They came out nice. I think black would have looked better then he gray personally but they still look nice. I ended up buying gunmetal ones for my 1999 coupe because its Milano red and I wanted the JDM look. I am very happy with how mine turned out and the projectors are so much brighter then stock!
Hey mate thanks! I agree with you It's grown on me but i'm still not happy with the colour - eventually will pull the shrouds back out and do them in a colour someone had recommended (looks like ek9) I'm loving the light output that's for sure!
So often we here in America, get up grades that’s confusing and garbled. Yours…refreshing and detailed. Oh…by the way, it was a little offsetting to hear the British accent coming from a person of Asian descent as does the American accent. It just throws me off. Job well done.
The scotch pad creates scratches the surface to help promote adhesion for the paint and primer. Also, I recommend blackout and lightly mist some metallic dark grey.
The angle is intentional... It's to direct the beam down on the oncoming traffic side, up on the pavement side. If it's level, you're just blinding everyone coming the other way😂 The gunmetal grey looks sick tho
hi mate I never thought of that actually! I'm not sure if that'd look a bit too grey. Actually if i was to do this all again, i'd use a shadow chrome finish. Someone here has reached out and recommended an acrylic model paint from Tamiya.
Nice, not roadworthy, but nice. Before you order some projectors for the Landcruiser try some Philips +200% H4 headlight globes. They are A.D.R approved approved (or the packing is as it says so) and they have much greater range & brightness than standard globes but the light throw is correct, crisp & clean & no other drivers have ever challenged the low beam brightness at night. I'm a big fan of projectors & did plenty of research to see if I could get them legal on my 79 but what it boils down to is unless they were fitted as standard equipment they are not allowed & to get them engineer approved is big bucks & lots of testing.
You read my mind Dusty! I told myself i would never put projectors on the 79... but i seriously considered it after finishing this set. That is true, unfortunately would never be road legal 😔 Thanks for the recommendation i'll have a look. I actually really like the 3700k bronze look of the factory globes but was recently in the high country and i would have been stuffed if it wasn't for spotlights. Wish the factory headlight had a better output.
@@JCYT I reckon you'll be really happy with the performance of the Philips +200% H4 globes in the standard 79 reflectors. Much whiter light and you can actually see where you're going on low beam at night & high beam is much improved too.
@@JCYT I use one of those telescoping magnetic pickup tools to assist in removing & replacing the H4 globes after you remove the plug, rubber boot retaining spring as they are in a tight spot . If you like them order a spare set so you can change out a blown one as they occur.
Use oven cleaner on the chrome plating to remove it completely if you are painting the entire shroud. The paint sticks much better than over the chrome.
How do you get the high beams to function with a setup like this? That is the main thing I am confused about. Will I need a aftermarket relay or something? Thanks for the video
Hey mate Yes it is all controlled by the motocontrol harness. The harness receives high beam signal from the factory H4 connector which switches a relay to lower the cut off plate (high beam). It doesn't look difficult to make a harness from the factory loom but it was easier for me just to buy one off the shelf. Good luck with it
Hi mate Do you mean the alignment of the cut off plate so they sit in line with each other parallel to the ground? You need a dead flat concrete slab and a straight wall. Park up facing the wall and measure Draw a line parallel to the wall and essentially you will need to switch the bulbs on and rotate the projectors to the right angle 0 degrees to the ground. Good luck.
@@JCYT the way I was thinking before I take of the old ones off. I’m going to put some tape on the wall to where the old ones line up. Than going to put the new ones with the retrofit fit and manually aim them. So basically you have to do it manually? Once I’m done than I’ll seal them up??
@@antoniop5889 yeah defs that would work. Don't stress too much - you can still get some adjustment once it's all sealed up. Obviously try to get it all square before sealing.
One piece of advice. Start your paint spray pattern away from the headlight plastic and stop it away from the headlight. Will prevent any nozzle splatter!
Hey mate the shroud and lens should be a universal fit. But you will need to figure out if the whole package (projector and shroud) will fit into your housing.
Hey mate Would be the same thing across all civic ek. If you start off with factory H4 housing, you'll need a universal projector to suit a H4 housing. Check compatibility from where you purchase them from. Projectors will convert your old H4 housings to suit newer styles of globes like H1 and D2S. It really depends which projector your purchase. Hope this isn't too confusing
Thanx for the video btw.. I’m jsut trynna get a much better understanding of the clerical work before I decide to do mines.. I don’t want my dumb Mercedes to throw codes and not push power to it.
Yo yo bro, im desperately looking for a driver side window regulator + motor ASSEMBLY just like you guys in Aussie, I have a RHD civic too but trying to find a decent quality aftermarket window regulator + motor ASSEMBLY is like gold dust here in UK. Please help bro, any recommendations there in Aussie? The only option i currently have is original Honda regulator + motor which ain't cheap 😢😢
Hey Michael We do have them floating around but it'd probably be too expensive to ship to the UK. Prices are going up though... Usually sold in a full kit with the power window conversion - i've seen them going for about 600-700AUD including the harness and door trims etc.
@@JCYT Cool bro, whoa that's crazy expensive though 😂🙀. Just to confirm bro, what I'm after are window regulators with the motors as an assembly (so electric operated windows) in quality aftermarket preferably. Amayama original Honds regulators and Motors currently is my only definite compatible choice after getting 2 none compatible aftermarket brands, Dorman and Electric- Life
@@JCYT That is an idea however bro in my experience this is a high wearing part and so used regulators would most probably be on their way out. It's usually the drive teeth in the motor and the drive teeth on the regulator that break or smooth down.....
Perfect, am about to do mine, and this gives me much more confidence in attempting my retrofit!
Good luck with it!

