Just checking that you're aware that the lead singer, Jeff Lynn, was a 'Travelling Wilbury',also sang the high parts on the Tom Petty,Prince et Al on the George Harrison tribute 'while my guitar gently weeps'!He is a very quiet genius.
E L O & Jeff Lynne are artistry masters!! You'll enjoy your ELO voyage, Evil Women, Don't Bring Me Down, Livin' Thing, Sweet Takin' Women, Rock 'n' Roll is King.
I was at a friend's house back in 1976 and he put a new record on the turntable. It was such an experience that I had to stop at a record store on my home and buy "A New World Record" for myself.
*One of the happiest songs ever written* I always imagined this song being written on the first sunny spring day after a long cold winter. ELO just blows me away with the sheer talent and musicianship that they display with every song they release....PURE TALENT!!!! ✌Peace✌
This song brought me to tears in concert in 2019 because it was so beautiful ( maybe it was the rum)!! ELO is touring one last time this year so if you get the chance to see them live, do it !!! They are epic !!
This song was part of a 4 song suite which is why the song shifted tempo at the end. The entire suite from the Out Of The Blue album is a masterpiece going from darkened thunderstorms (Standin In the Rain) to glorious sunshine (Mr. Blue Sky). It takes up all of side three of the LP.
🌳🌳🌈🌝....... yepp , this song got voted the "happiest" song of all time !! Love , love , love 💜 E. L. ((( Eeeeeee ---- Elllllllllll - Ooooooooo )))
They are still touring by the way. I'm seeing them this fall in Minneapolis. They were the first concert I ever saw in 1976 so seeing them next year is going to be like going back in a time for me.
Whenever I want to get in a good mood ELO is the answer. Their music has been with me since the late 70's and their music will always be a part of my life. Their catalog is deep.
Well said, indeed! Such a variety to choose from. So much to admire. From ELO's " majestically stellar and poignant "Mission" to the brief flare of castanets in "The way life's meant to be". Good stuff :)
This song is the last of a four part piece called 'Concerto for a Rainy Day.' Jeff wrote this after two straight weeks of rain while he was on vacation, and the concerto is a roller coaster of emotion ... the last, a celebration of the sun finally shining.
Jeff Lynne - the genius behind so many good tracks - and influential in so many groups. From The Move, through ELO to the Travelling Wilburys - he was also the vocalist on the tribute performance of 'While my Guitar gently weeps' with Prince...........
You have found one of the best "happy songs" ever written. - Jeff Lynne (the singer & guitarist) wrote this while taking a working holiday in Switzerland where it had been raining for two weeks straight. He had writer's block and had to start writing for the next album. One day, the sun came out...and he wrote this and a few other songs in a burst of creativity, - The voice on the vocoder, and you missed the last part with it, was keyboardist Richard Tandy, who unfortunately just passed within the past two weeks. At the very end, you hear him say "Please turn me over." as this was the final song on the third side of a two-album set. - There are many great live versions of this song, my favorite was filmed in Hyde Park for the BBC in 2014.
E.L O. JEff Lynn later was in the Traveling Wilberries as well. He's the Frizzy hair guy with the sun glasses as well as the tribute version of My Guitar gently weeps that all the mega stars were in as well. E.L.O. is in my top 5 bands ever. So many good songs to get through. All of them fantastic.
I will be there also at the United Center. Saw them there in August of 2019 at the UC. Absolutely fantastic. I bought the Mr. Blue Sky VIP Package as well, for this concert.
Jeff Lynne (who comes from my home City of Birmingham, UK) is a fantastic musician and producer. E.L.O. have loads of great songs and my favourite is 'All Over The World' which is also a happy song. They sound just as good live as they do on the studio versions and he was still performing just before the pandemic at the age of 70. Jeff was also in the 'Travelling Wilburys' alongside George Harrison (The Beatles), Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan.
Yeah, that's how these guys do. Their whole catalog is full of these sounds you're digging. Showdown, Fire on High, Waterfall, Do Ya, Hold on Tight, you'll love them all! And if you really need more of those atmospheric orchestral sounds, Moody Blues is where you want to be.
I really like watching bright young people (extremely bright in this case!) enjoy things that I just about remember experiencing when I was a young child. It's strangely affirming - and joyful :) Thanks!
