She plays Juliette exactly as I imagined her. The sequence where she is trying to cross into IT is brilliant. It might be slow-paced but it's important to show just how determined and resourceful she is. Honestly this is turning out to be the best book adaptation I've seen in a very long time.

I enjoyed it so far, but something that didn't make sense was her giving up so easily on that mysterious door that she had never seen before. So she tried so hard to get there and she didn't explore enough to see that room? Went back because she heard some noises and then she's just leaving like nothing was important about that? My opinion.
You nailed it when you said "we realize how well we know this character." The combination of smart writing and Ferguson's deeply honest and nuanced performance makes me feel like I've known her for years. Can't wait to see where they take the season!
I watched this on my OLED TV, and my wife came into the room and asked if the TV was even on. This is the darkest episode of TV I've ever seen where I had to turn off all lights and close the doors. Other than that it was a decent season opener.
Unfortunately people need to be okay with the slow burn, as someone who has read all the books, there is a reason for it, and it’s not necessarily TV dragging things out. The point is as far as we know there is only one character who knows everything, and even he might not know everything, everybody else is literally in an information silo as well as a literal silo. So the exploration is them trying to put together what the hell is going on. If that was done and found out too easily then it loses something because clearly it wasn’t that elaborate. When in actuality, it’s very elaborate, And it deserves time to be taken to unravel it all. I promise you it will be worth it in the end.
Having read the books - i'm interested to see how true they stay to them. If this is the pacing they are going to follow, I'll be out after episode 2 though. There was no new character development in this episode. We all know Juliette is a skilled engineer who can make do and solve problems........and has "been on the outside" from relationships perspective......so not sure what value this episode brought, especially considering how much ground they need to cover if season 2 is going to be book 2. have a feeling I'll be dropping off after episode 2 if they don't deviate from the books in anyway as the slow pacing combined with knowing the outcomes makes this a boring watch.

