Hi Chuck, Congrats on the first unboxing / review of the SawStop Compact Tablesaw. I picked mine up on Sept.15 and have used it for 1 1/2 days chewing through 4/4 walnut and 8/4 white oak. My thoughts….
Size and safety features were top of the list reasons for buying.
    - Good power with supplied blade ripping 8/4 white oak.
    - Disappointed as you were that the mechanism for adjusting saw height is NOT like the SawStop Jobsite Pro saw. Also lacks the top mount dust collector
    - Love the overall size and weight. Much more reasonable that the SawStop Jobsite Pro.
    - The stand looks / feels solid. Unfortunately, the stand cannot be adjusted for height or uneven ground
    - The rack & pinion fence and rack extrusions appear to be from the same supplier as Dewalt uses or used for the DWE7480 (which I have) and I think also the DWE7491
    - Disappointed that the unit won’t run unless a 10” blade is installed. I use an ultrathin 7 ¼ blade to cut a kerf around the edge of a board for resawing by hand.
    - I like that the table is 22 ½ inches from front to back, with 7 ½ inches in front of the full height blade and that the miter slots are ‘t-slot’. Better than Dewalt for sleds and jigs.
    - Overall - not the home run I was hoping for, but pretty good.

How do you feel about accuracy compared to the DWE7480? Do you feel it as powerful? What I didn't like about the DWE7480, was that the height adjustment good jammed over time and needed to be cleaned and that a lot of dust escaped sideways below the table. BTW, you can probably use the 7 1/4" blade when turning off the sawstop feature. It makes sense that the saw doesn't run with the safety feature turned on, as one could assume that he is protected while in reality he is not. The cartridge needs to be close the teeth of the blade to engage and that wouldn't be the case for a 7-1/4" blade

      @@KP-hs8lh Hi K P,
Out of the box, table flat, unlike my DWE7480 - where if the blade were 90 degrees on one side of the table it was 89.5 degrees on the other. Checked 90 on SawStop, bang on. Using a Centurian 12-900 dial indicator, miter slot to both ends of fence - perfect. Blade is 10 thou closer to the fence at the back of the blade. From what I've read, OK or ideal.
In terms of power - I didn't compare both side by side, and what I cut with the SawStop was straight grain, no knots or weird grain changes, but, at least as powerful as the Dewalt.
In terms of the height adjustment sticking on the DWE7480, I clean the slide shafts with brake cleaner, then when dry coat them in WD-40 Specialist Dry Lube (PTFE spray). Needs to be repeated periodically

Ran it today. Chucked the blade after 10 minutes. Replaced with a diablo. Much happier. Did the same on the job site saw.

I have the job site pro It took me a long time to get use to the fence. I loved the rack and pinion on the dewalt. Now I’m so use to the accuracy of thE SS and I love it

Thanks for doing this unboxing. I've wanted to try out woodworking for years now but have always been stopped by the fear of cutting off a finger lol. Ever since I heard about this compact SawStop, I have been thinking about biting the bullet and buying my first table saw. It's nice to see that it's well calibrated and accurate out of the box. Really curious to hear your thoughts about how it performs.

This would be an amazing saw for anyone, but especially someone who lacks experience. It is extremely safe.

I agree. Having used my SawStop Compact Tablesaw for about 6 hours over the past 2 days, I feel confident that I won't get cut.
But, SawStop technology doesn't eliminate all kickback. Safe work practices still need to be observed diligently

Literally bought a JSS Pro last week. Interested to see how these hold up compared to those.

Few weeks in and love it. So much lighter. Way smaller footprint in my van

Thanks for doing this video! I’ve been planning on getting a JSS Pro but was dragging my feet; I’m glad I waited because I wasn’t expecting them to release a budget option and I want to see more how this one compares to the JSS Pro. I’m only a weekend warrior and do home projects, so definitely don’t need their fancier models…but still want all my fingers 😅 I would love to hear an update with how this compares to your use/experience with JSS Pro.

Will do. Guess it’s handy that I have both haha. The blade is junk…but it’s the same on both. Happy with it so far. Ripped a ton today. The fence is honestly wayyyy better than the jobsite pro

@@topnotchfinishing that is great to know. For basically half the price, it sure seems like the most obvious downfalls of the compact saw (no dado stack ability, no top dust collection) are things I could live with, unless more comes to light as more people start buying/using this new one.

Hello , I’m new to your channel , thanks for the review on this saw . I saw on a demo that you can micro adjust the set angle with a wheel that turns on the same wheel you pull out to move the angle . Probably caught it already , just wanted to give you a heads up . Thanks again .

      Hi Anthony,
The current Dewalt models are DWE7485 - 8 1/2 inch table saw and DWE7491 - 10 inch table saw.
In my opinion, feature and sizewise, the SawStop Compact Tablesaw compares with the DWE7491. The table on the DWE7485 is significantly smaller.
If I had the room to store a DWE7491 I would have bought one. In which case upgrading to the SawStop Compact Tablesaw would be a hard to justify.
I have the DWE7480 - 10 inch saw from 2018, the predecessor to the DWE7485, The SawStop Compact Tablesaw is a meaningful upgrade for me, while still being small enough for me to store and move. Oh, and the safety upgrade - worth the price of a finger or thumb. (I know, I lost the tip of my right thumb last November through my momentary lack of attention)
