  • A question I get asked frequently is “why would you ever want to leave California for Poland?” It’s a sincere question, I don’t blame people for asking.
Why on earth would anyone ever want to leave utopic California, for…of all places…Poland?
Well, there are many reasons. And in this video, I present some of them!

I’m Ukrainian, but studied in Poland. Last 6 years I live in USA, but I miss Poland so much.
There are definitely a lot of things which was better in Poland than US. And I know, that in last 6 years Poland changed a lot for better.
I don’t have polish language anymore on my keyboard, but I just want to say big DZIEKUJE to polish people for all the help provided to Ukraine during the war! We will never forget that.

I moved from California to Kraków Poland 8 1 /2 years ago. I love my city and the country of Poland. Everything you said is very true. I am 66 years old and live on a fixed income. I have a much better quality life here than I could in the States. I feel very safe here as well. I have come to have great respect for Poland and her people.

What is better in States then? I've never been there, but let me create my list after viewing so many films and reading the books. 1. Average house/apartment is bigger and cheaper to buy (maybe not in California though) 2. Typical car is bigger 3. Less biurocracy - most of the things you can do online or over the phone, like here in the UK 3. Variety of climate - you can go in the winter from snow in Rhode Island to the sunny Texas. 4. People are nicer, but often I find it shallow and fake. Even after having lived in the UK for the past 15 years. My main downside of living in the USA is the cost of the health service. Also, artificial food and this horrible for the most part and tasteless, spongy and lacking texture white bread.

Probably Poland is good for retirement. I spent in total 8 years in Poland, for now I live in Carlsbad, California. The day I left Poland was one of the best in my life. Sure, CA has higher crime level, but in Warsaw, "European" capital, in city center someone stole lamp from Uber-Food courier which costs only $1.25.. The theft is common thing there. Of course, they also steal from cars when you leave smth that attracts attention. So basically crime is the same in SF, LA - most dangerous cities of California. The Poles are very hypocritic people, they hate their neighbor countries - Germany, Russia, Ukraine.. Germany invested billions in this ungrateful county and Poles still hate it. I don't get it. Sure someone says the Americans are fake, probably, but I prefer American society to hypocrite, morally humiliated and arrogant poles

@@yurimolotov3355 Southern California, near the beach, was where I was born and raised. At the time, 1950s to 1970s, I thought it was the greatest place to be raised. But in 1980 I moved to the Rockies of Colorado. Later we moved to Washington state and Kentucky. Then in 2004, I moved back to So Cal to caregive for my elderly and legally blind dad until he passed away.💔 Afterwards, in 2013, I moved to Poland. With the way you feel about Poland and her people, it seems you made a good decision to leave. I understand, as I felt the same when I left Kentucky to move back to California. Ten long years in eastern Kentucky made me grateful to return to California, though when I left in 1980 I swore I would never move back. I hope life goes well for you there.

But then despite all of challenges that I had in Poland such language barrier, 50 shades of Grey wheather and so on, I kinda love living in there. I live in Kraków (it is a magnificent city) and I fell in love the atmosphere of this city. Not only city but the opportunities in tech market is another reason to stay here. Last but not the least, the cost of living is amazing when you work in IT companies. Finally, this year I started to learn Polish as I enjoy being here. A you have access to good food which is nearly impossible in the US for certain items unless you farm them yourself.

Wow, that is a very powerfull story about my eastern neighbours! Many thanks. When I was in my early twenties, the iron curtain was falling. But travelling to Eastern Europe was something we didn't do at that time, so I travelled every country in western Europe in my twenties. Now coming into an age that my (early)retirement is very close, I am already looking forward to travell much more into the Eastern countries as well. Polish people can really be very proud for what they have achieved. Next I also find it very interesting that quit a lot of US citizens are moving to Europe. That entrepeneur spirit of both US Citizens and Rebirth of Poland will definitely help Europe shine stronger in a time that there are so much challenges to be solved. Greetings from Switzerland.

Ten film to jedna z najlepszych reklam Polski, jakie widziałem. Wymieniasz same suche i przede wszystkim prawdziwe fakty, o których my Polacy często zapominamy. Powodzenia!

San Francisco is one of the most expensive cities to live in the US, so of course living in Poland will seem inexpensive. Only $600 per month for a one bedroom apartment? Tell that to Polish people who make that kind of money per month. Living in Poland is inexpensive if you come with a dollar or have a western salary, but for everyday Pole is extremely expensive. On the other hand I agree that Poland is one of the safest countries to live at, also very clean, good food, nice restaurants, buildings are very well maintained, attractive architecturally. Also in comparison with San Francisco that have the highest number of homeless people, you can hardly find any homeless people.

