Carter McLean teaching and dazzling minds at Stickman Drum Experience 2016. Thank you Carter for letting me film this extremely valuable and entertaining information!
Man his touch behind a drum kit is out of this world. I found Carter a few years ago scouring UA-cam as a very new drummer (I’ve played guitar for twenty years), and I’ve been hooked since.
Rose Crawley it was at a camp with limited spots, but this was only about a third of the attendees. We were split up and attending different classes at different times. There were other incredible drummers doing classes and workshops.
This is 2 years late, but I've been leaning this, and I've found the best way to do it is get a metronome in 5/4 and get comfortable playing R L L over it without accents. Then add in the accents as slow as you need and built it up. You've probably already tried this though lol
Nice stuff I learned a great left hand and right hand exercise from the great Thomas Pridgen called Egg Beaters which is RRLLL or LLRRR or RRRLL or LLLRR Try this five stroke exercise it’s a challenge
Hey, not everyone is a teacher. I don't think teaching what he is doing is his strength. but that is completely fine. For people that learn by hearing and watching, it really only matters that you can get a close up of what he is doing
I generally find music tuition and ‘de-mystifying’ useless. There are a negligible amout of artists. None of them got good by watching UA-cam videos or memorising other people’s licks. They’re just better than you
Calling Carter McLean an “adequate drummer” is like calling Albert Einstein an “adequate physicist”. Give me a break! His pocket is deeper than you could dream of venturing. He is also a great clinician because he is very warm, personal and approachable. He uses everyday analogies to relate to his audience on all levels. Your post says more about you than Carter. SMH

Why isn’t the roomed filled with people to listen to this great musician?

Dang bro. He still responds

I like his drumming and he seems like a super chill, humble guy.
12:03 - even when he tries to play without dynamics it still sounds better than anything I've ever played in my life, lol
here here brother lol
One of..if not , the best drummer around at the moment.
nate smith is great too... just for an input.
HAHAHAH. Sure.
Maybe
This guy practices what he preaches: playing with feel !
Could sit and listen to him for hours. Good stuff!
I want that snare drum now 😂
Seriously, my brain refuses to accept a RLL pattern on 3/4 with accents on 5s. Carter makes it look so easy... And when he uses his feet? Damn.
When you learn the hand motions the pattern plays itself. When you feel it in your hands the ears will follow.

I had to learn it as a repeating pattern of 15 beats, 5 sets of the 3 RLL hits. Learn it slow, then play it faster: (R)LL RL(L) RLL R(L)L RLL
Such a good drummer
Great stuff. As always with Carter... thanks for sharing this man.
Maestro!!!!
Thanks for sharing priceless information🙏🏼
One of the Giants!

Really bad explanation ,it's almost as he rather chooses to confuse everyone instead of teaching them something .
He’s speaking to drummers, not jet pilots. They know exactly what he’s talking about. If you’re confused, you’re not a drummer.
Adequate drummer but what a lousy clinician.