One of *those* songs that are just magical. No word of a lie, this is one of my emotional touchstones when depression is creeping around the fringes of my mind and I need to be told in no uncertain terms that life is worth living. And in an odd counterpoint it also brings tears to my eyes because it reminds me of how my wife made me feel. Yes, I am one of those rare lucky fellows who married the perfect woman for him but also one of the most unfortunate because she was taken from me (by cancer) when we were only half-way done with life together. It's one of the mysteries of music that ELO are not more renowned than they are nowadays. Such wonderful music - so good that even Metal Heads like me love them. "Out of the Blue" is one of the greatest double albums ever made.
I was born in 1984 and for a reason that I can’t even imagine whenever this ever came out it was in my bedroom and I looked at future. I didn’t even listen to the album. The album was enough..
Albums where every song is wonderful are a fantastic discovery but this one, Out of the Blue, was a double record album, so it was an instant gem in my collection!
Loved your reaction but why miss the beautiful last few notes where they, actually, say "Mr,Blue Sky" electronically as a wonderful ending? They even say "Turn Me Over". ALWAYS play a tape to the very end. lol
Also, I believe this version is sligjtly shortened compared to the album version. A damn shame that it is always this version reactors find for doing their reactions. :-(
Hey there Britt - you pronounced it correctly, the three letters, E than L than O! Thanks to the wonderful work you do on this channel and all the sunshine and light you bring to so many I hereby christen you Mrs. Blue Sky!! They have plenty of great songs, but one day you need to react to their live cover of the Chuck Berry classic "Roll Over Beethoven"!! It's been covered by plenty of artists, including The Beatles, but no one does it better than Jeff Lynne and ELO!!
Only underrated by those who have never heard them. Once you hear them, your face hurts from smiling. Back then I had the vinyl on the turntable on auto-repeat with Out of the Blue.
Jeff is such a great musician he writes and produces songs for ELO plus others Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Tom Petty, TRAVELING WILBURYS, and the Beatles this guy is defiantly worth looking into so underrated
Yes you would love Telephone Line. Such a beautiful song. Also check out Tightrope, Can’t Get It Out Of Ly Head, but also include the El Dorado (overture), they go right into each other. They have plenty more. Also from this album, Sweet Is The Night.
'Mr. Blue Sky' is part of a 4-piece creation called "Concerto for a rainy day", which is indeed a masterpiece. It is taken from their 1977 huge success double album "Out of the Blue", insanely recommended.
This is the final song of a 4 song medley called Concerto For A Rainy Day which fills up side 3 of ELO’s 1977 masterpiece album called Out Of the Blue. The slow final melody of the song is a reprise of the melody that is the transition between the first and second songs of the medley. Yes there is a lot happening in the song. A lot of ELO’s songs are like that. The ELO rabbit hole is deep.
"Mr. Blue Sky" was the last track on the third side of the double album "Out Of The Blue". If you listen to the song for a few seconds longer, you will hear the request to switch to the fourth side of the double album: "Please turn me over". Spoken over a vocoder by the band's keyboardist, the late Richard Tandy. He died on May 1, 2024.
Birmingham's finest - Jeff Lynne is a genius level multi instrumentalist. He was in another Birmingham band called The Move with another genius level multi instrumentalist called Roy Wood who are well worth a listen. Roy Wood was also involved with ELO in the early days before he moved on to form Wizzard who are also well worth a listen.
Roy formed The Electric Light Orchestra whilst still with the Move. He persuaded Jeff to join them, even though Jeff was more involved with his own band at the time and wasn't interested at first. After finding out Roy's vision for the band, incorporating a String section which was a sound that a few of the big bands had toyed with (Beatles etc), Jeff was persuaded to join. Because of Roy's long time involvement with the Move, he already had a solid Record deal for his new band. Jeff wrote most of the tracks for the first Album, but the Music Press mostly ignored Jeff in favour of Roy. Roy didn't like that and decided the only thing he could do was to leave the Band, leaving it to be fronted by Jeff. It became Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra and later just ELO, though sometimes still known as Jeff Lynne's ELO. Roy's influence can still be heard in the early tracks, especially from the first Album - Try 10358 Overture, Lyrics credited to Lynne, Produced by Wood, released by Roy WoodMusic.
I'm in my upper 50s and back in the 70s when I was getting into music E L O was my favorite band. They were just very different from everything else on the radio. Last train to London is one of my favorites of theirs.
