  • Superb skiing on Easter Sunday so after a few warm up runs down from Cairngorm’s summit towards Loch Avon I headed towards Coire Raebert not realising the run down to Loch Avon wasn’t quite complete!

Great video and great song? Many years ago I used to ski up in the Lake District a lot. There was times when the weather was bad (often) but it would suddenly open up to reveal an untouched area of fantastic snow. Its like the mountain was rewarding you for the respect and effort you were putting in. Just the noise of your skis and nothing else...can't beat that, no clunking Poma's. They may look like hills but they behave like mountains and can be brutal and without a ski patrol, that was always in my mind. But I can say in all my years skiing in the Lake District, it gave me a feeling of unity and freedom I never got in the Alps even when off-piste.
