While I want to agree with you from an emotional standpoint, we also need to acknowledge that all this stuff contributed significantly to the radioactive, degenerate toxicity of GW2's PvP scene. People nowadays tend to think that it's just a case of low player pools and veterans kind of "overstaying their welcome", but if you know the stories from back in the day surrounding Helseth and others, that's where it all began. Over the course of my life, I have seen few people with as bad of a character as him. But in general, this infantile, forcibly competitive "tough boy" image ANet wanted to propagate for GW2 esports shaped the mindset of most competitive players, and obviously it trickled down the ladder, so to say, rather sooner than later. By the way, these events also marked the beginning of the way too close relationships between certain competitive players and ANet devs and staff. Here the circles were created that lead to the preferred treatment of select PvPers that carries on until today. Toker got "permabanned" on his main and all his alts a year later, alongside Naru (who I might have met in WvW yesterday), Nos and others. The first and last time where ANet try to preserve some integrity for the game mode. In case you missed it, they were wintrading, selling mAT gizmos for real money, and sharing accounts to get those for people. The permabans were silently converted into - iirc - 3 month bans with permanent dishonor on the main. (Though, on a side note, Nos' girlfriend told me that he didn't know about that and is still banned, to be fair.) The only other time ANet did something was in 2021 because Teapot talked about the problem and it became very public. Before and after this there has been constant proof presented for top players manipulating matches, the ladder, and even tournament outcomes. Doesn't matter. To circle back to the beginning - when those tournaments were run, something went very, very wrong. It created these cliques, but also those unbelievably toxic, supremacist mentalities. But hey, if the literal Terms of Service don't apply to top PvPers, of course it will come back to haunt you. All this shit snowballed into ruining the entire PvP community. And my personal hypothesis is that the horrible personal stuff that went down back then also turned a lot of ANet staff off of developing the game mode and involving themselves into this stuff. Today, there's - from what I gathered - a handful of top PvPers with actual integrity. Sindrener is one of them. The only two good things which happened to the game mode after the 2017 ban wave are 1) the 2021 ban wave, even though it was very sketchy with no accounts being named and no evidence presented that they actually did anything, and 2) the fact that Helseth is forever gone. Everything else went to shit. Despite there being SO MANY new players taking interest into PvP all the time. I've witnessed it a lot in several of my guilds. But they try to play and get drawn into a cesspool of degeneracy, and once they do a tiny bit of research they don't see, "XYZ did this great thing in 2016," but instead find pages upon pages of forum and Reddit posts as well as UA-cam Videos talking about wintraders, match manipulation, brutal smurfing, AFK match farming, bots and more. And then they quit. Sorry man, I had to vent a little.

Woot, they finally uploaded this video. Shoutout to this championship event! I was at the attending this event live in person and enjoyed it a lot! The best thing is that I was so lucky to win one of the giveaways!
"we expect them to score more than 20 points" Anet, if you want to make this world championship more watched, interview Helseth even when his team is not playing, pretty please
He was so anxious/nervous though! Don't blame him a bit. in fact, what were they thinking putting a gamer in the spotlight? Don't they know gamers have no social skills? :D

