  • In moments of frustration and heartbreak, the last thing you may feel like doing is reading the scriptures. But the Savior said, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Matt. 11:28-29)
On a day when the cares of the world came for Conner, he answered them with The Book of Mormon, and Jesus Christ gave him rest. When we least feel like praying, that’s when we need prayer the most! When we least feel like opening the scriptures for comfort and instruction, that is exactly when we should.
You are God’s child. When you stumble and fall, when you’re pushed down and battered by circumstance, run to your Heavenly Father for comfort, healing, and instruction. He may not always remove your obstacles, but He will take your hand and help you over and through them.
Conner was blessed with a wonderful family to whom he could turn for support. If you have such a family, or if even the hope is there that yours may become such, turn to them. Give and receive love. Strengthen those bonds. There is no more effective community for the safe return of souls to heaven than the family unit. Help each other home.
If the healing support of a righteous family does not seem possible for you, don’t despair-there are people on earth and in heaven that are family unto you. You have Heavenly Parents ready to embrace and assist you. You have heavenly siblings-above, as well as here below living their lives at your shoulders each day. You can be the family others may lack in life, and they can be yours. Utilize the examples of families you admire as you work to build your own family upon this earth. Use the example of our brother Jesus Christ to build what manner of brother, sister, parent, or child you want to be.
A feeling is a reaction. When you feel sorrow, heartbreak, fear, or panic, respond thoughtfully by turning to the Lord. Read His word and speak to Him in prayer. Seek strength from family and friends who love you and share your eternal goals. Negative feelings will pass. Hard times will, too. As you pass through them, you can find consolation as Conner has-by answering your troubles with Jesus Christ, every day.
