and Jeff Lynne went on to be producer on the post break up Beatles singles, Real Love, Free as a Bird, and Now and Then (sort of), completing the circle. He also worked heavily with George Harrison on his latter material and both were members of the super group the Travelling Wilburys. Having worked with the surviving Beatles on the singles he then worked heavily on Paul McCartney's album serving as producer and performing on many of the tracks; Ringo was also drummer on the album. (and it contains as far as I'm aware the only McCartney-Starr credited song).
Jeff wrote this after sitting in his flat in the UK for 4 days and then the sun burst out. It gave him inspiration for the song and within 20 minutes, he had it! That part were 'Mr. Blue Sky' was created was by a synthesizer. And there was no 'autotune' back in the day.
It’s a Vocoder. Vocoder. The vocoder was originally designed to aid in the transmission of voices over telephony systems. In musical applications the original sounds, either from vocals or from other sources such as instruments, are used and fed into a system of filters and noise generators.
@@jeffjones6221 I thought the talk box was for voice like Peter Frampton does in Do You Feel Like I Feel, he used a tube in his mouth that went to the box.
@joyreno1034 it is...that's why I said a vocoder is to synthesizer as a talk box is to guitar. The keyboard player uses a mic to feed their voice into a vocoder vs a tube for guitar, but both allow the "instramanazation" (new word🤣🤣🤣) of your voice. I recall in 82 or 83 the circuit band I ran sound for got one for our keyboard player.

The opening music to Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 when they're fighting the big monster and Baby Groot is dancing and chasing whatever that creature is, lol. Great song!! Jeff Lynne is just an awesome singer. This song usually pops into my head the first day we have sunshine and clear blue skies after it's been raining for days. A lot of great songs from ELO, their biggest hit in the USA is Don't Bring Me Down, a staple on classic rock and retro radio. Evil Woman and Telephone Line are a couple other hits from them. I have around a half dozen of their songs on my favorite mix playlist.
Just so you know.. The vapor trails in the sky from airliners are just like the vapor that comes out of the exhaust pipe on your car when you start it up in the morning.. Hot air hitting cold air creates the water vapors that you see.. And, up there at 34,000 feet high, it's much colder than on the ground so the vapor stays visible for longer periods of time when it comes from the back of the jet engines..
The band is/was from the UK, though funnily enough Jeff Lynne wrote this song when he was in Switzerland. After a period of bad weather, the sun came out and everyone's mood lifted. That inspired him. Though it is often grim with rainy skies in the UK and where E.L.O. came from, Birmingham England! (Also the same region where some other great bands came from - Black Sabbath, half of Led Zeppelin, and Slade who you are yet to get into, the biggest selling band in the UK in the 1970s) Great band. Hey BP, We lost another great guitarist today. Dickey Betts is considered another great guitarist and was a member of Allman Brothers. You might want to check out the UA-cam of Guitar Greats-Jessica - Dickey Betts from 11/12/1984. His guitar solo is great!
Noooooooooooooooo!!
Traveling Willburies!
Amazing with Lynn and othet Greats!
(Also the same region where some other great bands came from - Black Sabbath, half of Led Zeppelin, and Slade who you are yet to get into, the biggest selling band in the UK in the 1970s)
Great band. I first heard E.L.O. around 1975. I bought the album this song was on in 1978 aged 15, and saw the band live in 1981. So many hits, so many bangers!
ELO is happy music... Jeff Lynne is the only person I know of that combined Rock, Opera, Classical music, Disco, and pop... Very very cool music.... so many hits... Don't bring me down is one of my favorites... but there are so many... Great reaction. Thank you. 😊