Great tournament overall ! Please keep this awesome stuff going ! I was actually *really* impressed with how well the NA teams performed. I'm from EU, but I dare to say: NA pride definitely restored !
Really miss the e-sport sPvP tournaments, was fun while they lasted. I know that Anet seems to have abandoned the idea of e-sport or even sPvP. I have not played for a long time, especially since sPvP which is my favorite thing (PvP always been my thing). I really do wonder why they never comitted to this and I know Mobas are great e-sport games but Gw2 sPvP even stronghold, if done correctly, could have been amazing. I really hope we see the old days of sPvP again, it is missed .
That semi final of rank 55 vs denial was great from round 3 onward. That was what i enjoyed seeing, a proper comeback and a really close final game. I wish they had gone to round 5, truly
I was (and still am) rooting for Astral Authority. They have been struggling to shift with the meta, but never the less I still think they have it in them to win.
Pros: Condi chrono Bunker druid Old version of power herald Bruiser/support scrapper Longer time to kill Cons: Heal tempest Condi reaper No thieves No warriors No guardians
Could someone explain to me why it is every team's objective to kill the Necro first? Is it because of their passive heal abilities from the Blood Magic line?
Necros have very little defense outside of shroud so they are pretty squishy but if you let them live they will turn around a whole group fight to their team favor and murder more than one person at the same time, also not having the heavy tankiness from the elemental like before and the constant condi cleanse ( because they need to worry about not dying now ) makes necros very dangerous.
ffs, Helseth is the most arrogant person I've ever seen. At first I thought it was supposed to be a joke, but now that he said that "it was easy" and asked for a better challenge next time really frustrates me.
Not going to lie, I had a little freak-out on the edge of my seat. That was some wicked stuff. Would have been crazy if they made the comeback with a second left!
how do I enjoy this game? I'm stopped long time ago in a low level, cuz bored. can play on highest settings but still somehow feeling like something is missing.
Everything bigger than human/sylvari is simply bad. It is too clunky too predictable and telepathic. Compare a Charr to an Asura. There is no way not seeing an attack from a charr where on the other hand you barely see the asura cast it.
moody405 There's an option where you can choose if you'd like to see every opponent in ranked/custom arenas as human or not. Pretty much everyone has it checked so it really doesn't matter what you play, they'll see a human anyways.
I mean we can go back to this :) we can but the thing is that money would be better in better places but maybe soon we will be back at this we just need to wait :)
Christ, GW2 PvP is so lack luster. GW1 is so totally different, why'd they do this? They had something truly unique, and they ruined it with this. Bring back GVG!
I was so good at GW1... I also like and play GW2, but just casually, because I was just never able to catch up with it. 1:13:08 This guy looks like he's playing 25 hours a day btw...
Why so much salt? All players worked hard to bring us this event. At least show some appreciation. Btw, this is a US developed game. So no matter how good you are, you are still play our games.
Its 2020 and Im still watching this. I really missed good old gw2 tournaments :/
@Shimohira Reika it failed because its bad. mmos are primarily open world roaming. mobas are the king of esports
2023

Woot, they finally uploaded this video. Shoutout to this championship event! I was at the attending this event live in person and enjoyed it a lot! The best thing is that I was so lucky to win one of the giveaways!
You know... you guys could actually separate the matches into different videos... for obvious reasons
Or, at least put time-stamps in the video description. That would work too.
or that!
Anet has no clue, expect nothing.
"we expect them to score more than 20 points"
Anet, if you want to make this world championship more watched, interview Helseth even when his team is not playing, pretty please
He was so anxious/nervous though!
Don't blame him a bit.
in fact, what were they thinking putting a gamer in the spotlight?
Don't they know gamers have no social skills? :D
Thank you for the upload!!! As a necro player myself I saw the championship as the "Kill the Necro World Championship" :DD. GG to the winners!
Wish I could get back into this game. GGs to the winners
First match starts at 17:53

R.I.P competitive pvp ... they really fucked it up
Thank you for uploading the whole event! ♥
How many of these players are still playing the game?
I wish they would work on Pvp mode and make World Championship every year...
Man I wish GW2 had tournaments again X_X Even automated tournaments would be great.
it has now
thanks for uploading this =D couldn´t watch live!^^
I was (and still am) rooting for Astral Authority. They have been struggling to shift with the meta, but never the less I still think they have it in them to win.
What happened to the rest of the event? It cuts off during game 3 of Denial vs Never Lucky now!
Happens to me too
Arenanet, half-assing most things, especially PvP.
Can't even upload the whole VOD from their own event.:D
Thank you!!
I don't think the commentators know what cleave damage is. They seem to think any kind of damage is cleave. Weird.
CANT WAIT FOR 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't these days come back ?
+1
Pros:
Condi chrono
Bunker druid
Old version of power herald
Bruiser/support scrapper
Longer time to kill
Cons:
Heal tempest
Condi reaper
No thieves
No warriors
No guardians
It was 8 years ago no more like this
Could someone explain to me why it is every team's objective to kill the Necro first? Is it because of their passive heal abilities from the Blood Magic line?

