Just watched your video. Let Alyssa know, you don’t need the key to remain in the vehicle if you want to leave the HVAC System running. You simply, get out the vehicle without Turing it off and lock it. The vehicle is locked and the HVAC will remain running for 30 minutes. You can disable the 30 minute auto off feature as well through settings. If someone were to break into the vehicle while it’s running and the key isn’t present, they wouldn’t be allowed to put it into gear. Even if it was unlocked, no key present, no shifting gears. Owners of Mach-E use this technique for camping, looks like it’s working pretty good. I agree, it’s much simpler in the Tesla, but there’s an option in the Mach-E.
My bestie's Mach-E had that junction box failure and left him stranded. Ford didn't have a rental so he went and rented a Model Y from Hertz...He ordered a Model Y to trade in in his Mach-E for a Model Y as soon as he got his Mach-E back. He had various other small issues with his Mach-E that was just made more annoying by having to deal with Ford's dealerships. Ford would constantly tell him the ONE technician certified would always be out when he needed to get service done. Not that Tesla service is anything to write home about, but at least Tesla knows how to service their own EVs.
Exactly! Dealerships. They are the problem with vehicle ownership across the board! It doesn't matter what you have, the dealership makes owning a car horrible. The majority of the sales force doesn't know much about their product. They can be selling paperclips for all they care. And there's service departments that aren't properly trained either. It's unfortunate they have such huge lobbying power in this country. They make it impossible for progress to happen.
@@jeffs6090 yeah i despise musk, but overall love tesla and my model 3. they get the important EV aspects of EV ownership right. i like a lot of the new EVs hitting the market too, but dealing with horrible dealerships doesn't make me all that excited to switch to an EV from a "traditional" automaker.
Oh yeah, all of those Tesla "dealerships", where are they again? Every town has a Ford dealership, and yeah, they employ Americans who still think Mach e is a "crazy car", that will change when EVs are the norm. The average American thinks that electric vehicles are on the way out, the fad is over. Unfortunately, many of those work at Ford dealerships. Jim Farley is a smart guy and I'm sure he knows this and understands that this is an obstacle to them becoming really successful.
It's funny how these reviews and comments constantly talk about software. Do you guys ever drive the vehicles? Does it corner well, how are the brakes, is it sporty, how direct is the steering and does it provide nice feedback etc. I drove my friends Polestar 2 BST the other day - it was amazing, I didn't even notice the the lack of an ICE. It was a great sporty ride.
I've had my Mach E GT for about 18 months now and, while is absolutely the best car and my favorite car that I've ever owned or routinely driven in my nearly 30 years as a driver, there are definitely areas for Ford to improve upon, which you covered. When I bought my mach-e, the price difference between it and Tesla wasn't so dramatic, but I would have gone with Mach E anyway. I much preferred the fact that the Mach E had more physical buttons, and I preferred the mach E's screens. It is also much more attractive to me. I literally grin when I see my car, even a year a half later. It's not perfect but I love it. I did have my HVJB fail last summer. I also want to mention that when I was deciding which EV to buy, I found your videos absolutely invaluable, so thank you!
I’m glad this popped up as a suggested video. Just bought my Mach-e this weekend. So much to learn as a first time EV owner. I appreciate this content. 😊
Thanks Kyle for this follow up on Mach-E - we are finally adding a second EV this week - got $13k off a new 23 Mach-E premium ex awd - this will join our existing 22 Tesla model YLR which we love!
Thank you for this assessment. My overall impression is that we are still early in the EV era. While I am not a Tesla fanboy, they obviously have more experience as an only EV manufacturer and appear to have better technology throughout their cars. The continual comparison to Tesla confirms that Tesla sets the standard. Price is also a very fair concern. Why would I buy a Ford at a $10k premium when I can buy a technologically superior Tesla for less? Ford has a way to go, but they have good leadership, and most of what you criticized here is fixable, so there are no overwhelming issues facing them. I hope Ford can become a strong competitor to Tesla. We need more competition and better quality to ensure that the transition from ICE to EVs is easy.
Two words why I would never buy a Tesla: Elon Musk. He is going to drive it into bankruptcy just like he is doing with twitter. The man is an ego maniac with no concern about his consumers.
@@wheelsee If the only reason not buying Tesla is Elon and you don't want be mainstream, then it's no wonder Model Y is outselling Mach E 10:1, I see a new Model Y every week in my town and I've only ever seen 2 Mustangs despite having a local Ford Dealer
I just want to say as one of the original 2021 Mustang Mach E owner...you have hit this review out of the park. Everything you mentioned I have experienced and agree needs to be addressed and also love the things that Ford brings to the EV space with the Mach E. Love this video and love ❤️ my Mach E to death!! 😊
Just listening to this and your comment about the cool handles and how well door opening Works… My Mach-E has been in the shop for one month because a PCB controlling the opening (seems there is one by door) in the rear passenger door shorted out and burned itself after a charge cycle on my home level 2 charger. When that happens the door cannot be opened from in OR outside of the car. The Ford dealer I went to had to destroy the interior of the door to get to the latch. I think it’s worrysome that doors can become inoperable. And one month to change a part? Silly.
I don’t like it in black because it mitigates the sloping roofline look. The main design cue of this car is that roofline and it looks awesome. Black is a big no for me on this car.
