    Overall Impression
The trade-off for many contractors who recently went to cordless table saws is cordless, size, and weight vs flesh sensing protection.
There is no argument that the SawStop CTS is corded, bigger, and heavier.
You're buying this machine first for the protection it offers, and second for the quality of the tools build.
The SawStop CTS compact table saw is well built with precision fit and finish, resulting in a very smooth and easy-to-operate saw.
The biggest takeaway is that SawStop is now making a more compact job site saw for under 1,000 bucks.
Yup that’s a lot of money compared to other corded table saws out there, but you just need to talk to one contractor who has had a table saw injury claim and see what they think of that cost.

I used a SawStop cabinet grade saw during a woodworking program and loved it, but it’s way too large and expensive for a corner of my 1 car garage. I’m reliant on my hands for a living (and for living) and around $1,000 for the saw and stand is easily worth it to me to reduce the risk of a life changing injury. I do wish that SawStop would make a higher precision small table saw for those of us that are woodworkers without the room for a cabinet grade saw. Track saws are great but can be tedious when you need to make repeated rips at exactly the same width. Thanks as always for an informative review, your testing methodology is superb.

Wow, I looked into sawstops awhile back and don't have the room for a table saw and didn't necessarily think the quality of the job site travel one with the built in/fold up stand seemed worth the price. This seems like a homerun and ideal for the DIYer too who either does not have the space, or does not want to sacrifice the space for a permanent table saw fixture. I also do not know half of the measurements you were talking about, but I hope they quell the questions and skepticism from the horde of youtube comments who moonlight as NASA engineers! Well done Rob!!

Nice review... very thorough. Would have liked some more comparisons off pre-cal and post-cal vs. the DeWalt/Milwaukee. Did you check to see if the tabletop was flat as well, especially as it comes close to the blade. My DeWalt is slightly concave (like there is a notable dip in the table top material) and I had to use some bondo and sandpaper to flatten it out.

I have many fine blades from over the years. Today I counted them. I have 15 blades. I now work in a wheelchair. I owned my own shop for 25 years and ran very heavy large machines. I own a Bosch 4100XC-10 with the wheeled stand. Its been an excellent saw, but Im with Rob, for a job site saw, safety is a big deal.
However, the need for dust extraction is a bit of a deal breaker for me with this SawStop saw. Alot of times we arent using a saw for an entire day, just need to make a rip or three and put it away, or fold it up and push it out of the way. The last thing we need to have to do is drag out a vacuum outside in the dirt or inside on the floor while framing. I think it might be OK for doing some trim work where you are set up and are making multiple cuts throughout multiple days.

I can't speak specifically for this saw, but I do have the larger sobsite saw and the dust collection seems to be similar, well sealed with the brake cartridge inside the dust shroud. I've used it for hundreds of feet of ripping with no vac hooked up and the brake has worked great. I don't see how dust would disrupt any of the safety features. The brake cartridge itself is sealed. Just my experience.

It would be good to add that Sawstop recommends a 170CFM sawdust evacuator. As a beginner I took this to mean a shopvac, but the largest, most powerful (16 gallon) shopvacs were only rated at 120CFM, cubic feet per minute. They also consumed 12 amps, so look at your electrical capacity. Leave the big box store and check out Acme Tools who have dust collectors that are substantial but will surpass 170CFM easily.

if only they could start selling these in uk / eu over here. but they never do!!! so sad about that. anyhow i wanted to mention that when you fine adjusted to the vertical 90 exactly precise. then noticed that the 45 was out by 0.3 degrees... i was just reading some guys amazon reviews and while those digital inclinometers claim 0.2 degree accuracy the truth seems to be that they are much more accurate a 0 degrees. but the as you increase the angle away from level they progressively get less and less accurate. and can definately exceed that +-0.2 degrees error quite significantly. so this is actually good news for this table saw because it means the actual 45 might not be out by as much as 0.3 degree. so i though i needed to mention that.
you probably? could test and better calibrate the 45 reading of your same digital inclinometer (restroactively) simply by constructing a huge size 45 degree slope out of some materials. and then measuring accurately the length of the sides when you make the slope to a high enough presicion to then be certain it is within 0.01 degree. then put your digital inclinometer onto your known 45.01 degree slope and check the reading. and the hope is that it may be consistently out by an increasing amount the further away you go from perpendicular. and in a way that the error is consistent the same direction / same sense

for that price it needs better build quality than the larger jobsite saw you reviewed, if my memory is correct the table wasnt that flat and it had other issues. would be interesting to see your review of the new compact festool, seems ridiculously overpriced for something with such a small capacity, and doesnt feature the sawstop tech.

Great review. However, when comparing it with the Dewalt 7491, as far as I can tell the only advantage is the AIM. Not recommended to use a 1/8" blade, no rolling stand, only 24" cut to right of blade, doesn't use dado!

Ive wondered this as well, but I figure we would have heard about it from one of the many woodworking youtube channels that have tested their sawstops by activating the cartridge. It appears as though the whole trunnion and motor assembly cams down on a pivot to absorb this energy, so I feel like they have probably accounted for this. It would be a huge reason not to buy if a single activation ruined the entire saw...

I strongly dislike Sawstop's profiteering. When I researched table saws for work around my house, the best fit for me technically was the "contractor saw" at $2,000. A comparable Delta is $899. So while I am trying to decide if I have the space and money for the contractor saw, my wife is looking at a vacuum cleaner, some German thing cost $849 and that is the small one. My hands are intact and I have no table saw at all. Maybe a router will do some of what I want.

At 8:03 can you prove the saw will bevel past 45°, say 46-47° & return to 90° or 0° bevel on the scale? My saw won't do it, After speaking with tech services the bevel range is 0°-45°. I was unaware of this when I purchased the saw. Bevel range was not listed on SawStops website under specs or anywhere in the manual. This saw is basically useless for building mitered box beams.
Regardless the saw fell apart within 5 months of use.
I can say without a doubt this is the worst table saw I have owned in 25 years. Great technology, but the saw itself is garbage.
I'm willing to bet a long term review of actual daily field use will produce similar results.
There should be a picture of this saw in the dictionary under the word "rip-off".
Now.. what table saw should I buy next?? It's gotta be mobile moderately quiet, powerful & have good dust control?
Notice I said moderately quiet.. This eliminates DeWalt & Ridgid!!

I hate these table saws for having the safety mechanism. It would be nice if you could disable the safety indefinitely, instead of before each use.
You have to respect the fact that table saws, like any saw, are potentially dangerous. I have been a finish carpenter for 25+ years and have only been on one job with a SawStop table saw and have never once heard of any accidents.