ELO was one of many bands who I saw in concert, courtesy of a friend. I saw them perform in Hammond (Griffith) Indiana, outdoor amphitheater. It was the summer of my sophomore year. If you know the 70s, you know. There was an elderly couple, 60s, in front of us trying to get high but were taken advantage of & purchased worthless homegrown. I gave them a couple of Jamaican blunts laced with Tai stick. Within a couple of hits they were re-enacting their honeymoon night carrying on like lovebirds. They thanked me for making their night. 😎 P.S. I'm still waiting for When Will I See You Again. 😇
If you listen to it 5 more times listen ALL the way to the end. Ee El Oh. Also, one of their songs that never gets a mention is The Diary of Horace Wimp. A nice little story with a twist at the end.
Saw them live twice when they did the Out of the Blue Tour, first time I had witnessed electric violin and cello, and the laser show just Blew me Away, Jeff Lynne is so talented and has been instrumental in a lot of other peoples albums, The Beatles, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty to name a few. 🤘
The lead singer and writer of their songs is doing a final tour of the US this year. You might want to try and grab yourself a ticket as the live shows are incredible. Somehow they are able to sound as good live as on the record.
It is E. L. O. and Jeff Lynne (the lead singer and songwriter) is an absolute musical genius. The band is still performing and his voice is still able to hit all those notes, possibly even better than before.
Yeah, this is the theme song in guardians of the Galaxy 1, and I believe it's in 2 also. E.L.O stands for electric light orchestra.. legendary band, in my opinion. Thanks for bringing the sunshine out for us all today!
This the first time I have ever seen this channel and boy am I glad I did. Britt absolutely nails the analysis and is spot on in her comments. So much so, that it brought a tear to my eye. An absolutely fantastic 1st time reaction, very impressive. Thank you very much.
Thanks for doing this one Britt. They are still my favourite band, preffering their earlier stuff. You were right to point out how it has so much going on. I try to follow just one instrument when I listen, then play it again following a different instrument. Side 3 of this album (with this song) is amazing. 1. "Standin' in the Rain", 4:20 · 2. "Big Wheels", 5:10 · 3. "Summer and Lightning", 4:13 · 4. "Mr. Blue Sky", 5:05
Brit you missed the end bit. I bought this album when it came out, loved all their songs. So many layers to all their stuff. Jeff Lynn is a true musical genius. Loved your reaction, your face said it all .
Elo was in the Alps for inspiration , but it was cloudy everyday and they could not come up with a song , then suddenly the sky turned blue and sunny and boom , they wrote this song.
Electric Light Orchestra. The first band I ever got into way back in the early 70s. Now I have all the albums and a few rare stuff. Even now, after years and years of hearing this band, my love for their music is still strong. I love the original line up but, Jeff Lynne's new line up do a very good job. Especially live. You can't go wrong with Jeff Lynne and E.L.O. There's only one album I found that was poor, and that was balance of power. But even that album is worth listening to.
Oh Britt, you're gonna love ELO, they are such a fantastic group that has a library of amazing music. Jeff Lynne is a master at arrangements, you'll realize this quickly. This song was in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol II" within a terrific soundtrack. ELO takes you on a trip every time both musically & lyrically. Bring us more! 🤟😎 (OH, & Jeff has worked with the Who's Who in music btw, including being a part of the greatest supergroup ever, "The Traveling Wilburys" ...give them a listen too!!) Love from GA! 😊
Jeff Lynne the man singing is a music genius. In 1988 he went on to collaborate with the Bob Dylan, George Harrison (of the Beatles fame), Tom Petty along with Roy Orbison to form The Traveling Wilburys. Check out the song "Handle With Care." ELO is a super deep rabbit hole for you to go down. I suggest "Sweet Talking Woman" or "Don't Bring Me Down"
You know, as an old man 🤨 (it is eeeee-el-oooooo BTW 😁) it hasn't escaped my attention that most modern things are less futuristic than the old things back in the 50s, 60s and 70s! When did we stop looking forward and started bogging down in the far past? 🤨😢😢 Also, now with computers we have the availability of "infinite levels", and yet most tracks are samples or copies of other successful tracks. There is no creativity anymore.: imagine the idea of good composition instead of good production. I loved Hip-Hop in the 1980s, but now....🤷♀ Of course, my old man miserable cynicism then meets the odd "young person" 😁 who has a brain and taste. Watching you repeat "hay hey hay" was lovely because it is the kind of stupid thing I do. 😃 Loving the intricate little things in the song.....wonderful. I hope more youngsters who love real musical talent and ability (that are deffo out there right NOW), start making their voices heard. Maybe then we will get back to some decent music in the charts....or at least a chart where we can find some decent music!ua-cam.com/users/sgaming/emoji/7ff574f2/emoji_u1f60b.png
Jeff Lynne is master composer/producer/ musician....etc. someone already suggested, but telephone line (live at wembley) livin' thing (live at wembley)
The happiest song in the world. You hit a deep rabbit hole with this group. So many great songs
Rabbit hole indeed.!!!
