Turned it off after 30 minutes, another arty farty annoying film like the majority of horror films this year. The First Omen, Immaculate all utter garbage. I agree 100% about the camera angles, the close ups of the actors which annoyed me so much along with the annoying characters. I'll try and give it another go but I just looks like a film that's not for me. Never liked Demi Moore so I'm going to have to force myself to sit through the entire film. Give me the straight horror films from the 60s, 70s and 80s any day over the trash that's put out now. It's all about camera technique to make one uneasy to disguise the poor storyline, lack of interesting characters and every frame has to be a work of modern art. Watched Apartment 7 last night and it's the same bs that everyone else is doing.
I’ve been a loyal follower of this channel since its inception, when you probably had around 500 followers. I’m incredibly proud of the journey this channel has taken over the years. It’s a beautiful thing to see this channel grow, I trust your JUDGMENT!
I haven't looked thru laced fingers feet on the seat in a while. When it was over I asked the woman in front of me if she was all right. She answered PTSD "I don't know I don't know!'' I left feeling I had a full movie experience more than in a long while.
0:12 FACTS! This was amazing! A film like this hasn't been in theaters since The Thing. The editing reminds me of a bunch of different Kubrick films and Requiem for a Dream which it's editing was inspired by Kubrick ❤
The finale worked for me. Demi is a 61-year-old playing a 50-year-old trying to be a forty-year-old. This movie is about feminine narcissism. Hollywood is an enabler - but Elizabeth does it to herself..... It's more about self-destruction and the need for external validation. A lot of people miss this. It's also the same consciousness. Not a twin or a different person. Good review!
Ambitious, daring, and executed to perfection. The only thing that will stop this winning major awards is the genre that it sits in 🤔 I’m still thinking about it nearly a week later 😬
I am so glad you watched this! I saw it and was like "What would Joe think of this?" It is definitely an experience. I thought it was going to be a psychological thriller with some horror aspects. But from the first transformation scene, I knew I was in for a wild ride. Practical effects, great shots, fitting soundtrack, just ticked a lot of the boxes for me. Ending was over the top, but I find that fitting, considering the things we see people do for that fountain of youth perfection. I wanted to see it again, but it was gone so quickly. Definitely one of my top films of the year.
This is the second film of Corralie Fargeat, her first movie that came out in 2017 is aptly named Revenge and is about a group of French guys (one of them is Belgian actually) who go on a hunting trip in Arizona US, and the Belgian guy has his mistress (the beautiful Matilda Lutz) and one of the guys lusts a little too much about her and they try to get rid of her so after left for dead she comes back in badass mode. Do watch it, you'll see that Fargeat has a style of her own, both in narrative and cinematography, as well as a clear but not preachy feminist message and a penchant for extreme gore. In short, great rape-revenge film, totally worth the watch.
I loved Revenge. I love how this FIlm Maker makes her movies with sex and great body horror. Its like watching updated Giallo movies. LIke Dario Argento movies with great acting and action and body horror.
I was completely surprised by the third act. It definitely had an impact on me. Demi Moore is fantastic in it, quite a performance she gives here and certainly different from what she normally does. Sound design and photography are excellent. You are right this movie is an experience. Strongly recommend it!
Grew up with The Exorcist, The Thing Evil Dead, Event Horizon The Fly,. And all the assorted Zombie movies and cable shows. Lest we forgot all the David Cronenberg stuff including, Crimes of the Future in 2022. The body horror here was interesting but, Meh. Demi Moore's performance was stellar. The sequence of Demi not being able to leave the house for her date was the scariest part of the movie.
Similar to the 3rd act of Love Lies Bleeding. I appreciated the Filmmaker taking a bold and artistic swing. The monster was a conglomeration of all of Elizabeths flaws. And ultimately her star burned out and she was deluded into the Star on the street, symbolic to me of the term "Washed up". I loved this movie and appreciated you're review with some of the excellent editing. onwards and upwards.
