Great recording! The playing is always great and so is the drum itself. As someone who records drums constantly, I really admire the sound that was captured. It’s better than being in the room with it.
Just found your channel today, and I can’t get enough of your sound and musicality while you play. I also am insanely jealous of your long rolls and buzz rolls. If you wouldn’t mind, do you have any tips on how to practice/what to practice to increase the smoothness and consistency of rolls? Thanks so much! Can’t wait to watch more from you
I've never really fallen in love with a Copperphonic…………………..Until now!!! One of the best Luddys I've heard in years. You just made a strong case for Fiberskyn's on snares!. Gorgeous sound all through the range!. That low range practically made me weep!!. It's a desert island recording drum. Oh, and you're very.....very good!!
My two favorite drummers of the past 3 years. Mark Guiliana and Mr. Carter McLean. Carter, please invite Mark to your studio. I think you'd have a major UA-cam overload due to an overwhelming amount of views..
That's fatter than playing an old large inner tube from a truck tire....... great sound Carter and you have the BEST single strokes that I've ever seen or heard! Thanks and Blessings!!!
Excellent stick control, I mean really great! Even when my hands were working, (like, 25 or 30 years ago), I could only do some of that. That, and the fact that I really never mastered the match grip. I started playing back in the early 60's, (I was 8 yrs old in 64 when I started), and I learned to play with the conventional grip. Years later, I could see some advantages to the match grip but I was already pretty deeply 'programmed' for the conventional grip and never was able to acclimate to a match grip. I used the match for some real simple stuff once in a while but nothing more than that. I still play at home just to help all my joints to stay flexible and working but nowadays, arthritis in my fingers keeps me from the finesse buzz rolls and neat little tricks I used to do. It's been quite a while since I saw any really nice stick work. I have some Buddy Rich videos when he had The Rocket City Band (or did he call it The Rocket City Orchestra?). Once in a while, I'll watch some of his stuff but otherwise, I haven't seen that kind of stick-work in a long time. That copper snare is really a great sounding snare and you proved the range of versatility that it's capable of, but I have to tell you; your choice in cymbals just doesn't make it. The hats are OK, but that 'hub-cap gong' is definitely not making the trip as a ride cymbal. I would have liked to hear a lot of that drum work done with a 24" or even a 26" K-Ride. The Zildjian rides are still some of the best ride cymbals produced. About 5 years ago, I bought a townhouse, (which is interconnected to another homeowners townhouse), so I couldn't stay with acoustic drums. I had to buy an eKit so that I could control volume levels through an amp and at night, through headphones. It's a rather large kit with dual kicks, 4 toms and snare, and 5 cymbals, (e-cymbals). I much prefer acoustic drums and it's the first and only electric drum kit I ever owned and played, (great for home recording and practice, but I'd never take it on stage). The module is an RBM-20 Pearl RED Box, which offered great versatility for a module in that price range. My point is that I've spent hours, over a period of weeks, trying to dial in the 26" Zildjian ride cymbal's characteristics and never was able to get the sound the way I remembered it 'back in the day'. Maybe some of the newer drum module technology can pull it off. Anyway, I just realized that I'm slipping off topic, so even though I didn't care for the cymbal selection, the demo was great! Thanks, Rich
Solid grooves. What I like about this is that you can pick one of these up for around $800 and they still sound better than some of the copper or brass snares that cost $300-$500 more.
Carter! Love your videos. I can’t speak for everyone but I know I’d absolutely love to see a video of you showcasing all of your ‘toys’ ie different/unique sticks/brushes, your shakers, those steampunk looking things. Sort of like your cymbal demo videos but with your toys. Who cares - love your playing bye forever!!
Actually just a Bass player enjoying your playing. Have you ever thought of uploading these in podcast format to platforms such as spotify? I'd love to listen to these on the go, just concentrating on the sounds, learning about the differences in sound between pieces of drum equipment. Cheers. Keep it up.
I think I like the raw brass snare better. This one seems pretty dry and can do a lot at all kinds of tuning ranges, but that raw brass just has such sweet and cutting overtones. Copper for the job interview, raw brass for the house party.
At 5:54 sweet left hand roll.very nice.I just love stuff like that. All this man needs is a snare a pair of hats and a bass drum. What a wonderful technique.!!!
Copper is awesome! Got a Starphonic from tama for 399 used.Loud but a fatness and smooth highs. Also kind of alumium but more lows and great snare wire response too.
I think I've watched this demo at least 4 times, super tasty playing and amazing sound out of this drum... so much so that I just ordered one, it's the swiss army knife of snare drums!
I’m eagerly awaiting my fed ex delivery right now. Ordered the hammered version of this snare. Thanks for the demonstration Carter! Ludwig artist of the year 🥇
This is insaaaaneeee! Thank you for this pure enjoyment. Here i stayed not only because of the Ludwig Snare haha :P Please Carter McLean, could you tell the rest of your kits set up? Personal favorit was your High Hat. Loved it! Awesome suitable groove also
Amazing demonstration, and the production is sublime! I'm going to pull the trigger on this drum - Carter - would you consider the tube lugs to be a must have?
Carter, Great vid! Saw your clinic in Chicago at Vic's. It is now closed by the way. I won the Black Magic snare in the raffle. Anyhoo, are your sticks made of maple?
Dyno-mite!! Great sounds all around! Do you think this would do super tight and dry low tunings? Also what are your sizes on your kit? Thanks for a great vid!
1:23 Mario Bros Fill!
Epic!

