Good job. Now I have to do mine.
👍 Thanks for watching!
When the subject turned away for the dendrobium had to go.
Thanks for watching.
Please tell your watering routine after potting? I think I may have killed a couple by over watering in my house in the winter when it is dryer with the furnace running.
What you described can actually happen in an environment with dry heat and a pot that is too wet. It may be possible to improve your winter growing conditions indoors by adding a cool mist humidifier near the plants and watering less.
I love the paper clip! What a great idea! I’m also hoping some aerial roots will pot up.
Thanks ☺️! Happy you found a new orchid hack!
I recently purchased dendrobium albosanguenem. Is it callista type? Does its leaves fall off during winter?
No, your species orchid is from the section Dendrobium (a little confusing because the name is the same as the genus name). These are the soft cane Dendrobiums. Read more here: www.aos.org/explore-orchids/dendrobium-alliance/den-sec-dendrobium
@TheOrchidHut Thanks a lot
Look forward to seeing how it recovers
Me, too!🤞
Nice video on orchid prep. How long do you keep your grow lights on each day?
Thanks for watching! 14 hours during the growing season, 12 hours in the winter.
Hi new friends Thanks for sharing this video Beautiful Grammatophyllum Orchids
Thanks for watching!
How do you get them out of those tiny pots with all the roots coming out? I just got some like that and the roots are really coming out of those pots and wrapping around, and I'm worried that if I try to tease them out they'll have lots of damage. It's so dry here (winter, Montreal) that I just can't imagine them doing well in those tiny pots with no media.
Gently pull, may be a little damage… For your climate, which I’m imagining is dry, it will be important to mist the roots daily. The natural habitat for these orchids is tropical with a lot of humidity.
@@TheOrchidHut Awesome, thank you! Yes, so dry here, which is why I want to repot them with some media.
Just found your videos, perfect timing, thinking of going back to orchids!!!.!must admit never heard of inserting aerial roots back in the soil?
Thanks for watching - best wishes on your new orchid adventures!
I do hope that the Dads are coping and you too. Take care and many thanks for your lovely videos.
Thank you for watching!
When dividing is multiplying. 😃 I hope they all make it.
Eh, they probably won’t all make it…but I feel a little better at least giving them a chance. The whole thing is on life support at the moment!
@@TheOrchidHut 👩⚕🙏
Very nice recovery. I like your pottery, it’s pretty. 👏🌸
Thank you! 😊
They look so lovely in that pot!
Yes! Love those Talavera pots!
I'm having one heck of a time wrapping the aerial roots. They are breaking off. Help please.
Soak them first? If they are more pliable they won’t break, theoretically.
@TheOrchidHut Thank you for your help.
There is another twisting trick to use depending on the roots, but I’ll have to show it in a video someday because it is difficult to describe in words.
What a difficult year it’s been for you. Prayers for strength and peace.
Thank you 🙏.
I’m sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. My mom had Parkinson’s. It’s a long and difficult journey.
Yes, ma’am. Only another caregiver of someone with PD could even begin to understand ‘the journey.’ I was my dad’s primary caregiver for the last 8 years.
@TheOrchidHut Bless you for being there for your Dad!❤❤❤ I lived 500 miles from my Mom, but two of my brothers were close. I periodically traveled there and took over caretaking to give my brothers a break.
Great video. You have answered all my questions, Thank you
Awesome - thanks for watching! 😎
Hahahahah your cat sounds like my mother??
🤷♀️🧐😂😂😂 Thanks for watching!
@@TheOrchidHut I have a hearing aid and a cochlear implant, but she still talks to me from another room. So what I hear pretty much sounds like your cat. 🤣
Oh!
I am sorry for your loss about your dad.
Thank you. 🙏
So sorry for your loss.
Thank you. 🙏
Oh, Dana, I am so sorry for your loss.💔 Sending prayers and my deepest sympathy for you and your family.🙏
Thank you. 🙏
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Thank you. 🙏
Great video as always, thanks
Thanks so much for watching!
I have 3 that are just screaming at me! I'd love to put them in a glass jar!
Sounds like a project! Thanks for watching!