I think styling and interface are the things that will keep the competition in the game against TESLA. The Y has the big advantage of the charging network right now, but on a daily basis, if you want to look at your car and feel satisfaction or you don’t like the minimalist interior and want a few knobs and buttons for quick adjustments, it might not meet your needs. I think the Y has become the practical choice because of charging and price, but it’s still a lot of money if it leaves you wanting. Most people will rarely need fast charging, but they might want a volume knob 10 times on every drive.
@@SunriseLAW wow. You are a perfect candidate for an EV. Yes, batteries are improving over time, but they are quite good right now. I commend you for your willpower, but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed at all with most of the current EVs out there
Ive recently driven a Tesla Model 3 a few times, test drove a mach e premium with extended battery yesterday. I prefer the mach e when comparing them. Ive never driven a Model Y
One missing thing that I wished Kyle had mentioned is the missing kW rate during DC Fast Charging. It's not like the data isn't there; you can pull it off the OBD2 connector, so why no display that on the screen with everything else?
I was really interested in the Mach E when we started EV shopping but the price was a little more than I was looking to spend at the time (at least here in Canada). Appreciate this honest look at the car and some of the areas of improvement!
I agree with Alyssa, a version of Tesla's Dog Mode is really required. And to add to what Kyle was saying, there should be a "Leave Climate Running" switch when exiting the vehicle. While our 2021 ID4 doesn't have a "Dog Mode", it does have the ability to set departure time climate and charging AND a switch comes up on the display when exiting the car called "Immediate Climate" to keep the A/C running if you hop out for a few minutes. Love that feature here in the fiery low deserts of So. Cal.
Honestly, I don’t see why DogMode would be necessary when the Marc E provides the ability to just leave the vehicle on when you exit. Your AC will stay on whatever temperature you’ve left it at and the fan speed will continue to work at whatever fan speed you selected.
@@schism480 They explain the issues they have with it in the video. Its a a bad solution. Also, with dog mode in a Tesla it puts a big message on the screen with the current temperature inside the vehicle so that hopefully nobody smashes your window.
@@ultrastoat3298 Lol what!? The Mach E can be left on while you exit the vehicle. If you set your AC to 68° and your fan speed from 1-7 and exit the vehicle then The AC will continue to run at whatever you last had it or set it at, thus rendering a mode to specifically leave your climate running unnecessary.
My daughter and I, did a zero to sixty demo drive at the New York Auto show. It was a sick experience, In a good way. My daughter loves the car, and so do I. It is just too expensive compared to the Tesla model Y and 3. Pricing and value for what you are paying is the driving factor in the EV market right now. There is an imbalance in pricing between Tesla and everyone else.
I think part of that is that the dealership keeps about 18% of the MSRP for themselves, and Ford is only getting $45,000 when the retail MSRP is $60,000. So Ford need to put the MSRP sky high for Ford to make any profit. Tesla has their own dealership network, or customer pick up locations, so they pay the electric bill, rent the building, and little else. Pay the employees. So Tesla can deliver the cars and spend less than $5,000 per car delivery. That allows Tesla to have a MSRP about $10,000 just because the Ford dealership is making about $15,000 on each Mustang they sell! Yes even the gas ones.
Good list, as a 2 year MME owner, I pretty much agree with everything said, especially on current pricing. I have a Premium AWD ER that I put GTPE wheels on and think it’s the perfect value/performance mix. I am not a fan of the Tesla Model 3 or Y styling and interior so would never buy one because of that but it’s hard to argue when they are SO much less expensive.
add: Tesla Model 3 and Model Y are SO much less expensive (due to scale and efficiency) and SO much more technologically advanced in both hardware and software. Why would one spend more money for an overall inferior (Ford) product? Because it looks better? Enjoy sitting in your overpriced but technologically inferior "nicer styled car with nicer interior".
Eric, the #1 reason my wife preferred (& paid the premium) over a Model Y is that the Mach-E by comparison is the more "car-like" BEV. Both of us find that whole Spartan thing unappealing.
@@lovswrI agree, people buy anything, two color options on seat, really u called that’s luxury. Coming from luxury buyers that’s cheap as hell. Remember when iPhones came out people jumped in line for one. It’s same thing with this cheap Tesla product.
After some though, you are right that 1st time EV owners just do not know what an EV is capable of. In 2017, I tired of waiting for the Model 3 and bought a Model S. I paid a lot for the car and mine did everything I wanted with no comprises. I appreciated the car more over time because it continued to get better.. I have a 7 year old car that's more technically advanced than most cars made today. So many things I took for granted then is cutting edge today. The charging system and the ease of charging is unbelievable when you compare it to the big old complicated clunky crap that other makers have been forced to change because they failed to develop a charging network. My car is still like new. Many people still find it very attractive and it is the most fun car I have ever owned.
Hopefully when Ford’s GE2 platform replaces the GE1 platform under the MachE many of these issues will be resolved. Unfortunately that isn’t coming until 2025, at the earliest. And then it will initially be for Explorer/Aviator/3-row SUVs. Next generation MachE isn’t likely before 2026. With GE1 production costs so high the MachE sales will continue to fall until then. Going with the MachE was a great move initially but they are just moving too slow. The next few years will likely be rough for them, especially outside the US. Hopefully the GE2 & TE/T3 platforms are well designed and significantly lower cost to build. They can’t afford any more self inflicted wounds.