@@REELSHIFT like you said "less is more". (SPOILER FOR ANYONE WHO HAS NOT SEEN THE MOVIE; DO NOT READ) I actually thought the ending would have hit harder had only the ONE tooth come out, and then she had to go on-stage and watch how the crowd turned on her after her missing tooth was revealed; that to me would have had more of an impact. The route they took turned it into a comedy.
How is it that I just watched "The Shining" (I know, how even for a horror fan whose been seeing lots of this stuff allowed too at probably too young of an age lol). But, I legit was not ready for it to be...horrifying. Edge of my seat scary af. And it's more "artsy" than most horror films and pulls it off entirely. 9.5 out of 10 for me! Even when it was almost inciting jumpiness with the score and atmosphere too. Body horror aside, which I have no issue with (and yes to practical effects). Jack Nicholson did come off a bit crazy b4 the bad stuff started, but even if unintentional, I think it still mostly works because the plot basically allows it too( (what the minus .5 is for). I think I am definitely going to catch this own soon!
She divides, but she is the same. Notice she lives alone and has no family. She put 100% of her time and energy into herself and her career only. Forget old men and their lustful desires for pretty youth. The story is a fable of a sort. A warning in this modern age of body reconstruction.
of course she has family and friends, she has probably been married and divorced, she even has children probably, but these are not shown in the film to convey her loneliness and isolation.
Enjoyed it till the end.I get the message behind it and it's HEAVY sleazy sums up Hollyweird perfectly for both young and old women.Dennis Quaid is a hoot too 😂
we are living in a great time for horror. i didn't like your use of the phrase "elevated" to be honest. if you are a man of the people, this elitist phrase does not suit you at all.
@@REELSHIFT ha ha ha ha, okay. i am a horror fan, this phrase bothers me, whoever made this up can't be a horror fan. this means that horror movies are generaly bad but sometimes good ones come out.

Not gonna lie. I have to agree with u on that. It was a lil over kill n got tedious n predictable in the end. Ppl r exaggerating about how gory it is. It is gory but seriously cmon. Has no one seen terrifier?
Just as I thought, it's like Cronenberg did a pretentious remake of The Nutty Professor. Though with a lower budget this could also have been an interesting episode of Tales from the Crypt, which might have been a bit more pleasant to watch.
To me it was like a glorified pretentious asmr, with a very loud and anoying last scene. And, this is really tied to my experience, ppl dont know how to react to awkwardness so they just laughed at the last scene when she is looking in the mirror. Awful experience. The movie meh.
Pointless gore just because rather than basically stylized or creative approach (like the shining), it's just there to be there. Honestly that's still not impossible to pull off, like how much I wish there was an uncut version of Friday The 13th: The New Blood (or without the deleted footage looking poor) with Tom Savini's makeup work too, it'd go from being probably the most underrated Kane hodder jason film to being much closer in value to all the favorites from everyone.
@oneandonlysound3453 Good example. I love the original Hellraiser because to me it does gore in an artistic way that feels appropriate for the story being told... On the flip side you have the Terrifier movies which don't offer anything of substance and tries to distract you by being as sadistic as possible
@@REELSHIFT I'd actually say both Hellraiser 1 and 2 are good examples of going a bit artsy and/or more stylish and succeeding. I know you only mentioned the OG, but I think they are both equally good in their own way. Funny how artistic horror seems to work out better than other genres, probably because they aren't spending too much time trying to get awards that are like 90% a total joke lol. We need more of this and less "somehow, they returned" or "all style no or little substance."
@@Scareafier I didn't say it was a masterpiece, I have a masterpiece rating tier... I gave this the rating 2 tiers down from that, I liked it... didn't love it

That's the point! She destroys herself. I'll take that deeper meaning over oh it's about beauty standards. It's in my top 3. Just for Fargeat, having balls of steel!