The huge , very modern but also with old town and old traditions City were I was born and raisd up to 19 years old.
And I must to say that it was my biggest mistake in my life.
U have to b rich to say nonsens like that .
Coz i guarantee u that if u would b regular polish middle class the difference in standard r just overwhelming.
We do not live in a houses and usually , regular polish family with 2 or 1 kid own just one car and mostly it's an older one.
That's true that Poland and especially Warsaw is changing for better very, very quickly. In just 30 years when Poland had gotten real independents it has change more then a lot. In 2008/9 I have been to UK. In Glasgow to b exact.
Already I had a feeling that Warsaw was not less modern. But Ive noticed that brits r more rich then us.
Seriously, 12 years leter Poland is almost equal to UK. For sure is richer then some of the western countries like Portugal, Greece etc.
...its all great but U can not compare Europe to Canada. And certainly u can't compare Canada to Poland. The standard of lifestyle is different like crazy. Even stupid costomer servis. This thing doesn't exist in Poland.
When Canada decided to let gey people to marry if they want? Like in 2005/6?
This is how Poland is delayed. 15- 20 yeras behind Canada. That's the reality.

It begun promissing when Polish commander, a winner if the Klushino battle, Stanisław Żółkiewski was very popular and trusted by the Muscoviens, things turned wrong when the king Zygmunt III Vasa, married to a Habsburg daughter, actually did what Habsburg told him to do, a shame and a tragedy, because had it not been for him we would be in a union living in peace in a largest and best country in the world. Even though I'm Polish, English comment might be a good addition to your vid. Living in America right now, I can tell right away that Poland is much more advanced in term of technology, infrastructure, building technology compared to United States. US was definitely the best in technology in 80's but since then other countries started to take away that status from them. We, Poles, are capable to do much more today than we were able to do back then and I can honestly say, we are able to do much more than Americans can do right now. As you said though, we're still developing since Iron Curtain stopped us from doing so earlier.
Personally, I would definitely move back to our country but since I work not in the tech industry, I can't really do that, at least for now. It is basically the same thing for many Poles at the moment, they wouldn't be able to live on the same level in Poland as they live in US. You don't see maids and construction workers driving in new Lexuses or any known German luxury cars there, living in mansions that in Poland cost fortune and go on vacation twice a year. That is the thing in US. Even though most of this stuff is financed through bank, they can afford payments on these things when in Poland most of the citizens barely make ends meet.
California on the other hand, it's really expensive state to live in. Housing is so expensive that many people live in RV's or vans parked on the side of the road, especially in San Franscisco area. Of course there are other parts of the US where living is much more affordable, like in Chicago area where I live, though it's getting more expensive to live here too every single day. Still, it's easier to accomplish your goals here than in California. Infrastructure in US is also falling apart as compared to Poland. It's no longer as beautiful as it was shown in old American movies. It basically stopped developing since then pretty much. 90's were still somewhat okay but today it's pretty much shadow of what was it back then. Yeah, you still live pretty comfortably but it's nothing compared to European countries. Roads are falling apart, buildings are in decay and need a lot of rebuilding to be back at its full glory, bridges can collapse at any moment like it happend on interstate 22 in Memphis, TN where bridge just snapped. Technologically it's also behind Poland for sure.
To summarize it all up, if you work in tech industry, don't be afraid to try living there and work there. If you're in working class, as I am myself, you might want to reconsider moving there at the moment. I just hope that one day I'll be able to move back to our beautiful country and live among our people instead of feeling eyes of Americans on me because I don't belong there by their way of thinking.

This is sad bro... where do you live in this "wonderful" US of A?
I'm guessing Chicago or California. Almost every Pole lives there.
Swoją drogą to jest niezmiernie popierd..... jaka jest segregacja w USA. Niby wielki kraj, niby wielkie możliwości (tak, jasne) a jakoś Polacy w USA głównie zasiedlają Chicago, NY albo CA. Bez sensu.

    • @MKRN98
      @MKRN98 Рік тому +1

Europa poszła do przodu, a oni zostali.

Oni to tak sobie luźno żyją a my martwimy się kartkami na mięso (if you know what I mean).

      8. Brak rozróżnienia pomiędzy życiem prywatnym / rodzinnym a pracą.

Yup exactly. If you work in IT or tech sector in general, Poland is a good option now, but people often seem to overlook that Poland still has issues with low wages etc. There are still many people who barely get through the month. There is a reason why alot of Poles living in the border regions often go to work as seasonal esparagus pickers and similar stuff.
But if people are working in IT and tech, then Poland is a very good option right now, especially since cost of living is low while wages in IT and tech are high.