Tesla will have their next-gen “un-boxed” platform for smaller vehicles by then. The 3/Y prices won’t go too much lower. As costs go down they will take larger margins instead. But by the time MachE and their larger vehicles are getting closer to price competitiveness Tesla will be going after their high volume Escape/Kuga & F-Series. Like I said the GE2 & TE/T3 platforms must be significant improvements just for them to minimize the overall market share losses that are coming for all OEMs.
The loss of money Ford will have to until 2026 is mind blowing in the billions. They did it to to themselves. Everyone was laughing at Tesla but now everyone wants to be them...
The GT doesn’t have the same suspension as the Premium. It is a much firmer, tighter suspension setup. It eliminates the bouncing of the premium trim model, but it feels a lot more like a performance vehicle’s suspension would feel, which some may find harsh.
Yes but they overall are huge profitable as a company. Tesla was loosing money nonstop for years and funded by investors before finally turning a profit. Ford will be funded by their truck and fleet business as they scale volumes in EVs.
@@DarwinChaug Not that simple. Don’t know what Ford’s profits were, but in the first quarter Tesla came within an eyelash off making as much money as Toyota, with a little more than one tenth the sales volume. Point being traditional OEMs don’t have as many profits to prop up they EV losses as you think.
@@jayjohnson3732 not this quarter after cutting prices by 30%. More cuts coming. Remember we were in a car shortage. Margins will match Fords in short order.
I have this exact car but a 22’. Pretty much agree with most everything but a couple exceptions and additions to improvements. My roads in Arkansas are pretty good so I really don’t find the suspension to be as much of an issue and I push it pretty hard on some winding roads. Love the interior, sound system, and build quality. Everything feels good in the vehicle. Biggest plus for many customers like me (in a more rural area) is I have a local Ford dealer for service. If I bought a Y I’d have to go 250-300 miles away to get to a service center. That played a factor in my decision. IMPROVEMENTS: My app hasn’t worked correctly for 9 MONTHS (since I bought the car) and Ford still can’t get plug and charge to work with my car! It’s been escalated 5 times and still nothing, so that’s not good. The app and the UI is missing so much info EV drivers want to know. The Tesla app and UI tell you everything such as how much money you’ve saved by driving an EV. Give us all the nerdy data! All in all I really like my MME. Get my app working, give us a few software updates to fix a few minor complaints, and get me my NACS adapter and I’ll be happy. Solid review guys!
Review was good! I have a 2021 premium and I haven’t had any issues with it. The tech is next level for ford and they have been great with their OTA updates and improvements. I can’t wait for the next generation to come out
I was lucky enough to get a Mach E back in 2021 before the prices increases. It's a FANTASTIC car. I love it. I have the CA Route 1 trim and the mileage I get is nothing short of amazing: 350 miles in 50/50 driving, highway speeds of 75mph. Build quality and materials is great.
The most concerning aspect of buying a Mustang Mach E for me is that the manufacturer, Ford Model E, is not producing the car at a profit. That fact is a huge yellow, if not a red, flag, and here's why I say that. I bought a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) that was not profitably being produced by the manufacturer, Hyundai, from 2016 to 2021 when it was discontinued. With just 17,000 miles on the odometer, and still under full warranty, the Li-ion battery failed. My car has been at a dealer service center for more than 6 months waiting for a new battery. I still have no idea when the car will be repaired and returned to me. If you buy an EV that is not being built profitably, there's a chance that support and service for the car will slacken or disappear altogether.
I have a Mach-e 2023 same color as yours and honestly I love everything about it. I really don’t get any problems or see nothing negative about the car. That’s my honest review. I been having the car for 2 months now got it with 7miles on it.
I agree with some of your points. Some things can be tuned with Forscan (honk when closing the turned on vehicle, lights on remote start, etc). When you turned of the honking, you can also turn off the power down timer (30 minutes), lock the vehicle with the key from the outside and the vehicle keeps running. Used this already a lot of time when on vacation. My biggest complaint are actually the OTA updates in Europe. They really suck. My Job 1.5 (MY21) received the Power Up 3 last week. After 9 months without any update. It was more than 20 updates behind the US version. My car lease runs out in November next year. I'm not sure if I will ever see Power Up 4, if Ford keeps updating with that "pace". Actually in Europe we have a button on the key for opening the frunk. This button still does not work for my vehicle. The second thing which annoys me is the lack of charging information and also that there is no way to set a permanent charge limit. Other than that the vehicle looks nice, I like driving around with it, but (as you said) it is way too expensive for the given features. The charging curve is okay for me, I mean Ford was not hiding anything in the specs that the vehicle takes 45 minutes to 80%. Actually, 15 minutes charging stops are to short and annoying for me, has this with my Ioniq before.
Saw a tare down of the Mach-E battery. The high current conductor inside looks like a #6 awg wire, at 350Amps fast charging from my single free air temp rise table, theres a 200degC temperature rise above ambient. From this type of thermal cycling the connections will get loose over time, over heat more, possibly case a fires down the road. Ford cost cutting to save a few bucks on copper. Recalls down the road?
