I love Polish food. Everytime I feel homesick and miss croatian food I go to my polish friend that make such a good food. It is definitely not the same food but somehow it reminds me of croatian food.
Poland is country which has a lot of regions, and each of them have their own style in cooking and it's very hard to try a lot of them just in Warsaw so next time when u visit Poland try to go to Śląsk or Kraków for example

Now when I no longer live in Poland I’m really missing all the traditional dishes. Polish Sour cabbage and cucumbers are the best the same when it comes to kielbasa, I’m still ordering it from Poland. Your film was very nice however very very brief

I don't know if Warsaw is a good place to get to know the flavors of Polish cuisine, but as soon as you had to be there, you could choose places further away from the center and the old town. In the places you show in the film, the food is made "for tourists" - expensive and very idealized
If you would try these dishes prepared by Mothers and Grandmothers in a Polish home, it would shock you. There is no comparison between the culinary skills of restaurant chefs and the culinary skills of older women in our country. Grandmas and Mothers learned how to cook tasty without many ingredients, that is a key to victory :D.

Word "placki" can mean some other dishes, we also call soft cake with that name. But those particular are "placki ziemniaczane" and won't be mistaken with something else.

mostly I research the culinary scene myself before going out and making my videos but I also have some videos where I explore some cities with a local food guides.
Next time you visit Warsaw you should definitely try "Dindleya 14" milk bar. It's a killer for all the other ones in my opinion. And I live in Warsaw for nearly 30 years. Trust a picky local. ;)
Dumplings with strawberries or blueberries, topped with whipped sour cream and sugar. 110/100 For old school ravers "lorneta i meduza". But it's really hard to find this last one. Probably in one of this REALLY OLD "milk bars" from under counter only.
You made me missing "żurek" but funny fact ( for me, born in Poland) is that you visited famous restaurant's person place Magdalena Gessler and you admitted yourself that you ate better food in other places ;-)

The Old House restaurant is the best. Fantastic tartare! And a pork chop with bone - yes 9:07 and it's the best! This restaurant belongs to the group of the famous actor Piotr Adamczyk. This is one of the best in Wars
So a few things Bar mleczny is something dating back quite a long time - they serve cheap (therefore not the highest quality) traditional food. Placki are potato pancakes, in a way similar to hashborwns. You can eat them with sour cream and sugar or salt, jams/jellies, even ketchup if you're that desperate.
You need to know that, some of polish dishes are in plural by default. "Pierogi" is plural form of "pieróg", "placki" - "placek". It you have many things on the plate, this dish propably have plural form.
We eat zapiekanka only with ketchup! In poland we prefer a sour soups like ogórkowa, kapuśniak, szczawiowa. But that are homemade dishes. Btw we eat żurek on Easter and Rosół is the best hangover cure.
As a Pole, I highly recommend Żurek, the fantastic soup, which is unique and meaty yet not too fat...Im not a soup guy, but that soup(if its well made)❤ Other dishes,exept Bigos, you can get similar around the world.

try putting Cheese cake in Żurek - its something i didn't know ppl never do until i was about 18/19yo and said to somebody i eat it like that since i was a kid,every Pole i confront about it laughs and says its disgusting...it must be just my family treat cause my grandpa was a big man eating a lot and we eat it on easter,i will also learn my children to do so,unlucky them xD
Beside my responds with recomendations for Poland and dumplings quite uniqe is that we make them sweet aswell. Somewhere i saw chinesse ppl refering to it as weird cuz they have a lot of dumplings in their culture aswell but never in sweet variant.

Poles are famous for complaining about everything, including their country. But what we have in common is the fact of appreciating delicious traditional Polish food. I highly recommend going where the locals eat. Most of the places in the center are created for tourists, where it may be tasty, but it's still not like smaller places that have a soul. There is also a list of regional products that have special certificates, and this also needs to be experienced. Polish cuisine varies greatly depending on the part of the country. In my neighborhood (Kraków) we eat significantly different dishes than at the seaside.

You got yourself in some tourist traps xD If I can recommend something try Polana Snaków and Elixir by Dom Wódki. Tatar is very traditional for us and we like to test the kitchen with it. From things you didn't try that is our staple would be: "nóżki", "śledzie", "ogórki kiszone". But many commentators are right. The best of the best is in regional capitals and not in Warsaw. There you can find great international food. Great ribs at Aruba. Oh! And "pączki" at Plac Wilsona!
Zapiekanka and pizza are two completely different things. Zapiekanka can mean casserole or open baguette sandwich. Pizza is just Pizza. Same in English and Polish.
I'd travel to Poland but i already live here, so i don't have to, and yes the food here's amazing and people should try it. also random thing but i just love laughing at people trying to pronounce Polish words, example Kiełbasa being said with an L instead of an Ł, wich for someone born in Poland can be pretty hilliarious

It always amazes me in such culinary guides that people only go to purely tourist places. I'm taught that if you want to taste a given country, go where the natives eat. "Tourist" restaurants are focused on pure customer exploitation, minimum costs, maximum price and nice presentation. You don't have to try because you don't fight for a customer who is supposed to come back to you, the customer is for one time (additionally, I usually don't know how it should taste). I'm not saying it's bad food, but the maximum you'll get there is average. The only thing that surprises me more is tourists in mc donalds.

The traditional zapiekanka is made without the tomato sauce. It is all about cheese and mushrooms so it not really like pizza

It always amazes me in such culinary guides that people only go to purely tourist places. I'm taught that if you want to taste a given country, go where the natives eat. "Tourist" restaurants are focused on pure customer exploitation, minimum costs, maximum price and nice presentation. You don't have to try because you don't fight for a customer who is supposed to come back to you, the customer is for one time (additionally, I usually don't know how it should taste). I'm not saying it's bad food, but the maximum you'll get there is average. The only thing that surprises me more is tourists in mc donalds.
