  • Walleye on the Crankbaits are actually a pile of fun! I have been using lead-core now for two years and am having fun learning more and more about it. I am no expert but it sure seems like a great way to get those shallow baits just a little deeper :)

    Hey Clayton. Great show. Bandit has a new shallow plug called B-Rotan. Same body, different bill and rattles. Supposed to have a more aggressive action. I still like to run mine off 3 ways instead of lead core. My shallow plugs are old school shallow Thundersticks and Bomber B15.

    Just got back from a smaller lake I fish up in Northwest Ontario. Been fishing it for years and never brought my core. Brought it this year and messed around one sunny windless afternoon. Trolled this rock\bolder hump that's surrounded by mud flats. 11 passes over and around the hump, 8 fish landed 19"-27", 2 missed fish and one pass with nothing. Was using the bandit walleye deeps, 20' of 12lb big game leader a little less than 2 color. My buddy and I are like next year we will definitely spend more time doing it and setting up trolls around some of the reefs. Deadly

    Okay very serious question. I'm honestly failing to understand. Why shallow diving crankbaits on lead core as opposed to just running deep diving crankbaits? Are you putting the shallow ones deeper than the deep divers would go?

    • @ClaytonSchickOutdoors
      @ClaytonSchickOutdoors  Рік тому +7

      Good question!! They will be running about the same depth. They just run a little less aggressive angle and have a little different wobble to them. I find the shallow cranks out perform the deeper ones at the start of fall but when the water cools the deeper ones will do better :)

      Most run about 5’ of depth for every colour of line you let out while trolling at 2mph. Troll faster and it runs shallower, slower deeper. Each colour is 10 yards in length. The Sufix 832 Advanced Leadcore sinks about 8’ for every colour.

    U should compare that leadcore to some normal fishing line.. like get a J braid grand x8... 0.06mm thats 11lb line... the picture u showed was .22mm for 12lb line (leadcore)... that means the leadcore line has like over 10-15 times the thickness a normal modern fishing line has... that extra thickness will create so much more dragg in the water that the 'lead' function doesnt do anything at all.. And ur better off just using line thats like less then half the thickness... (and twice as strong). Or just use .22 jbraid and have a 42lb line on instead of a 12...