he is two time world champ. they won 3-0. think its fair he is asking for a challenge
Because there are no good people left to challenge them, everyone left after the first year.
You try to give the video more brightness it will be great if you do
6:05:00 Helseth with a medi portal, sidenode cap, 1v2 kill, and doesnt die. Massive
based mesmer simp XD
Best season so far!
Why do people get their opponent to the down state and leave without killing them or placing debuffs?
joeylondonxo depends say you are going for lord its better to leave the lying there then letting them respond near the lord
3:30:15 the tension was real
Not going to lie, I had a little freak-out on the edge of my seat.
That was some wicked stuff. Would have been crazy if they made the comeback with a second left!
RAWR won in my heart :'(
R.I.P Guild Wars 2 Competitive PvP / WvW content.
Make it happen again
20:30 Come to Papi EZ POP TRR TRR :)
how do I enjoy this game? I'm stopped long time ago in a low level, cuz bored.
can play on highest settings but still somehow feeling like something is missing.
how can they make gw 2 a esport and fail at doing it for gw 1 which was far more superior when it came to pvp
Can we have this back ?
These would be so much better if they had small windows showing each team playing so spectator can see their reactions and behavior.
cuando se vera otro world champions de nuevo ?
Sindrener won this championship
Sarbak51 i didn't see sind in the r55 games, was he there?
*LOVE* this!!
I feel like I'm watching a version of Sunday Night Football akin to my interests.
Go Denial Esports! X0

Nos : "WTB Taxi for Worlds."
damn imagine
come on 6 Hours at once... cant you ppl split that
not like youtube saves where you stopped watching /sarcasm
Do people play as Charr in PvP or is it just Humans and Asura?
Everything bigger than human/sylvari is simply bad. It is too clunky too predictable and telepathic. Compare a Charr to an Asura. There is no way not seeing an attack from a charr where on the other hand you barely see the asura cast it.
Amar Hidanovic
More or less what I thought. I made an Asura engineer.
Cheers
Ever heard about standard enemy models?
No.
moody405 There's an option where you can choose if you'd like to see every opponent in ranked/custom arenas as human or not. Pretty much everyone has it checked so it really doesn't matter what you play, they'll see a human anyways.
World?.. What? A league in their own way
almost seems like no necro might be the way to go
You can cut game by game ... Its annoying a 6hours video
where is the warriors?
I mean we can go back to this :) we can but the thing is that money would be better in better places but maybe soon we will be back at this we just need to wait :)
More championship
SINDRENER FACE REVEAL HYPE BOYS
Set up the kills outside the base.....and you are proud of that?
I hate the meta. 4 of 5 classes are the same between the teams and the builds are mostly identical.
Thats pretty lame...
Where are the asians?
They're on WoW

that blonde jesus guy looks way older than he is.
Great meme
Suit jackets and jeans lol
I thought the same thing. Looks ridiculous xD
Triston P
Exactly .It`s like their big sister dressed them or something lol Whats so bad with t-shirt and jeans or whatever they normally dress in .
@@PepinTheShort Semi-formal dress, nowadays often used, there is no problem with this.
Christ, GW2 PvP is so lack luster. GW1 is so totally different, why'd they do this? They had something truly unique, and they ruined it with this. Bring back GVG!

Once again NA peasants were obliterated by EU gods ✿☯‿☯✿
Why so much salt? All players worked hard to bring us this event. At least show some appreciation. Btw, this is a US developed game. So no matter how good you are, you are still play our games.
Agreed. I was actually *really* impressed how well the NA teams took the fight to the EU teams overall ! Didn't expect them to perform that well !
*****
Well, EU is currently the "Korea" of GW2 PVP, I obviously took that into account when talking about NA's performance.
guess the only time that doesn't apply is real life
5:41:52
Horribly boring... GW1 pvp was actually enjoyable to watch.
There's no reason why things are boring.
This game is dying.
I never liked the pvp in this game
wtf this isn't world championships they are ridiculous bad player
