I feel really lucky and really blessed to have lived in the same time as The Moody Blues.
This song means a lot to millions Justin
To those who know the song, no explanation is necessary. To those who don't, no explanation is possible.
Robert Wilcox you are absolutely right!
@@dianeliebal6940 Right on sister!
The first Moody Blues song I ever heard. I'm probably not alone. Nights in White Satin never gets old. I'm probably not alone in that sentiment either.
It's my favorite song from the first time I heard it in the mid seventies as a teenager and still is as of today. There are a lot of great songs out there, but are not at the level Nights and White Satin is especially the orchestra version.
I feel lucky to see the Moody Blues in concert 12 times. Justin is amazing and he has great people playing with him.
This is such a beautiful song but such a sad song. Each time I hear it it takes me back to my youth when I heard this beautiful song on the radio. I fell in love with this voice crying out how much he loved this woman. And to this day, I still get the same reaction as if I have heard it for the first time. The song holds such emotion to it. Each time I feel so sorry for the man who lost his love and is reminded of it each time he sees couples in love walk by unaware of his suffering. "Oh how I love you" simply breaks my heart of the love this man has for this woman, who has moved on with her life. Thank you Justin for this beautiful song. I have been waiting for you to sing this song. I do hope one day you will be able to travel again and give your lovely concerts, when we all can step back and listen to your beautiful songs and forget about what is going on with the world beyond the doors that separate us from the rest of the world.
Zzz
... only a completely detached and emotionless, psychopathic, dissociative would make a statement such as "zzz" ... But, OH, God Bless You ...
Jealous much, Brian Kelly?
this is the song my mom used to turn up the volume on every time it was on the radio it was 1968 and ive been a hardcore Moodies fan ever since
@Truth Willout thx, she definitely was
Yesterday was my late significant other's birthday...he loved this song...he could recite all of the words....so glad I was able to take him to 2 Moodies concerts!
You took the words from a page in my life. Almost identical.
In the U.S this song was a hit on the rock charts in three consecutive decades. No other rock song has ever done that. Way to go. Thanks Justin.
I'd forgotten that. IIRC some NYC or LA dj on an 8-12pm shift would close out his show every night with NiWS, it got picked up on and went to gold again (the album.) I don't remember the 80s surge.
Justin has the best voice EVER! I could listen to him all day long.
I already do! I have had all the Moody Blues albums since they first started. Such magical talent!! xxx
In my 70's now. Was a awesome song back in the day and still is. I am a retired Pedal Steel Guitar player as of last January 1st. Hauling gear and the road tired me down. Health issues now. At home in my studio I recorded myself putting Pedal Steel behind your song. Awesome song for sure!! Was a Country player for many years, but love 60's rock..
The song that tops almost all songs. I listen to the complete album Days of Future Passed by this group of Musical Knights several times every year, which in my opinion is one of the best 10 albums ever made. It transports me from the moment I hear the "reverse" gong in the beginning until the very end. It's magical. It's powerful and full of life. 43 or 44 minutes of joy. It's a Musical; a modern Opera, a Symphony, I don't know. What I know is, it is a Masterpiece!
Thank you Justin. There has never been, and never will be another voice like yours. 💕 Much love!
Wonderful song! If I remember right, Justin wrote this song when he was super young, nineteen years of age.
I loved the little extra flute notes Karmen added! Good job as always Justin. Julie and Mike can be counted on for their contributions too. ❤️🎶🎶🎶🎶
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
And The Lady playing the flute.....gorgeous.
You summed it up perfectly when you stopped then said “it’s just Nights In White Satin”. This song transcends words and explanations and time. I don’t know why or how. It just is. Perfect.
Truly
Absolutely perfect !!
This is by far the best thing I have seen on youtube all year.
Maybe this song doesn’t need a back story.
“Just what the truth is, I can’t say anymore.”
I grew up on the Moody Blues music back in the 60's and 70's. I have the magnificent 7 among many other albums. The most important music in my life!!
I can’t help but immerse myself totally in this song every time I hear it. Thank you, Justin, for this enlightening and uplifting series.
52 years.Reminds me of the regrets and break ups in my life.Just a romantic song
I. Never. Have had the words to describe the feelings that this song and all Moodies songs really, make me feel.
I love you guys. Pure and simple. Justin, you are timeless, ageless, classic. I hear the liner notes and still get chills.