@@universeisundernoobligatio3283 My bad. Read & said "Amps" but brain was thinking "KW" (was still on 1st cup of coffee when I read your comment I guess!)
Really good video Kyle. We’ve had ours (AWD ER Premium) for over a year now. You’ve hit on all the biggest problems, IMO: HVJB is a hanging knife, ICE combustion mindset with the software and the car’s behavior, and the price is just not competitive with what the Model Y sits at right now. I will say, it’s got amazing range for the class, it has great storage, and it’s the best looking crossover in this segment. But “Gen 1” is such an accurate way to classify the issues it has. Whenever they refresh this car, HVJB issues will be gone, suspension will be better, tires will be larger, charge curve will be higher and more consistent and over NACS, and it will be hugely competitive in this segment. Thanks for this video!
I’m sure Tesla has its issues but things like failing high voltage junction boxes and poor thermal management really make me appreciate Tesla engineering
That's because this is their first major EV. Go back to the first Model S vehicles and Tesla had major failures of their suspension, of which they basically threatened to sue the people if they broke an NDA in order to get it fixed. I wouldn't buy a Mach E period, but that's because I think Ford sucks all around. I don't have much faith in GM either, and buying an EV from a "move fast and break things" company who has intentionally not documented serious safety issues, doesn't inspire confidence either. Plus the CEO is a complete sociopath.

Agree with you. I was going to buy a Mustang Mach E in Australia, but when Ford released the Price, it was just too expensive compared with the Tesla Model Y. The entry-level of the Mach-E cost 87K AUD and that is just an RWD model with a range of 470 KM. I can buy a Model Y Dual Motor with a range of 530 KM for 84K AUD. If Ford would offer the entry-level for 70K, I will probably buy it ( The Tesla Model Y RWD is 68K ) but charging 87K is just a really bad value.
If the price was $63k that would be bad enough but the dealers are marking it up. And they wonder why they have a 90 supply. Price price price. The dealer networks are killing the big three and they have union contracts coming up for renewal.
@@Dive-Bar-Casanova it’s unlikely that Ford is going to get rid of the dealers anytime soon there are laws in virtual every state protecting them. Their only choice is going to be to start a new company and then sell direct.

I'm live in a suburb of Los Angeles. It seems like every 3rd or 4th car out on the road here is a Tesla model 3 or Y. I do not see many Mustang Mach E's.
Former Mach E owner (9 months) and current Model Y owner (10+ months). Mach E plusses: door handles are much easier to use. Wiper stalk with sensitivity control. Instrument cluster behind steering wheel. Better weekly schedule for preconditioning car (you can set schedule for different days of the week). Mach E issues: No quiet chirp option for locking doors. Rotary shifter is terrible design (it would be perfect if it was return to center and left was reverse, right was drive, and the middle button should be park). App only lets you precondition car for two 15-minute blocks, then you have to start the car (in the car) to reset this to get another two 15-minutes blocks. What Mach E and Model Y can use: cooled seats and heads-up display.
2021 First Edition Mach-E owner here (so basically the earliest adopter) and I 100% agree with everything here. I LOVE my Mach-E but the High Voltage Junction Box is a huge black eye on Ford. Its shameful they arent proactively replacing these...every day in the forums is another person who's had it die and doesnt know what to do, we have to educate new owners all the time. Mine died 2 months into ownership and left me stranded. It definitely needs better dampers especially on the Premium for the price. And owners have been begging for dog mode for years...Ford IS working on it but embarrassing how long its taking them, coming up on the 4th model year soon and still not here. Also, the car constantly forgets your radio presets...happens to almost ALL owners for all 3 model years. Maddening. That said, I love the combo of looks, build quality, performance and creature comforts, and how the profiles work (1-pedal settings stick even after turning off and is tied to profiles). And to their credit, Ford enabled a voice feedback feature where in the screen you can record 45 seconds of any feedback you have. I have high hopes for Gen 2.
Ford does not care. It is a shitty company that makes cars that are designed to fail. They know about the existing issues and they know how to fix them. They just don’t, because they are betting on making money on repairs later.
My wife bought her 2023 Mach-E RWD Standard Range this past March. Kyle I concurr that Ford needs to provide a in-vehicle "Charge-Now!" button via software update. As I type these words, the Mach-E is charging (you have to use the app ro force a charge off schedule) on our JuiceBox. The first time I went to charge at home, I thought I was an idiot becuase I could not figure out how to make the thing charge to "X" percentage manually. Once you set your preferred charging times (here in Tampa the cheapest rates are between 2300 to 0600 hours) the car will wait until that time (built-in intelligence can & will change the preferred times) to charge unless you force it to charge now via the app. My other compliant is that when charging, DC or AC, kWs input is not indicated inside the vehicle or via the app. It just shows miles gained, which in my opinion too dependant to be useful. I also agree that the standard rear suspension needs to be toned down. Of course these are First World gripes and as a first attempt I think Ford did a good job. Your other suggestions about creature comforts would also be great items for Ford to implement.
