    I just received my mom’s 1701 model that they purchased March 1970. She had kept ALL the paperwork and parts together, 5e box of cams, buttonholer, assorted gizmos and screwdriver, Stich-ripper, needle-threader, you name it! The warranty was a 30 year warranty. The only thing wrong was the handle to the case had broken about ten years ago. It’s at the shop now for cleaning and maintenance. Love my green machine!

    My 1969 158 13031 Kenmore is still in good shape and at this rate it was a terrific deal when I purchased it in 1980 for about 40 sheckles. 42 years later, and it's still rocking. I don't believe I'll ever need to buy another machine.

    Just saved one of these from the trash. Its a 1701 but very similar. Took me a few hours to free it up and set the hook timing. Box of cams and operators manual with it too! Cleaned up nice. Wish I had a service manual for the technical adjustments.

      My sewing repair guy said the 158 and all the older kenmores may not be aesthetically pleasing to some but they are a great simple workhorse that will last if properly cleaned/ oiled.

    Hello thank you for the demonstration, I have this exact machine. I was truly blessed to pay only 45 dollars for it, especially after i traded in a mini singer i had paid 64 dollars for, and it is in perfect condition. So, I am having a hard time finding the manaul for the 158.16021 there is a 16020 but no 21 anywhere. I did write an email to sears I hope they come through because I am fairly new at sewing. But this was very informative I did not know how to use the feed and stretch stiches yay, no wonder it ate my stretch material ha thanks again.

    I learned to saw in Puerto Rico in home economic class. I loved it. Haven sewn in many years. I came to have the same exact machine. My friend saw the machine box or table. He would not stopped. Some hours later the machine was still by the sidewalk. She made him stop. I ended up with the machine. I worked wonderfully. The issue is that the bobbing case sits fall out and can't figured out how to replace it. Please help. Thanks.

    HI!
    Thanks for the wonderful demonstration.
    I purchased the same machine last year. I love it, but I can't wind a bobbin without the needle still engaged. You didn't explain when you did something on the right side of the machine and your mentioned disengaging the "clutch." What is it you did? Thanks!

    • @TheJudeJane
      @TheJudeJane 4 роки тому +2

      Wendy Neptun Hold the hand wheel (larger wheel on right-hand side of your machine) with your left hand. Hold it firmly so it can't move, now take your right hand as you hold the handwheel with your left hand and take your RIGHT hand and turn the smaller wheel (located on the handwheel) and turn that AWAY FROM YOU. Let go of both wheels. You have just engaged the needle so it goes up and down for sewing. Now to wind a bobbin, you want to do the opposite with that smaller wheel (the stop motion clutch). So holding the handwheel with left hand, turn the smaller wheel with your right hand TOWARD you to stop the needle from moving. And remember when you decide to sew again, you must turn that smaller wheel AWAY from you as you firmly hold the big wheel in your LEFT hand to disengage the bobbin winder! Hope this helps since you got no response to your question. Now pass this info on to another sewer and have a fine day! 😊

    • @tumorfarmer
      @tumorfarmer 6 років тому +1

      Melani Y the difference between the model numbers to the right of the decimal, is usually indicating which all cams & attachments are included with the machines. On Mother's Day, & Christmas, the machine model could be identical, but some models included only 8 to 10 stitch cams, & the basic feet, while the same machine model with a higher price, & a different number after the 4 basic model #'s could include 30 stitch cams, a monogrammer, & several extra feet & attachments.