I’ve just caught up watching your videos. I have 2 Catt.Copper Queens. One has flowered a normal flower but the other one is still too young. Both grow roots with the new bulb so seem to be a different to yours. However, still love it for all it’s quirkiness I think!
Quirky is a good description - thanks for watching!!
Just discovered your video. Loving it. Subscribed already. I am waiting for my Sweety Cat to arrive from Northern Illinois store. Very happy to find your video. Thank you. One thing , should I repot during the Chicago winter or wait till spring? How is your Sweety Cat doing in bark?
Thanks for watching and subscribing! In your climate (even indoors) I think I’d wait until spring to repot, unless…the media the orchid arrives in is very old already.
@@TheOrchidHut Thank you
Recently added a couple of Wilsonaras to my collection. Your video was very helpful. Thanks!
Thanks so much for watching. I haven’t been successful getting my to bloom in my care…yet!
may I ask where do you purchase dendrobiums?
I have purchased mine locally in the Houston area or sometimes online: Brookside, Hausermann, Jewell. When purchasing online consider the current weather (too hot/cold) and shipping distance to get the best chance of orchids arriving in good condition.
Great video. Thanks so much
Thanks for watching!
Where did you find the clay pot, very unique
I’m able to find those locally at nurseries in the Houston area.
Where do you purchase your pots from
Usually from RePotMe.com
Great info! This relieved some of my hesitant plant mom guilt after I was recently gifted with an orchid that was crammed into a 4" pot without air holes. I only bought a 6" one with the air holes and thought I hadn't bought one big enough. Nope, we're good here. Thanks so much!
YW - thanks for watching!
I really wish we could get bag babies here, but orchid growers are pretty scarce in rural Nebraska so I would just have to buy all of them. 😅
🧐🤗😂
Does lava rock medium require daily watering?
It might, but depends on the orchid and how dry your climate is.
I kept advancing and skimming through this video - the information could have been conveyed in half the time...
Possibly, but part of the learning is visual, not just auditory. People assimilate information in different ways.
Your videos quit coming up for me for a while so I searched for you. Now I get to binge watch your last four.😊
That makes me feel really popular, thanks! 🤗 If you click the notification bell 🔔 I think it will let you know when I post something new. But binge watching is good, too!
Can I ask you where you buy your wooden baskets? I have a couple that I bought a long time ago for my Orchids. Now I am looking to buy one for another hangling plant I have. Amazon has the baskets, but no hangers come with them, which I think is strange. Another seller has 3 baskets in different sizes with hangers, but I don't want to spend allot for three when I need one. Thank you.
I've never had just one source for these. I have ordered them from RePotMe and Amazon but have also found them at local nurseries in my area. I know what you mean not having to buy more than you need. They can be pricey depending on where you look, as well.
@@TheOrchidHut Thank you for your response 🥰
Is it scented? Very beautiful and compact.
Unfortunately, no scent. Thank you for watching!
Be interesting to watch this one grow.
Yes…although I’m a little concerned about getting water in the leaf joints over winter. I think that is what led to the demise of a similar orchid I had. Ahhh, the challenge of orchid growing!!
Well, this one should be interesting. It's been a long time since I have seen bag babies in Knoxville. And that's probably a good thing. 😂
It means you would just have more orchids in your collection. How can that be bad? 😂
@@TheOrchidHut 😂😂😂
Hi Dana. I watched this video at least three times because I wanted to see how you managed to get all those roots into the pot but I noticed that you cut that part out. I've watched one of your previous videos showing how you went about this but when I've tried I always seem to crack the velamen, even after wetting the roots. Are there any tricks or tips I'm missing?
That’s the trouble with YT ‘short’ videos. They can only be 1 minute long so parts get cut out. Yes, there a couple of tricks. I’ll film it next time I have one with such roots. It involves very soaked roots and twisting the pot. YT will be allowing 3 minute short videos soon, so a little more content can be squeezed in!
@@TheOrchidHut I look forward to some longer shorts.
Thank you for the informative video! I'm doing research about cattleya type of orchid, but I want smaller size as I dont have big space 🙃 i wonder if you have video about these potinara now?
No newer video on these, and some have exited my collection. I have found the smaller ones more difficult to grow…not sure why.
