    I bought the same model branded for Sunbeam at the 99 cents store for 5 bucks today. Your video did a great job of explaining the stitch and how to tie it off at the end, thanks for that!

  • @CarolgTX
    @CarolgTX 3 роки тому +106

    I have been using the handy stitch for ten years. When you end your stitch, pull thread (about 3 inches) from the bobbin, then through the tension disks, then through the needle. It makes it much easier to have the extra thread at the end. Also I believe there is someone called The Seamster who gives a great youtube demonstration on how to tie off the knot. I wish he was around when I first learned!!! Any way,I really enjoy using it, especially when I travel and cannot bring my full sized machine. I have even made what I call 'in a pinch' masks with it.

    My mother purchased this years ago when my son was 6 (he's 21 now) and he ripped his pants from the groin area to his rear end😑. I didn't sew (my mom & sister did), but she gave me her hand-held sewer by Singer. I was able to stitch-up my son's pants including another pair and I was happy with the results. The only downside to the hand-held was it's not left-hand friendly but, I made it work for me😊. Thank you for sharing and look forward to seeing more of your fabulous videos!

    I want to get something to help me sew, but I don't want anything fancy, since I don't make clothes, just little stuff for my guinea pigs like pillows and beds, so nothing super complicated. And man, sewing machines are expensive! I was worried that a handheld one like this wouldn't be able to handle felt or thicker materials, but if it can do that do denim, it's good enough for a guinea pig pillow!

    Hello, nice review. I got my handheld machine, having never known about it before, from Goodwill as a used item & when I took it home to test out, the stitching was intermittent, iirc. It was missing stitches, not looping into itself consistently as a chainstitch. That might be why the machine got donated by its previous owner because it wasn't sewing correctly. I checked out some repairs on UA-cam & there's a hook mechanism inside, where the needle goes in, that sometimes goes out of alignment. So I opened the case of the machine to get to it, found the hook/catch part & bent it a bit around. After doing some tests, I managed to get a consistent chainstitch, but it's still not right, as it's not looping into itself, so the thread will unravel off the cloth if you pull on it. Being that this was a used machine, I found that the needle it came with may not be the original needle, so now I will have to go to the store to try to find one. Apparently these portable machines needs a DHX1 (or 24x1) size #14 general purpose needle. These needles are shorter than the common ones for regular sewing machines. Anyway, I'm getting close to hopefully repairing it. I found that these machines are the same machine design seen around the world as different brands. Mine happens to be a Sunbeam brand, while the one you tested is a Liumy, even though they look physically exactly the same. They are cheap & the hook mechanism is not foolproof, which can get bent out of position, so hopefully I will get mine to fully work properly soon. I will also look for a voltage adapter for it (6 volts, 600-800 milliamps) & I might have one laying around somewhere already.

    The little flat piece with the small wire protruding is for threading the needle. The one that came with mine is a threader. Yours does seem to have a hook. If it fits through the needle eye, it's also a threader. Otherwise, I don't know. Also, there is a small, metal hook/loop just behind the needle the thread also needs to go through. Happily, I've stumbled across several good machines over the years second-hand at thrift stores for less than $50. For some items that will not easily lay on a machine bed, I think this will be useful. My mom gave it to me years ago and only now, am I checking it out. Plan to use it in a car seat upholstery project. Quilting thread is stronger, but thin and will be my choice. Your choice of denim is helpful in showing its strength. Nice energy.

    Thank you so much for your video love. I actually bought one online, it's still on the way, but i was still doubtful if it really works, seeing alot other videos, it only shows how to operate and the product is usable, however looking at comments people were saying stitches comes off, i was really scared thinking money went down as the shipping fee costed me way too much for the product. Well finally i am relieved that my money didn't get wasted and i bought a good product. Well, actually this will be my first sewing machine ever so super excited 😂❤❤❤❤. Thank you so much xx ❤❤

    Hey Angelina I'm Grateful I watched your video. I'm 164cm tall so really short. Over here in Australia finding mens jeans in my size that are not skinny jeans are a nightmare so I was thinking about getting a sewing machine and wanted to start small. So I can learn how to alter bigger jeans to my size. Good to see there's some no bs tubers out there.

    I just bought one of these tonight. I am very short so have to take the hem up on nearly every pair of trousers (pants - I'm in the UK) that I buy. I have a new pair that are narrow at the ankle and I doubt my big sewing machine will handle them where this little gadget will. Not only that, saves me getting out and setting up the big machine. When I was a child back in the 1960s I had a little sewing machine - still remember it was called a Vulcan. I learned to dressmake with that until I progressed to my mother's Singer treadle. The little Vulcan also used a chain stitch. It was also battery operated. I have happy memories of the Vulcan. I'm sure this JML machine (called Magic Stitch here in the UK) will come in useful.

    Thank you are a blast and I have subscribed! I bought for convenience and my sewing machine keeps bird nesting and I can’t seem to maintain a solution. Use a serger also so this baby is going to be fun finish off some stuff that I don’t want stitch by hand. I love the look of the slip stitch, it’s going on top.
    Thanks again!

    For $50, I have purchased sewing machines from the thrift store too. It is best to find a review video first to make sure all the working parts are there. You can also "test" it in the store too.
