.
Now they should build the Passat Variant in the US :)
Awww man 😫 people underestimate how powerful these tdi's were.
with a tune you get 'em to like 200 bhp and 350+ ft-lbs of torque
they're not meant for straight line speed (it's an economy car), but man does it feel fast and torquey
Nice video!
The Jetta wagen is the wagens beginning
Liking the video before watching it because you'll know it'll be amazing..:)
econpkftw One of my better edited videos as of late, was able to really get creative with personal experiences :)
I'm your biggest fan of cars :D
Excellent vehicle!👍🏻👍🏻
Vice review. Very thorough. By the way does the red light in the bottom of the door lights up or is just a reflector? I just bought a limited edition golf sportswagen yesterday and i don't know if it lights up.
Kyle, test please Nissan Qashqai 2015!
Awesome Review!
