Hi, I just found your channel. When you mentioned you don't water your newly potted cattleya orchid it made sense to me. I have repotted orchids and watered only to find the roots die. I have always wondered why. I live in Miami and grow my orchids outside. Thanks for that tip, I will repot and not water right away. I think I will have more success.
Hi there. Thank you. Looks good so far. Liquid kelp is not part of my weekly routine. I only use it in low doses during times of potential stress to the plants like times of the year that pests are more prevalent and before cold snaps. Because the plants I use this strategy with are mature cattleyas, I have never had any trouble with poor root growth. The roots usually take off within just a couple weeks as long as it is the right part of the plant’s growth cycle. I just got sick of potting and then loosing all the roots and repotting a couple months later to clean up the dead roots. I just noticed that when I wait on the watering the roots don’t die on me 🤷🏼♀️
Hi! Thank you for your question. I get most of my supplies from Green Barn Orchid Supply. The lava rock I used in this video came from one of my local hardware stores. I think it was Home Depot. You can get different types of rocks in big bags. Just be sure to rinse really well before using the rocks because they have a lot of dust in the bags.
