  • This is a video of a two day backpack in the Rhondda Valleys. Both the Fawr and Fach were visited as I checked the route of a forthcoming walking event called the Rhondda Rollercoaster. That event is being held on 13.05.23 and is being organised by the South Wales Long Distance Walkers Association.
Details of the event and how to enter can be seen at: www.southwales...
My role with the walking group was to check the route and make amendments to the existing route description where alterations were noted.
I followed the route to the Ferndale Windfarm where I camped for the night. I didn't need to check the second half of the route as I did that last week.
I returned to Trehafod where the Walk HQ will be based via Porth and Llwyncelyn Farm.

Thanks for your video. The valleys look so peaceful and beautiful. My great great grandfather at 21 left his family farm in the Valley in 1864 and emigrated to Australia. They named a family house in my home town "Rhondda" so I guess he thought fondly of his homeland and undoubtedly missed the area as well as his family.

The Rhondda really is beautiful 🤩 it’s easy to get caught up in the Industry and mining ⛏️ that happened here in the past my dad and grandfather both worked in pits near here but it’s great to see how nature has taken back what is hers 😊🙏🏼🏔️🏔️🏔️

Lovely video Dave, interesting. Its not difficult to imagine all the industry that once was there. When I think of the vallys it reminds me of what George Borrow said about the desolation there in his book Wild Wales which I'm sure you have read.
    Cheers 👍

I love my Rhondda very much. I'm so passionate about the Rhondda, when I was 8 years old I joined the tonypandy library to find out about the tonypandy riots, I also found out about some of the titanic ships coal came from the Rhondda