I've had my Mach-E for a little over a year. I LOVE THE CAR and I totally agree with your assessment. Here are my 3 biggest changes I think should be made on the gen 2. 1. WE NEED CLIMATE CONTROLS INDEPENDENT OF THE ON/OFF STATE! 2. VENTILATED SEATS! 3. 800 VOLT SYSTEM WITH BETTER THERMAL MANAGEMENT. Besides that, minor tweaks to the standard suspension would help as well as a camp mode and a dog mode. My last request would be a drag mode. Something that gives you up to 10 seconds of full power for at least a few pulls on the performance trim. Thanks Ford!
I recently purchased a 2023 mach-e and while thankfully it doesn't seem to have some of the issues you've had, it has other issues which Ford as a company has criminally either taken away or just not acknowledging to customers. They have gotten rid of hands free lift gate, parking assist and auto park has been disabled without any information if it will ever work again and the windsheild/screen restricts all RFID toll tags and radar detector installed inside. Real problem is Ford's criminal silence and unwillingness to acknowledge a problem the whole world is telling them. My first and last Ford or Lincoln for sure.
I own a 2022 RWD Extended for a year now and this review is spot on. The biggest issue for me is the suspension. I just wish they fix that. I would buy it again though... good looking and never had a single issue for 12000 miles so far.
If I were to give a review of Mach-E it would be exactly what Kyle states in this video. It's a very good car that could be great if Ford listens to kyle. If someone is looking for an honest review of Mach-E this is the video to watch.
We have a 2023 Mach E Premium rear wheel drive with the standard battery. I have noticed that if you have the recycled air on that sometimes the vent opens while still showing closed. Why?
Preconditioning happens with preset departure times, without lights going on. I agree about the lack of a universal state of charge limit. As for the comparison with the Model Y, there are many differences between the two vehicles' driving experience that can account for *some* of the pricing differences.
The Tesla model Y is not $10,000 less with full auto pilot. If you’re correct, please tell me where I can go buy one? I got a 2023 space white all-wheel-drive extended battery 1.3 blue cruise with the night pony package at $60,500.
1 year owner here and PaaK Phone as a Key just now works after many OTA updates to car and app. Look at the forums to see the issue. We are also still waiting for Blue cruise 1.2 still no date when it will arrive. Great car otherwise. Spot on with other items called out.
I do agree about the pricing... if I had to do over and knew that the Model Y pricing was going to come down so much, I probably would have gone with the Model Y. The Mach E though is MUCH more comfortable than the Model Y. The idea about state of charge and it automatically turning on climate control when you unlock the car is an AMAZING idea. I also agree the 5 second full power with the Mach E is horrible... I HATE it! You also hit the nail on the head, this is my first EV car so I don't know any better as far as charging times. I really don't understand the suspension gripe though... it seems to handle well and the car feels quite settled. I also agree about the knob, I wish we actually had physical buttons though. I don't like finger prints and having to wait on software in order to make changes.
The Mach-E is (arguably?) the best "divert an ICE design to EV in mid development" attempt, but it still looks (and performs) like an ICE design diverted in mid development!
I own the Mock-E GT Performance and absolutely love it. There's always room for improvements, but overall, this is a great vehicle. It's my understanding that Ford already has a built-in battery charge limit set by the factory so we get 100% on the gauge but in reality we don't charge to 100% as there is a buffer built in the software. I could be wrong but I am fairly confident that we can't ruin the batteries by charging to 100%. That's why they don't have adjustable charging limits.
Kyle, thank you for that great review and honest critique. I have a 2022 F150 lightning, and I love this truck. However, the software won’t update, and so far Ford does not have a solution for that. Also, they just issued a recall because the back up lights might get wet and short out. This has resulted in the vehicle being delisted from Turo. Do you have any contacts at Ford who might help with this? The regular channels have been a bust.
Kyle, agree with your points. Two questions in your comparison. How is the Nav system; and, How is the windshield wiper control? Tesla nav is great, but windshield wiper systems was just horrible, and Tesla finally released a manual button (yes, a manual button) control in the last update.
I actually like the nav system. It is very fast with calculating routes with charging multiple charging stops. To be honest, windshield wiper control is annoying. But I never had a vehicle with good wiper control. But you can turn off the rain sensor, and just use the interval setting.
Thanks for all your videos. I ordered the prem. W/ LFP battery and found it very reasonably priced compared to the Model Y. The only thing is the wait, maybe I get it in October?
As a Mach E First Edition (Premium AWD) owner, I agree - the Mach E could use a price cut. A Mach E at $63k+ (or even ~$50k for a Premium AWD) is over-priced, just like most Tesla models. The EV6 and Ioniq 5/6 are better cars for similar money.
Kyle we need an update to display the kW charging speed in the car. BlueCruise 1.3 updates support for narrow lanes and stay engaged through more curves.
I had a 2020 Model Y for two years and traded it in for a 2021 mach E Extended Range AWD Premium and actually like it better for the following reasons: 1) the MME has real blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert, the MY does not. 2) The MME has a much smoother ride than that of my MY with 20 wheels which made it excruciating and 3) the MY windows would freeze shut with just a little bit of frozen rain which would cause the door not to close since it is a frameless window. But the MY did have a heat pump that made it more efficient in the winter. But using the MME for vacations is difficult since there are very few fast chargers in the hills of northern New England and at the beaches in southern New England. NACS should make that easier.
Nothing in your response objectively shows how a MachE is better than a Tesla outside of your personal preference and experience. Note you won’t be able to connect to a supercharger until next year as well, no thanks to Tesla’s established dominance in the EV space.