Thank you for sharing 💖👏🎉👍😁
Justin Hayward, I've been a fan of yours since I was 5 years old and first heard Your Wildest Dreams on the television and stopped dead in my tracks to listen. Beautiful as always. I pray one day I'll get to see you in person. I pray... 🙏
Justin was 19 years old when he wrote Nights in White Satin........amazing......
I can remember in my youth, writing letters that were never sent. I have not visited that memory in a while.
Justin Hayward's voice is truly a gift. I am glad I'm living in a time that I can hear him sing. ❤️😷😊
What a straightforward and beautiful version of a song I've loved for (yikes) more than 50 years.
What can one say? I’ve seen/heard this performed many many times by the band, and latterly the “solo” version, and this is the BEST yet. So much control, so much passion (still, how so?).
Never, ever a disappointing performance by our man Justin....and friends, of course.
Thanks so much for still doing this, and for sharing at this difficult time.
We love you
I love singing this song seems like a different world when singers and righters preform what a generation 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 loved it
Sometimes our legacy isn't our own choosing. I'm sure his life is so much more than this song, this album. But he struck a chord in people with this work of art. When millions of people instantly find oneness just hearing the music, you have a beautiful legacy.
Recorded in Melbourne Florida. I live in the other Melbourne, the Covid capital of Australia. Thanks Justin, that cheered me up no end. You've still got it and you always will.
I glad that he still fine enough to play a concert, Justin is just one of the greatest singer and artists out there that carry the old good day where music were still not be putting on algorithm processing as we have today.
VERY IMPRESSIVE that he can still kill it with that wonderful voice 👏
I don’t know if I’ll feel a song more deeply in my marrow for as long as I live. ♥️
This is how I am feeling right now. I just lost my wife of 32 years on Sunday to cancer. Thank you for sharing.
I am sorry for your loss and what you endured, lost my sister to that evil disease 💚
Thank you so very much, Mr. Hayward. Nights in white satin was our high school Prom song in 1973.
I was hooked the first time I heard "Nights in White Satin" on the radio... And that was when it was first released. It still makes me feel I am leaving my body...being in a world within itself. The love for their music never ends....with each song the love is sparked...a continuum.
This song hasn't aged at all. It was fantastic in 1967 and it's still fantastic now.
Justin’s vocals are second to none. One of the most iconic , beautiful songs ever.
Makes me cry every time.
Just awesome, just like old times...I've seen it done live dozens and times. It just gets better with age. Love you Moody Blues...God Bless.....Thankyou for all those years of the best music and times...your music is forever...✝
Was just sitting here thinking of my all time favourite songs, and this has to be my number 1. Written well before my time, but just a remarkable song. Loved it when I was a child, and love it just as much now.
My favourite band in the sixties. Justin’s vocals are so distinctive and he still does it! Brilliant. Love the flute part, Spot on! 👍👏👏👏
If I had a dollar for every time I listened to this... and as others have said, it will never get old! I recall well listening to the full version with the poem and bong at the end but years ago I woke from a coma 11 days after doctors told my wife I'd never be the same o able to walk IF I did survive. My first words were the entire poem 'Late Lament' word for word ...'' Breathe deep, the gathering gloom...''and 3 days later I stood up falling the first time but walked by days end.
When all the doctors had given up, the love, the tears, her fight and endurance my wife gave for me, never leaving my side brought me back. This song means SO much to me! Thank you Justin and The Moody Blues! 🤗
Nights in White Satin... The end of one love affair and the start of another... I recall you saying once!!..💔... ❤️
The magic in the room, and the wizards that are making it. Along with enchanted, involved witnesses.
Well, the magic was definitely present that evening, Justin...because this number, though always heartfelt, was disarming. You had me
at the first I love you, which felt especially tender.
Yep me to goose bumps 😊
Same here. It felt like Justin's voice crawled up my back. Magical!
Yes it was.
In 1970 I was traveling in Europe for a year in a V.W. Camper with a good friend. While traveling we found out about the Isle of Wight concert and decided to attend. This is where I fell in love with a band I had never heard of before. To top the cake I found out the drummers 1st name, Graeme and decided if I ever had a son his name would be Graeme. On May 27, 1979, 9 years later he was born. Besides going to many land concerts I sailed on their 1st. 3 ocean cruise concerts in the mid 20's out of Florida. To wrap it up they are and always will be the best band ever. No one has ever even come close to being better than THE MOODY BLUES!
Ever since I was ten years old, and had Nights in white satin, the 45 playing all day on my phonograph, this song has been magic to me. Now, I’m 57 and it’s still my favorite song! And the Moodys, still my favorite band and Justin the best songwriter of all time!!! Can’t wait to see them in concert, once this pandemic is over.
