I've just got mine. I have been on two BMW GS' Adventure for fun and travel for 20 years and owned a Harley Road King Classic for 11 years as well so this seemed like a far departure from what I would normally enjoy. Been on just two rides and I already love everything about it. It is taller than I expected. I am 180cm and I am far away from having my feet flat on the ground. That and my riding position almost reminds me of sitting on my GS and I know this sounds strange because this is supposed to be a scooter. The comfort of the seat is great and so is the handling of the bike. Initially you have to remind yourself that there is no clutch and foot break but that quickly fades. I LOVE the transmission and already now I do not miss shifting at all. I like riding in standard and just manually shift down before a bend if the bike does not do that in a timely fashion. It does not interfere with the mode though and stays in automatic. The sports mode is great if you want to ride a bit faster and it downshifts well. Lots to figure about but so far it is one of the best motorbikes I have ever owned. Once it's decked out with cases and all other accessories on order I will take it on longer trips to the mountains. Great job on the Review Mr. Fish and great job Honda. BTW the guy at the dealership said IOS connectivity is supposed to be available soon . Let's hope for that. Safe Riding Everyone.

Hi Thomas, I know this is 1yr after your reply to Mr Fish but I’m now considering swapping from a GSA to one of these X ADV’s
I’m just watching all the reviews at the moment and will hopefully be going on a test ride soon.
Are you still the owner of a X ADV..?
How have you found the swap from a GSA to an X ADV and have Honda sorted out the iOS connectivity yet..?
      Thanks Dan

@@danclarke9378 I've done the same swap had a 2020 for about a year don't miss the GS at all.
It's great for my commute. The DCT is flawless. It's quick of the lights.
I've just ordered a brand new one for March 23 so willnhave the TFT dash etc . Won't be going back.
Done two 2 week long tours in Europe as well. Didn't miss a beat.

@@danclarke9378, Sorry I just saw this. I am still riding the X ADV, both on frequent commutes in busy Taichung, Taiwan traffic as well as longer trips. I have the Honda cases plus Top Case and on a Round The Island trip the bike performed very well fully loaded up. It's not the fastest bike you will ever ride but it has enough power for me and enough torque. I was very skeptical of the DCT and now I don't want to ever shift through a clutch again. I ride it in "Standard" almost all the time and use the manual downshift before corners very often and automatically goes back to auto-shift which it does well and very reliably. I had to get used to the chain after riding 5 BMW's and one Harley during the last 25 years but don't have a problem with that. They do a great service here at the Honda dealership and I've only adjusted it once. I love the comfort and the handling of the bike and have not regretted the purchase once. To me it is the Best Allround bike I have owned.

I have been watching and wanting this bike for years now. I even wrote Honda a letter requesting that they import the bike to the United States! I’m convinced that if they don’t make a move soon someone like Kymco will produce a clone of the bike because there is a desire for it. They did bring in an anemic version of the X-ADV that is nothing like the 750 version. I sometimes think Honda has his head up it’s arse.

Great review! I had a blast watching you having fun with the X-ADV. Anyone can tell you the specs of a bike but at the end of the day what I want to know is "Is it fun?" and you answer the question, no doubt about that. A pity you do not have more twisty roads up there.

Brilliant review - thank you. I’m also 6ft 2. I took the forza and Xadv for a test tie yesterday abs bought the X-adv black. It just bought a huge smile to my face. I found it notes fun and more stable than the forza. Also didn’t like the wing mirrors on the Forza - felt they could get me in trouble on my 80mile daily round trip commute. I also love the potential to customise the Xadv. It drove great, looks great and was serious fun. 2 month waiting list so now got to be patient. Thank you for the review.

This is a step up compared to my current bike, the Honda Integra NC 750D of 2015. For those who have doubts about riding these bikes, please try riding them in the mountains. Works fantastic with manual gearbox shifting. I had my fun at the Stelvio Passo and many other passes in the Dolomites.

Hi, I'm currently still riding my Integra, now 55000km, still riding smoorh and no problems at all. But Covid had a big impact on my wallet, so no X ADV for me in the near future unfortunately.

This to me is the perfect marriage of a scooter, a motorcycle, and an adv bike. It's not intended to be a prefect off road bike...but then I don't want that. I want something that if I need to can go off road. A bike that can comfortably take me and my lady around the country side (even on the less traveled byways, that I'd hesitate to take on my Kawasaki Concours 14), yet is perfectly adequate on the freeway. I have the adv150, while it's a blast to ride locally and off road it's good, I can't hazard it on American freeways. I wish Honda would sell it here, I'd buy 2! One for me, and one for my fiance! EDIT: I live in the USA where this isn't sold. The nearest country where I can buy this is Columbia...then I'd have to have it shipped to Mexico...and ride it across the border. That's currently the only way you can bring this to the USA...that's sad. EDIT: "is it fun" off road, asks the man who is LAUGHING while splurging along trails. This bike ain't meant to be and Africa Twin. It's means for light of the beaten path riding.

  • @bsalvis
    @bsalvis 3 роки тому +2

If they brought this to the US I would definitely buy one. I love my adv bike but this would probably make me want to sell it and the scoot and I'd be happy. I have nothing to prove and a "scooteresque" type bike with touring and mild off-road capabilities would be perfect for my needs.

But just two days ago on my way to work, I thought, "how cool would a bike similar to the ADV150, but with a larger engine and bigger components, be?" I even contemplated writing a letter to Honda. That evening, I just happened to hop on the Honda of Japan website, and what do you know, the bike I fantasized about actually exists!!! Those overtakes within zig zag lines were definitley overtakes..but I don't know anyone who rides a bike who has never done it...and that includes myself 😉
9.52 was a single lane and an overtake of a lead vehicle within the zig zag lines
10.32 was momentry lane change within the zig zags, on a left only lane for the purpose of overtaking lead vehicles, ...as you pulled immediatly into the right hand lane .
Both were for the purpose of overtaking lead vehicles to gain position advantage....

Hi MrF, I had the last version of the X-ADV (the then upgraded 2018 version), I agree with everything you have said, as most of it also relates to the previous model. One of the things I found with mine was, because you are so well protected from the elements I constantly found myself unintentionally doing 40-50mph in 30mph limits (although the speedometer was about 10% fast compared to GPS), and I was nearly always doing 80-90mph elsewhere, but despite all of the good things with the ADV, I sold it because it was so unexciting (I think I must be suffering from the same mentality as people who need cars with a long bonnet 😉, but in my case, missing something from between the legs), hence now have Tiger 900 😎

Scooters must be a bigger thing in Europe than the US because the cool ones I have watched are only available in Europe, like the Honda X-ADV. I guess I am stuck with a "street fighter" motorcycle. The scooters here look like, well, scooters.

Great bike to test for a couple of hrs, would you buy one for the long term? It's not a great motorbike, neither a great scooter, if you are happy with an in-between then it's the bike for you. The Forza 750 is more of a scooter.

If you’re hung up on the chain, spend £80, buy a scottoiler. Never worry about the chain between services, no rusty chain, minimal stretching, which I don’t even think you’d worry about. The chain would last years.

Nice review and been waiting since the Forza. Been selling some of my old bikes (2 down, 2 to go) in favour of a “scooter”. I’m like many that would never head off road but living in the Croydon/Crystal Palace area the roads are so poor that you get the experience of off-road by default. I like the Forza but is the X-ADV better on potholed roads? Bankrupt Croydon Council are spending more on road blocks and LTN stupidity to bother fixing them so a scooter for the long term is my aim. Thanks, Ian