@@PPSGLEK Do you understand what he means in #1? The absence of blind-spot and cross-traffic detection is a glaring omission in any car. Once you have it, you don't want to do without it. Our cars navigate parking lots and streets and freeways much more than they do carving up and down canyons, so I'll take a safety feature any day over maximum power while driving "in a spirited manner." The poster has made all valid points, but your fandom bias seems to prevent you from recognizing them, so you dismiss them.
@@rusticroads If it makes you feel better that you chose the right product because it has cross-traffic and blind-spot detection like the rest of the legacy ICE vehicles have then have at it and use those features to their fullest. Are they necessary features? 4+ million Tesla vehicles on the road would suggest otherwise.
@@PPSGLEK You are highlighting my statement about fandom bias. Safety features aren't "an ICE thing" they are intended to make driving safer. Just because Tesla decides not to use them doesn't make them useless, just that Tesla has chosen not to include them. Teslas would be better with those features than without. That's one of the points of Kyle's videos: improving the vehicles and pushing mfrs to improve as a whole in a nascent market. Don't let blind tribalism and fanboy behavior get in the way of encouraging companies to do better than they are.
@@rusticroads I never said those systems are useless, just not necessarily necessary. Just as you said Tesla has chosen not to include them, Ford has (and most legacy automakers), but doesn't make the Ford any safer or better. (maybe it just gives you more peace of mind). If so, please show me data where Teslas are having statistically more accidents because they don't have blind spot monitoring or cross traffic alerts. Does Ford have some database of miles driven showing that their safety is better than Tesla? I don't think so, meanwhile Tesla has billions of collected & analyzed miles of data.
Personally I like that when I'm not at home it fully charges. When at home it's set to 90%. This works great with my use case. Saying that they should add another setting that the can control for all the rest of the charging spots.
@@rogerstarkey5390 I plan on just parking all the way to the right at a supercharger or in the immediate adjacent stall to the left of another CCS car if it's there.
@@anthonyc8499 If you think about it, Tesla announced 12,000 chargers available. In 2022 (before the Government announcement) they said the network would double by Q3 2024. That's about 1,000 units per month. 12,000 new units in 2023 (running into Q1 '24). Assuming talks were in progress (JF said they had been for some time) Tesla would be installing software compliant units, all the 12,000 chargers could be in new locations by next year. You'll also see sites where they have rotated the chargers 180° so the cable outlet is at the centre of the bay. That allows the existing cable to reach "wrong position, corner port" cars, while still being good for Teslas. I imagine the V4 style cabinet will start appearing soon, with the "bay central" cable outlet and longer cable. However, as I suggested, Tesla owners won't notice, they will have double the number of units, and relatively few extra vehicles using the network.
Good fair review. I’ve had my premium for over 2 years and generally pretty happy. Agree with all your points. The spec here in the UK seems to be a bit behind you in the US. The ride however is appalling and would not buy another until this is sorted out.
Some other little niceties, physical key, heads up display easier access to 12 volt battery, cooling front seats, better rear brakes, wider tires I have my second premium AWD extended range and love it!!
One thing that the Mach-E has that Tesla still hasn’t grasped (and may only do so once the EU cracks down on them) Tactile controls for basic functions. Try and turn on the wipers (especially in the refreshed model 3) A basic function like that should not be something that you have to “guesstimate” where it is
It’s good that other providers are stepping up to provide ccs chargers, because the original charge point stations are unreliable to the point of being a liability in high temps. I was stranded in Bakersfield for 8 hours the last time I took the 5
You nailed it in the beginning, the biggest issue is the price. But it's not just as simple as lowering the MSRP because they already lose a lot of money on them. They have to re-engineer the entire design to make it better (especially suspension and software) and cheaper to make. A lot cheaper. That's not easy to do.
If you go to the charging section under the home menu and select the “one-time charge limit” menu item, it puts a big slider on the screen so that you can set the stopping point for you next or current charging session
@@wva5089 This is an opportunity for improvement, but in reality, how often, when you are away from home, or other common charging locations (which are covered by location based charging) do you really want to adjust your charging target? 90% for DCFC and 100% for L2 charging, like at hotels, seems like a pretty good default. He was asking about a slider on the screen to set the charge limit for the current session, and it’s there, only a couple clicks away.
Walked out to my 2021 Mach e and no light flashes... no horse on the ground... key fob didn't work... door panel unlock didn't light up... STUCK! And towing is a problem as back wheels are locked. Fun day!
I've been the owner of a used 2021 mach-e for less than a day and already agree with all of your assessments. I have experienced most of them firsthand already, exception being the DC fast charging. Good news is, almost all of this can be made significantly better with software updates, except for suspension upgrades. Ball's in your court, Ford!
Love the mach-e especially in cyber orange. I think ford should make the dash a little more aggressive looking more like the normal mustang and offer different colors like red and maybe orange on the interior. Magnetic ride control needs to be like a track pack option for all trims and wider tires.
Spot on! It is the doubling or tripling of DC charging times compared to Model Y that stops us buying these... an 11 hour drive to Los Angeles in our ICE (or 12 hours in a Model Y) becomes a 14 hour drive which makes me shudder.