Digging the sounds AND the grooves!
Your single strokes always blow my mind

I’m a simple man I see a carter McClean video and press like before it’s even started to load
Fantastic snare. Ludwig snares are just at another level. It’s like they’re laced with pixie dust or something 😊
Ha!!!!!! As a 30 plus years Ludwig player,I find this comment absolutely true and hilarious 😂
If I had to pick ONE snare.... this would be it
Totally agree!
can't go wrong with a good old ludwig.
Not your signature snare instead? Hmmm...
Is that 6.5 x 14" ?
Also, did you put those custom lugs on? Those aren't the standard Ludwig lugs. These look nice...
This guy could make a 40 $ millennium snare sound awesome
we can all do that. i can. you can.
right!..... but maybe he is further on the way to control sound, more advanced.....and a little sophisticated.......
*cough* rdavidr *cough**cough*
@@polyduckwanaland He's good, but nowhere near as NASTY as this guy is. This is a chops masterclass.
Michael NESTROGEN Raisner yea your right. I had just only just discovered this guy tho
the hihat and the stand look and sound awesome too !
Ludwig makes such great snare drums !!!
Your demo videos are so tasteful that they should be on a high class restaurant menu.
You are indeed the Dynamic's Wizard...
Great recording!

Dang that thing sounds good. Tasty playing too!!
I have a copper snare (AK) and I love the sound of these drums. The Ludwig offering of copper is extraordinary. And well played. Thanks.

Nobody gonna talk about this epic pairing between Kick and Snare.
As I'm typing he hit that left hand roll.
Eff this dude
Lol.
The snare sounds so good!
That single dislike on the video is from the guy you bought this snare from, I guess
Matteo Bussotti nah... it’s the one guy that likes a Lars Ulrich signature snare. But hey Carter could make even that snare sound great!!!!!
It's from the snare itself. Would you like getting a beating like that if you were that drum?
I love the tone of the bass drum

Fyi, the bronze supra can be had for nearly the same price at the same size
One of my “most desired” snares on my list.
Great sound and playing!
Tasty vid! Sweet copper snare, super sweet playing. Very entertaining performance.
I've played this snare, and fell in love. After about an hour of nobody helping me at GC, I left w/out it.
The first one is my favorite sound

Some lucky SOB on Reddit got one of these in like-new condition, for like 3 or 400 bucks at Guitar Center the other day.
I think I saw that
I just picked one up for $400
Just a masterpiece sound and performance...
A week ago I said... "I gotta get one." Now I got one!!! 🎼🎵🎶🥁 Thanks for the sound sample and great playing! Drum on ✊😎👍
Matt Cox can I ask for a quick review now you’ve got the drum? As good as it sounds hear?

Great idea, I'm tired of putting on a UA-cam video to listen to some grooves on my way to work in the morning.
There's more feel in those strokes than in a Catholic Church backroom.
Ouch!!!

Sweet Jesus!
I would add a like but it's at 69.
HAHAHAHAHA
Your playing is always stellar.

I roll with a Yamaha copper drum. It's a crazy good metal for snares. Bite with quite a lot of tone still.

Yep Carter you could make a wet pillow sound great, but this snare is extremely good!
I almost wept at that single stroke crescendo around 4:50. That is some stone cold technique (and dynamics). I gotta get practicing!
Fantastic!
Wonderful sounding drum and beautiful playing.
Great video! I am thinking of getting one of these. I definitely like the low and medium tunings the best.
Very cool drumming! See some nice WFL in the background.
Oh my, this is so nice. Great gear and awesome drumming. Thanks
more like a demo of that pocket we know and love...
Jeez man , All of these demos sound incredible
How about a quick video on tuning ?
cheers !
Cherr Lloyd I do an hour tuning demo at my educational site fourhandsdrumming.com

Yup. Keep messing around with it.
My favorite tip if i was to give one is: use two keys.

That clutch
Mark Finlay sweet spot clutches
They make alllll kinds

Loving the drummer, good skills.
I just had to get one - got it with copper hardware, too. I know it's going to be awesome, I love my Black Beauty.
Wow. Snare drum sounds great. But your sticking is amazing. Single stroke 🎶🎶😊
Oh man, does that sound goooooorgeous🤤🤤🤤.

Can I come over and just sit and listen? I'll bring beer - nothing more nothing less. I might throw a couple compliments though.
Radio Ga Ga's snare!