Yes! It's the perfect song.
I was thinking rabbit hole, but you said it for me.
So glad you liked them, try Telephone line, or Don't Bring Me Down, or Evil Woman, so many... And it's E L O
And Turn to Stone! Great tunes from a time where there was just so much great music. Now the best we get is Taylor Swift...
EE EL OH

Rockaria is a must

An absolute MUST HEAR Classic,, Electric Light Orchestra "Tightrope"..TRUST ME on this one my music lovin' sister!! 🔥❤🔥
Tightrope! Definitely.
Tightrope! FTW, especially with the shimmering gong intro :)
This entire album is 🔥🔥🔥 and should be listened to in its entirety to get the full effect of the message ELO was trying to convey.
Agreed - my sister got this album (she's 5 years older) and I ended up wearing the record out.
Yes😊.....
ELO come from Birmingham UK about 20 minutes drive from me. Brilliant and one of the best groups to come out of the UK. Jeff Lynne is a total legend.
I was at a friend's house back in 1976 and he put a new record on the turntable. It was such an experience that I had to stop at a record store on my home and buy "A New World Record" for myself.
It is impossible to hear this song and not smile. ELO is a rabbit hole I've hoped you would go down since you started.
The best 70's fusion of classical music , disco, Rock all rolled up into one. A rabbit hole worth going down !
Telephone Line; Last Train to London; Livin' Thing; All Over the World... this UK band give you deep joy every listen ❤
_Long Black Road_
Try ELO's, "Can't Get it Out of My Head," and "Rockaria." Both brilliant - both completely different. Elo and Jeff Lynne - a massive rabbit hole.
*One of the happiest songs ever written*

Jeff Lynne's E-L-O is a masterclass in musical mastery.

That computer voice felt like the future talking when we heard it as kids in 1977 🤖
Brit you missed the end bit.
Thank you for sharing ... I was lucky to see them live a few years ago and they produced the same sound... I WAS in a BLUE SKY
ELO's "Living Thing" would be a swinging, bobbing, melodic, and fun next song. Please. Ty for reactions!
Yes. Maybe listen to it until the end.
I suggest "Sweet Talking Woman" or "Don't Bring Me Down"
I couldn’t stop smiling!
....& your lovely smile says it all, it's what ELO does❤
All this performance needed was Britt on stage reacting in realtime.
You ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO see ELO doing Roll Over Beethoven live on the Midnight Special!!! ua-cam.com/video/2t5snPAPi64/v-deo.htmlsi=-FRcABrZVS1_fRBc
If you’re ever having a down day, this is the song to play. Impossible to be sad while listening to it!! ❤
What is most interesting is the energy of the band. Reminds me of the energy and the vocals of Queen.
ELO was great, Jeff Lynn is great, and the Traveling Wilburys, were OUTSTANDING!... and yeah you missed the ending.
The great Bebop tune for driving
❤Love your reaction to E.L.O. 😊My 2nd favorite band in my teen years. I saw them in concert in 1982 and it was spectacular. Big light show!! ✨✨
So cool!
This song was used brilliantly in the opening sequence of "Guardians of the Galaxy 2". Happy music to fight a monster with.
They had a great Light show that went along with their music
I’ve always loved this song, such a happy feel good song
You know, as an old man 🤨 (it is eeeee-el-oooooo BTW 😁) it hasn't escaped my attention that most modern things are less futuristic than the old things back in the 50s, 60s and 70s!
When did we stop looking forward and started bogging down in the far past? 🤨😢😢
Also, now with computers we have the availability of "infinite levels", and yet most tracks are samples or copies of other successful tracks. There is no creativity anymore.: imagine the idea of good composition instead of good production.
I loved Hip-Hop in the 1980s, but now....🤷♀
Of course, my old man miserable cynicism then meets the odd "young person" 😁 who has a brain and taste.
You heard it at the start of Guardians 2. Groot was listening.
Jeff Lynne is master composer/producer/ musician....etc. someone already suggested, but telephone line (live at wembley) livin' thing (live at wembley)