I'm shocked not showing charging speed anywhere on the car when DCFC wasn't on your list of gripes! That's another thing they absolutely need to fix moving forward. Other than that, really good list! You can use Forscan to turn off the double honk but it's ridiculous you can't just toggle it off in the software.
I agree with the charging speed. You can also turn off the lights on remote start with Forscan. And I think there is also the option to disable the vehicle shutdown timer (30 minutes), so you can also leave the car and lock it from the outside when you are on a short stop.
Great list, the only thing I disagree with is the start up sequence when you get in the car. That’s actually my biggest gripe about my Tesla 3, anytime I go to the garage to get something out of the car or put something in it the AC compressor starts running and the car wakes up. It seems like an unnecessary amount of wear and tear on the AC compressor to turn on every time you open the door or trunk, especially considering it’s not actually reducing the amount of time it takes to condition the cabin by a significant amount
@@rogerstarkey5390 depending on usecase? today i think I opend door or trunk 30 times while it was parked. The boot worked as my tool box, pasenger seat as an office for my laptop. Would been quite anoyed to have a car start ac compressor that many times. They are not that cheap, especially the high voltage ones in ev's + the wear on the high voltage relays. they are okay priced but removing battery and opening it up is a day + work. just becuase stupid design. It really shows with your question how little some of you can think outside the box.
I rented a model y for a week and even though I precondition the car every time I supercharge my charging was 35-45 min. I drove it a lot 200+ miles daily for a week had to supercharge twice a day non was less than 33 min. Again it was a model y at a Tesla super charger. Where did you charge less than 15 min
Thanks! You bring the problems of the MME down to the point. I love my MME4X, I am harassed from some minor faults which could easily solved by software. I am disappointed from the HVJB. Had to breakdowns, every 18K kms. Software updates are in Europe way behind of the US. In Germany we just got. 3.5.3. 4.x is expected not before end 2023.
Thanks Kyle and Alyssa. Mach-E was my runner up to Model Y. With Kyle’s recommendations, it should sell a lot more, including the new NACS connecters and Tesla superchargers. ❤❤❤
There is one issue you forgot that Ford needs to fix. They need to fix the $800 annual subscription for BlueCruise, which is a much inferior driver assistance system compared to the much superior $250 annual GM Super Cruise which works on way more roads than BlueCruise and even works while towing.
Great video. Still not sure how to feel about the car as I just got it a few days ago since my Tesla was totaled a little over a month ago. Hope I can get used to it!
You make some valid points, however not everyone wants or envies a Tesla. For me and my usage, the only reason to own a Tesla is the charging network. No other reason.
The ride if this car is the worst I have ever seen on a modern production car, especially the rear suspension, which is over sprung and under damped. There are many threads all over the forums on the terrible suspension. It seems like there is also a lack of travel in the suspension and a lot of friction/resistance due to the type of bushings used. The ride gets scary if the bumps are timed the right way with some crazy oscillations. I think this is the number one flaw of the car and until ford fixes the bouncy suspension, they are going to have trouble selling these. It’s the number one flaw of the car in my opinion
How much is it to add FSD to a Tesla MY? Because adding that makes it equivalent to a MME with BlueCruise… Auto Pilot is just adaptive cruise and lane centering, not the same level of ADAS as BC… and that may even out the pricing a little more.
I test drove a mach e, and my deal breaker is the screen. Because its the floating tablet thing, the lower left corner is positioned perfectly... to dig into the cartilage below my kneecap. No way I can actually get one.
All very valid points and I fully agree with your recommendations for improvements. My main issue was that Ford lowered the price (10k) in Canada 4 weeks after we bought our MME Premium with extended battery. I also have an issue with the exterior trunk button because when pressed, it only opens a few inches and have to press it a second time. My other issue is that its really hot in the car when getting into the car on a warm sunny day. A wish list would be to have solar panels integrated into the glass roof. Thank you for the content.
I tried looking on your website but may have missed it, have you done a 70mph range test for the MME RWD extended range battery? I’m one of the range worriers, but also we’d like to be able to drive the 190 mile round trip to SEATAC airport in cooler months without needing to charge.
A couple of things besides the looks that the Mach-e offers and the Tesla does not. I like having a driver info screen in the Mach-e that's directly in front of the driver. Also, the Mach-e supports Apple CarPlay which in MHO is a deal breaker for the Tesla. One change I'd like to see is a subjective one and one that would require a re-design of the dash. I really like the screen layout in the 2024 Mustang (gas) or the screen layout found in the European EV Explorer (which has a movable/adjustable info screen).
Blue cruise as standard, get the suspension tuned (dare I say try Ford Europe who have a great history of making "cheap" family cars handle and ride well). Keep working on the software. And big (in stages to limit owner complaints) price cut.
price on the F-150 lightning just dropped $10,000. Do you think that the Mach-E will be doing the same? I think that having an off button should add confidence that your Mach-E will not runaway (be able to stop) like we have seen online. Also - which trim do you prefer? CA-Rt1?
They listened and fixed this in the latest FordPass app.
What's wrong with elon? U coping on his price discounts???😂😂😂

If people want the best EV experience, they buy a Tesla.

Thanks Kyle for this follow up on Mach-E - we are finally adding a second EV this week - got $13k off a new 23 Mach-E premium ex awd - this will join our existing 22 Tesla model YLR which we love!
