Thank you for this lovely soul-satisfying recipe. I love Kato! A smart dog- he always sniffs his food before he eats it! My dog Sammy has the same, above the eye's markings. I call them St Francis thumb prints. St Francis is the protector of animals and the environment. So dogs with these markings (in my view!) get an extra blessing!
Thank you again- great recipe and instruction! 🕊️🕊️🕊️

I use broken rice, which comes out creamy in the IP after 30 min, no extra ten minutes of stirring over heat required. Ten minutes less of deferred gratification!
It's my comfort food especially when I'm sick, but I like pork/century egg. Not so different.
I came for the recipe and stayed for the doggo. My dog loves it when I make anything with chicken, hoping I have cartilage and skin for him!

I just made this and it turned out great. I made mine with half chicken stock half water for the liquid and used chicken thighs instead of drumsticks. Everything came out perfect just like the video. I topped mine with sesame seeds, soft boiled egg, kimchi, green onion, and carrots. Nice recipe!

Thank you so much for this easy way to make jook. My ex-husband is an ABC (American born Chinese for those that may not know what it stands for. IDK if its considered racist or not since he was the 1 who calls himself that. I don't think it is but if so just know I absolutely do not mean it that way at all. If anyone finds it offensive please tell me in a reply to this comment as I definitely wouldn't want to offend anyone) and we often would enjoy jook. He always made it so I really didn't know exactly how to do it. I've watched several different videos on how to do it and not 1 of them were the same lol. Yours looks the simplest and I'm giving it a go right now. I'm using up the left over dark meat turkey from Thanksgiving instead of chicken legs but I think it will taste, for the most part, the same. I didn't have any fresh ginger but I do have some frozen cubes of crushed ginger in the freezer so I'm using a couple of them instead. He would make the jook every year using the left over Thanksgiving turkey carcass and it became a tradition in our home. Since divorcing this year, if I want jook I need to make it myself. He did make a batch of it in 2019 and brought me a big container of it but somehow it just didn't seem quite the same. Probably because I didn't have the correct things to put on top of it. We would use chopped green onions, sesame oil, chili oil, white pepper, occasionally rehydrated dried Chinese mushrooms which I think are shiitake but I'm not positive about that and light soy sauce. I can't remember if there was something else he also prepared since those are the things I like in mine. Last year I asked him how to make jook and he did tell me but for some reason I can't recall what he told me and I don't want to keep pestering him about it so I decided to see what I could find on UA-cam. The way you're doing it seems the closest to what I do remember him telling me. Funny, after 17 years of marriage that jook would be 1 of the things I miss the most. We are still good friends, it was just that our lives were moving in different directions and divorce was the best for both of us. Again thanks so much for sharing and I will be sitting down to a nice bowl of jook this afternoon for my lunch and probably for dinner as well. I'll also be taking some of it to my daughter and her family. My 3 grandkids might like it too. I don't remember any of them trying it in the past so it will be a first for them. The oldest absolutely loves all things rice. The middle child doesn't like rice but may like this since it will be very similar in taste to her favorite, chicken and noodle soup. The youngest will eat just about anything that doesn't eat him first. 10 minutes to go now so wish me luck.

I know I already commented, but I just came back to say that I made this tonight, and we loved it! So easy and delicious, and perfect for when you're not feeling so great. Sadly, the store didn't have green onions, so we had to make do with what we had, but it was still pretty tasty!
I have to admit, I'm not a huge ginger fan for the most part. I like the flavor it imparts to meals, but eating the ginger itself always kind of put me off. But I made it as you said to get a baseline for the recipe, and...it was sooo good! I wouldn't say I'm a ginger convert, but I'll be using it every time I make this. Thanks again!

I bought the Instant Pot last week, and was pondering how to cook porridge, like how much water would i need? Your video was the first I saw and man, it was very easy to follow, and the porridge turned out very smooth and tasty. Instead of chicken, i added minced pork balls, and fried fish cake. Cooked the night before, and kept it warm for lunch the next day! This recipe is a time-safer! Next time, I'd try the chicken version that you did! :)
Just one question. Is "cold water" really necessary? Will the texture of the porridge be smoother and creamier? I used water at room temperature, and am quite happy with the result.

Do you know what the 'porridge' button does on Instant Pot? On some models it's labelled as 'Congee' instead.
When I press mine, it just sets IP to high pressure with a 20 minute timer (too short), but not sure if it does anything clever beyond that, or its just meant to be a shortcut

    • @babygrandma8654
      @babygrandma8654 3 роки тому

Mine just says porridge and I have no clue about any of the buttons on my IP. All they seem to be are what you said, shortcuts that don't seem to do anything but preset the time and temp. I do however use the yogurt button and as far as I can tell that button only let's the IP get to the correct temperature to make the yogurt since it doesn't need to be hot but rather just kept warm for an extended period of time which is 8 hours for the way I like mine. If you like yogurt and haven't made it yourself I would encourage you to give it a try. For easy directions just search UA-cam for IP yogurt. Theres a particular kind of milk to use that doesn't require you to do anything but add a couple of tablespoons of plain yogurt as a started. After you make your first batch just save a couple of tablespoons of it for the started of the next batch. It reminds me a lot of how some ppl have sourdough started in their fridge. I will take my fresh batch and put it in the fridge for a few hours to get cold then strain it through cheese cloth to remove most of the whey because I prefer mine to be very thick but this is not necessary if you don't mind your yogurt on the thinner side. I will sweeten it with honey by the bowl when ready to eat rather than sweetening the entire batch since some like it sweeter than others. I often will add fruit and occasionally some granola or muesli. This is good for any meal or snack in my house and its far less expensive and far healthier than store bought yogurt. I do hope you will give it a try. Hope you're having a nice day and God bless.

When I was growing up, my mom taught me to mix sticky rice and regular rice for better texture, and sushi rice actually already has the texture you're trying to accomplish with that old trick so it's great for congee! I'm not sure if you would have to change the water amount though.

I didn't notice you washing your hands after petting and feeding your dog

I believe this happened at a different time. I don't think she fed the dog and then went right back to cooking. I can't imagine she would let the dog lick her fingers then put her unwashed hands back in the food. Not everyone actually washes their hands on camera but YES if these events actually happened in the order presented in the video it is rather disgusting.

This comment is a bit late, but I don't think it's very hygienic to feed a dog by hand, even though it makes for cute content. It's just not the most sanitary option.

Nothing turns me off more is when they are about to cook a meal and they give the dog something to eat and then letting the dog like their finger like seriously where's the hygiene. I love animals but I'm sorry for and animal saliva don't mix