Great video bro! I've been thinking of doing mine on Peugeot 107 for a while so hopefully given me more confidence to go for it
SUPER clean hatch! dig it! headlights came out nice too!

These look so good!! Thanks for the video, I can’t wait to do this to my Honda fit!
No problem mate!
I think this applies for other models too i know a few people who have used the vid to do EG lights.
Good luck
I heard a boosted D16 goes alright 🤗
say no more
Dude! i want to thank you for this video! so much info i was looking for! thanks!!
My pleasure mate!
wicked, this is what i needed to get the balls to do it on my k24 fit
awesome vid man, kudos. I have a question though, do you need the reflector when you install projectors?

Everyone’s lights are blinding fuck it
You are talking about the cut off plate. Yes that step up is intentional. But no the beam pattern needs to be calibrated to the horizontal.
Gunmetal has grown on me but not convinced yet haha
10x better than ebay headlights
Was definitely still tempted by eBay 😝
@@JCYT cant beat oem quality!
I need this whole series for my civic 😭 I have the same model
If you do want to upgrade it in the future, can you show how to install a switchback LED shroud?
Sure can!
It was definitely a though. But wanted to keep it relatively subtle
Nice, but why the H1 and not the much better micro D2S ?
I like the grey. It's different. But black is cleaner
Nice man!!! Im going to do the NHK in mines. Think about using those led strip headlights they got lol
Whats NHK?
I kinda wish I did the light up shrouds for the fun of it but completely unnecessary.
Good luck with it!
Can we use heat gun to remove glass
Looking awesome bro. Lets do my FD now
Hahaha yeah had some naughty thoughts about doing the RX-7 too
100% we can do mine as its not going anywhere soon, so if we stuff it i have time to fix it. 😂
Just curious. Do you wish you scuffed up the housing and the chrome piece you put around the retrofit and painted them gun metal grey?

I tried 55w ballast xenon, and then led CSP chips 3570 H1, 3 times brighter.

The paint needs something to grab onto, so that’s why you sanded it.. Wouldn’t last as long if you didn’t.