You can already leave the AC running without keeping the car running. Just press de stop/start without pressing the breaks.
Yes let's bring on the CN brands to expedite
I bought mine specifically because it wasn't Tesla...eff Muskrat
Buying it because it's NOT a Tesla. Musk can suck it.
Silly.
The Mach E looks so much better and entirely different in person than on videos and pictures. Battleship grey with the gloss black alloys really pops.
@@SunriseLAWif you want to keep your current car longer, I highly recommend that you do NOT test drive an EV. You will want one badly.
Prices in Canada have come down and Ford seems to be offering a 4.99% loan. I might dive in finally.
Cal.
Sounds like you like what Tesla has to offer.

I've noticed a few reviewers getting ill or motion sickness from the sheer acceleration of these EV so I see where the comment about sick comes from.
Thanks!
I guess you prefer to Overpay for Ford junk because Ford Junk looks better, according to you.

19:00 - Anyone who says the Mach-E isn't a Mustang just needs to feel the suspension. :-D
Just imagine where Tesla will be by then, too - nobody else is standing still
Tesla will have their next-gen “un-boxed” platform for smaller vehicles by then.
The trouble with Ford lowering the price is that they are already losing a lot of money on every Match E they sell.
They should never called that mustang.

Yes but they overall are huge profitable as a company. Tesla was loosing money nonstop for years and funded by investors before finally turning a profit. Ford will be funded by their truck and fleet business as they scale volumes in EVs.

I think the extra slow touch screen would drive me nuts.
You can stop the honks in Forscan, but you cannot get a properly-engineered junction box through it!
Amazing

Older ford ice models I have had, you can go into the menus and turn off the horn within the settings. Not sure on the Mach E
Out here in the TMZ the dealers are over-flowing with them. Hope Ford drops their dealers and sell like Tesla.

tesla owners are confused lemmings
Thx Alyssa for pointing out the dog mode problem.
Why?
The vents in the front is made to cool the intercoolers when using the AC or charging on a hot day
Preconditioning happens with preset departure times, without lights going on.
Without software there are NO changes. The car you buy stays the same forever. Meanwhile Tesla cars get better.
The comfort issue is fixed for 2023 on Model Y. The comfort suspension is better than Mach E bouncy suspension now
The Mach-E is (arguably?) the best "divert an ICE design to EV in mid development" attempt, but it still looks (and performs) like an ICE design diverted in mid development!
@@chrisak49 see I just don’t think the MME is bouncy
@@97JoMillerYou are probably just used to the bouncy unsettled rear suspension on the Mach E.
I’m looking at buying a brand new 2022 Mach-E Premium AWD for USD 34k plus tax. I think that’s a pretty good deal to not get a Model Y.
Our cars navigate parking lots and streets and freeways much more than they do carving up and down canyons, so I'll take a safety feature any day over maximum power while driving "in a spirited manner."
The poster has made all valid points, but your fandom bias seems to prevent you from recognizing them, so you dismiss them.
Are one of the improvements getting over 4.0 mi/mWh or less than 250 Watt per mile?
Personally I like that when I'm not at home it fully charges. When at home it's set to 90%. This works great with my use case. Saying that they should add another setting that the can control for all the rest of the charging spots.
One thought/question, how will the Tesla cord reach that port? Will we see mach e’s parked sideways taking up 2 maybe 3 spaces at a Tesla station?
The MME has to pull up really far to the curb but it'll reach. There's no way for it not to block the neighboring stall for a Tesla though.
You won't see *many* blocking spaces.

If you think about it, Tesla announced 12,000 chargers available.

One thing that the Mach-E has that Tesla still hasn’t grasped (and may only do so once the EU cracks down on them)
Tactile controls for basic functions.
Try and turn on the wipers (especially in the refreshed model 3)
A basic function like that should not be something that you have to “guesstimate” where it is
It’s good that other providers are stepping up to provide ccs chargers, because the original charge point stations are unreliable to the point of being a liability in high temps.
I've had the car for a year. I've never seen this. It's not easy to find.
I think his complaint was that you couldn't set a global limit for all future charging sessions.

Pathetic actually
What the heck is Forscan? I’d like to reach out to their marketing department.

8:40 Even my GM Bolt EV will display information on the screen when you open the door. Hard to beat a $25K EV that a great all around local driver.
Blue cruise isn't even close.
@@rogerstarkey5390 You’re right, they’re not close. BlueCruise is totally hands free and FSD isn’t.
All black with a 5.0 coyote in it would be great.
Now on the used market in canada at least the price is around 36 to 48k cad where tesla model y is around 50 to 70k cad
I read that the new battery won't be good in cold climates. Is this true
There's no option to turn on the AC while not in the car to set it before you use it? Tesla already has that basic feature...
There is, at least in my CA Rt 1. I think it's standard on all trims.
I tried looking on your website but may have missed it, have you done a 70mph range test for the MME RWD extended range battery? I’m one of the range worriers, but also we’d like to be able to drive the 190 mile round trip to SEATAC airport in cooler months without needing to charge.
Also, not everyone is ready for the car to just go, I like knowing it is on or off or ready to go or not.
CA-Rt1?
I wish you would mention the video capabilities of the infotainment systems