This brings me back to the 60 year mark. It was my first love song. Thumbs up and thanks for sharing your music.
Awesome. My favorite song of all time. Beautiful and haunting. Cheers 🇬🇧♥️
I was 13 when I first heard it on the radio, the unmistakable voice of Justin …. Then the flute part came… wow I was in another planet… thx Justin still my old time favorite song
I've heard the Moody Blues in so many settings since this song appeared - treasured albums, concerts, and orchestral settings. This acoustic stage with the perfect balance of instruments and vocals is so special. Justin Hayward, you treat us so well!
I was 13 years old when I first this gigantic song on the radio, the unmistakable voice of Justin , then the flute part came wow …. I was on another plant thank you Justin
I love hearing Justin talk about the Songs & Singing Them. Forever.
Congratulations Justin! You and this fine team of musical talent has still succeeded in making this old 54 year old cry. This song has special meaning as it was the last time my first Wife and I saw you at Kings Island during our divorce. I loved her with all my heart and lost it then as well and you still bring that innocent emotion out of me. Thank all of you for this video series as every Tuesday is great to look forward too!
King's Island! Hey, did you go to the Moodies concert there August 13, 1991? That concert almost blew The Beast right off its track! :-) Kidding, but it was a fantastic night. Much better than the year before there in 1990. I wish someone had taped it, but I guess that wasn't so easy to do back then.
It was the last show they ever played there. I was front row far left side or Stage far right side. I really loved the Patrick Moraz touring years, he was so insane and skilled keyboardist!
@@kevkavalier Ah - OK. I was in front of John next to the stage (as close as the orange snow fence would let us be, that is). That was the last time they ever played Timberwolf. Did you happen to see Justin almost walk off the stage at the very end while they were saying Good-bye? That could have been disastrous, as it was quite a drop to the ground...at least 10-15 feet. It was a very high stage as you might recall. After that, they relocated down to Riverbend and I spent a few years driving from NE Ohio down there. A long drive. But the Riverbend concerts were great too. In my opinion though, nothing topped Blossom. Those were magical.
Wow! Just wow.
That descrpition and story is almost as Gorgeous as the song!!! tears are rolling!! xxx
❤️ Thank you, Justin for this one, the ever-enchanting "Nights". 'Nothing like the real thing, baby! ' Your idea to do this web series is genius! ❤️
What a beautiful masterpiece of sound 😇
Yes I love you Justin! Greatest song ever! Thank you for these Tuesday afternoons with you!!❤️
One of the most beautiful songs of my lifetime.
Pure magic 💖
Forever Epic, one of best songs and Days of future passed is such a great unique album of one’s daily life..a lot of good groups in 1967,68. Moody’s are one of the greats.... I personally like their older stuff.. cool deep cosmic, psych sounds in there tunes...thx justin
Just gorgeous. Thank you for sharing these performances, Justin, and for all you've given us over these years. You are a treasure.
Truly one of my favourites. Great to hear over and over. Justin brings emotion to his songs so easily. Thaank you. 12/23
Thank you!
Mesmerizing, as always.
One of the greatest songs of all time.
Always the high point in every concert.
Thank you, Justin.
The vocal harmony kicked in and then the first chorus brought a tear to my eye.
My favorite song of The Moody Blues
Stirring stuff. A classic tune wrapped in new packaging. What a fantastic honor it must be for those three talented players to accompany Hayward on his masterwork.
Justin, thanks so much for creating this song. This song and many other Moody Blues songs got me through many lonely teenage years.
This particular audience member was completely spellbound watching and hearing your performance that magical evening in Melbourne, Justin. Thank you so much for posting this!
To you Justin Hayward, this song is the alchemy of the soul. It touches each of us differently. In my youth it was our anthem for our school, we were the Knights! Later it was a memory to be reflected on. Now it is that and more. Lyrics speak to me as never before. Thank you for this gift to the cosmos. Every time this song plays on a radio station it speeds out into the universe at light speed. At some point an ear will strain to hear it and wonder about a people that produced an artist that created this beautiful song. The song will outlive us all and possibly our world. Perhaps it will inspire someone many millions of years from now, or perhaps it will leave them with a question and they will begin their journey.
My first dance with my newly wed bride 46 years ago. Timeless. 🥰
All of the Moody Blues music takes me on a journey to a far away place, a good place way from all the troubles and cares of this world. I'm 46 and have enjoyed their music since I was a young boy. My wife and I seen them in concert at the Tivoli theater in Chattanooga TN 3 years ago and what a great time we had. We have tickets for Justin's show in Nashville this November. Hope it doesn't get cancelled 🙂
I'm sorry to tell you that the entire fall tour this time has been cancelled. It's official, and you can see Justin's letter about it on his FaceBook page. Very sad.
Am fortunate to have seen the Moodies performing this classic live in Rotterdam Ahoy twice. One concert was with Patrick Moraz. The applause went on and on for minutes after this song. Even though the acoustics of Ahoy were only so so, the atmosphere was just magic. Now several decades later in a very different setting, the magic is still there. What a song and performance!
Have been very fortunate to have had chance to see Moodies many times...
gotta say there is Nothing in this world that I could say to express how
Absolutely Breathtaking, Spiritual, Joyous....you name it!!! Like an out of body
experience!!!!! My fav band of all time...The energy we receive from them
is priceless...I met John a couple of times...Amazing man, soooo Kind and loved their fans!! I was proud I didnt geek out...lol!! We talked about so many
things, music, travel, food on the road, his home, was interested in my job and so on.....I asked him , with touring how do get by being perhaps really tired from the road??? John said...We will be backstage, ready to walk on...feeling
completely shattered, so tired...Then that all changes when we hear the roar of the crowd!! You give us the energy and we are so grateful!! I said, OMG and we
your fans, love you all so much and forever grateful!!! wow, ty for your post!!!
Once at Wembley arena the ovation after Nights went on for 13 minutes….fuelled by Graeme from behind I’m sure. Justin looked increasingly embarrassed, and not long after that they began moving on to the next song to make it shorter!!
Nights in White Satin is a forever classic from The Moody Blues! Thank you, Justin, for all of your and the band's music over the years! Love Tuesday Afternoons even better now with your musical meetings with us all your fans! Thank you, Justin!
Inspiring poetry, celebrations of yearning and beauty, romanticism, passionate imagery, orchestral magic perfectly blended with rock, folk and blues, soaring vocals and crescendos, with their best albums over 50 years old and still so fresh, modern and holding up so spectacularly - and now, with Justin just 6 years away from turning 80 - how amazing is the story of the Moody’s! They are in a class by themselves. And I NEVER get tired of dreaming along with Days of Future Past!
when you make a song that feeds a soul, you have done alright
Justin. You are absolutely brilliant as a performer and song writer. The Moody Blues are my favorite and I am so privileged to have gone to 10 - 12 concerts probably starting in 1970. Thank you for the music, the awesome memories I have of experiencing the Moody Blues Night in White Satin has always been my favorite and seeing you on tour and playing acoustic guitar is a gift.
I remember when I was a kid and had this song on a 45 record this song just blew me away that I had to play it over and over again
W-O-W!!!
I saw you play this and many other great songs at the Montreal forum many many years ago, it was magical to say the least
I bought your records, then cassettes, then CD's,,,,,,thank you for the lyrics, music, poetry, all.
A simple musical statement of & raw emotional intent that transcends its own time & lays the ground for future memories of times, loves & experiences past but never forgotten.
These videos are brilliant Justin
Thank you for the gift of Nights in White Satin, Justin
I remember listening to this tune...so long ago...and I'm still listening...far out..well done Justin......
This song became a part of my life!
Beautiful Justin!!
This one always makes me think of my father. It was he who played Moody Blues songs and introduced me to your beautiful voice and lyrics. 👍 ❤ 🌹 Thank you.
Wonderful collaboration by all in this performance... and Justin is perfection as always. ✌♥️
Fan from Go Now. I absolutely love the Moodies. This song is so beautiful and timeless. Justin you are a lovely human being xx
A brilliant concert...
Thank you..
IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO ATTEMPT TO REINCARNATE THE MOODY BLUE'S.......😇❤🙏💋
Breathtaking!
Yes we shared the vibe back then and with that voice and magical songs, we continue getting the spirit caressed. 😌💖
Thank you so much, I was just listening to that song on my phone and wishing I could see you sign it live one ore time.
Whenever I hear this song, I’m transported back to my high school cafeteria. ☺️
this song, and many others by the moody blues, is one of the greatest achievements within world culture in 20th century... it is imbued (as are first 7 + eighth = magical numbers!) with a sublime spiritual inspiration, coming directly from spiritual world, therefore, it is much more then mere love song...
... as are first 7 + eighth albums = ...