I think the first episode would have been more impactful if we didn’t know from the trailer that she finds Steve Zahn’s character at the end. Knowing she’s not actually alone in there is what made it boring to me. One thing I am not sure on is whether the rebels deliberately flooded the generator or was the silo failing and the generator flooding was a consequence of that? Did the rebellion cause the breakdown or was the rebellion caused by the breakdown and everyone realizing that they were going to die anyway.
This guy seemed to miss out a part in flashback where sherif is asked "but what if hes lying" by his wife right after talking about opening the door to the outside. The sherif responds with "then we're all dead anyways" which seems to somewhat confirm the Silo was indeed failing
If you remember beginning of season 1 the silo she was in before is often very close to failing so she’s basically now seeing what’s going to happen if it fails or is flooded by rebellion either way.
I really wish they didn't waste time on flashbacks from her child hood. I was like 'I don't care. Lets move the story along!'. I guess she'll be back to her Silo of birth at one point.
The folks who didn’t enjoy this are the types that need an entire season to binge at once. Knowing you have to wait for the payoff subconsciously screws with your attention span. This season is about to get nuts. The 2nd half of the book was so rewarding.
i remember the first season and it was so great and so curious bout whats gonna happen next. the first ep is literally her walking and just dragging the whole thing and showing a cringe moment at the end. so please the quality really dropped stop defending and call what is cringe as cringe dont be a blind fanboi
Yes but the nanobots must always be there. They have to be activated or deactivated. When Juliette left the silo, there was a very specific order to her actions. She did not clean. She was given the wool, not just any random bit of rag, to clean the sensor. I'd guess the wool is either a catalyst for the reaction with the nanobots, or maybe it's made of a specific material that activates a switch behind the sensor. Juliette skipped that. Then she had to touch the rock to switch off the visual feed to her helmet?
In the flashbacks, Walker made it clear that in the down deep they speak plainly and to the point. This is an indication that Juliette developed her directness from her environmental (the down deep) and mentor AKA Walker.
So glad you're covering this show again. Would you consider doing a spoiler segment at the end of each video for book readers? There's already so much to address for book readers that can't be talked about without spoiling things for everyone else
I’m calling it now on flashbacks when saw Julie fixing the radio and then season one. She was using it to communicate with a friend. I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be another radio in the new silo so I wish you could tell everybody that she’s alive.
It was fun to learn that the surface is indeed toxic and that the people trying to keep everyone inside of the Silos are kind of justified. It would, however, be beneficial if surface structures connecting silos were built to expand their gene pools.
Because of you I read the books. Do you think they'll somehow tie Shift & Dust together? I get the audience may have been thrown off if they did Shift for this season.
Pete, a great recap, as usual. I look forward to your recaps and breakdown of the upcoming season. But one favor if you happen to read this. Please warn us if you’re going to include any book boilers. One of the things I enjoyed about season one is I had not read the books and had no idea what was coming. I want to keep it that way for season two. So just let us know ahead of time if you’re gonna venture into Books boilers. Thanks and looking forward to the season breakdowns.
What if the outside air is SO toxic that those bodies were only a few weeks or months old? And that rebellion would have pretty much just happened. Far fetched because of the overgrowth within the silo but just a thought! It could be more recent than people are theorizing...
This episode's pace is in step with the book, so it was nice to watch it develop. But I also think the bridge was a bit of a time waster. Other than that, it's looking good so far and I hope it deals with the coming stories in the books with the same degree of faithfulness to the core material. Could be interesting.
Petey! It's a been a loooooooong hiatus. Knew you'd be back for Silo2: The Resiloing. I love a good Indiana Jones ep. Archeology of ancient things past, some known, some not, really hits me in the good place. Silo 2 off to a rearing start! I'd spend the season just watchin Juliette explore.
I think that vault he’s in, is the room behind the server room, the most important room in the Silo. (Where Bernard watches Juliette’s helmet cam the trailer. I realized after watching Bernard walk into that room with judge Meadows in the “Rebellion” trailer on Tv+. In both instances, the room is entered by entering a key locked door followed by the server room, then a vault door to the final room. Also, you can see “We’ll get in sooner or later” on the back wall. I wonder what the room is for (besides looking at Juliette’s helmet cam).
I found this episode to be a triumph of a resourceful - an extremely clever - engineer’s approach to a set of obstacles. The added nuance that the engineer was a woman made the episode even more compelling. My only quibble - which I totally understand was a necessity - was the oh-too-convenient lighting in the adjacent silo. With the generator useless from the deliberate flooding, you’d think the silo would be completely dark after the long period of time, amirite?
Well I suppose a flashback is one way of dealing with a chunk of Book 2. That basically had nothing to do with Silo 18. I wonder how they’ll deal with the really long ago flashback…..
That was a clove hitch which can be used for belaying and it was secured with a half hitch to avoid undoing by movement. It tightens under load, quite safe. The rope was cut as shown later.
If u noticed the new silo the rooms were painted with waving lines and artistic motifs and it appears the ppl had way more creative freedom🎉 than the original silo.
From a mechanical perspective, Juliette is terrible at coming up with DIY solutions. Her entire life has been about finding solutions, so you would expect that something as simple as finding a way across a gap would be trivial for her. Yet, it seems she deliberately makes foolish decisions to shock the audience. Let’s name a few examples: 1. She comes up with the idea to climb down using a rope from the upper bridge. Instead of untying the knots, she cuts the rope. Then she proceeds to tie the rope to the middle of the bridge rather than at the end, which would have saved her from needing to swing. Even if she had to swing, for the rope to snap from a little friction with the bridge, it would have had to be incredibly weak. 2. She decides to build a bridge, tying a rope to one end to swing the bridge to the other side. So far, so good. However, rather than using the rope to support the middle of the bridge (which would make the bridge 4x stronger), she assumes it is strong enough on its own. She starts walking across, but after a while, the bridge begins to collapse. Normally, you would go back and reinforce the bridge. She has all the materials she could need and as much time as she wants. Instead, she decides to risk her life to get to the other side, probably saving only 30 minutes.
Anyone noticed that Apple changed the aspect ratio of season 2 episode wherein season 1 had a bigger screen which elevates the experience to watch a sci-fi show. Apple started cost cutting, the same way they did with Foundation S2. Do like the comment if you’ve also noticed it!
6:47 i dont thin the rope was untied, i think more or less they want to show that the rope was frayed by the conrete and snapped, but based off the thickness of the rope it would take more than that for the concrete to eat through it. so maybe someone cut it? but i feel juliette would have noticed another presence in the vault.
MY hand slip. watching the episode right now, its the guy who was dangling from the rope. the leader guy they captured him they put a noose around his neck threating him to tell secrets and either he didnt tell him wanted they wanted to hear. my thinking the rope/noose was their way of excution
I was thinking they didn't flood it on purpose but that water table was flooding there lower levels. The situation pushed them to want to get out because facing death anyway.
By the time the kid handed the note from engineering on the bottom level saying "the generator will flood in 15 minutes" it had probably already flooded lol so braindead
People found this episode boring!? This was mindblowing the way The Martian was in showing necessity being the mother of invention. She scienced the crap out of this episode! Giving us the flashbacks gave us two levels of storytelling. Oof
since the silo is flooded how is there power and life support in this silo? I may be wrong but I thought the generator is lower than the point the water has reached. Wouldn't that lead to the power at least being dead?
Having read the books I found it interesting, like Pete said not knowing what she’s thinking makes it difficult to understand her choices. Short of spoilers I hope the next episodes will make it all clearer (including some departures from the books)
this ep gave me the tomb raider feel, or like a game where she needs to solve the puzzle. very good start of season 2 the only question i have is why the air inside is not toxic or at least partly toxic
I wonder what happened to the governor of that silo or the folks in the control room who watched every one. They should know what it's really like outside
I can't help but to think this ends with the silos communicating and making more suites to walk between silos. If I was Juliette I would've had to walk to a couple more Silos and waved at the people.
I think if they’d realized the first two episodes at the same time this would be a great first episode. But I’m super pissed I have to wait another week for the show to finally get started
Glad this show is back! But the one thing from this episode I don’t understand is, why did she attempt to enter the one silo with thousands of dead bodies around it? From the end of season 1, we know there were a bunch of silos-why not approach their cameras to engage with those living inhabitants?

Same bruh the rope its 40 years old
That was a clove hitch which can be used for belaying and it was secured with a half hitch to avoid undoing by movement. It tightens under load, quite safe. The rope was cut as shown later.
@@themultiverse4108Is he?😮
Well for Pete’s PEPPERS!!!!!!
If the pace of the next episodes stayed the same the whole season would be a disaster
Great episode and start to season 2! Just finished the episode and came straight here ha
Let’s name a few examples:
Yeah, also using polyethylene material to bind metal pieces having so many ropes. lol. that looked so silly.
Agree it would've been nice to drop the 2nd episode. But, I guess this is a good hook.
I’m at shock with the whole people in the beginning damn that’s sad
The rope broke due to being old, dry rotted and abrasion from rubbing on the concrete. Caused it to snap
Gave me lost vibes when they found the hatch
The knot she tied originally, the tail end was super short, not trustworthy, but then the next shot the tail end was 2 feet long lol.
Great to see the top ad under this video is the Peppers Silo Launceston hotel 😂😂
Anyone noticed that Apple changed the aspect ratio of season 2 episode wherein season 1 had a bigger screen which elevates the experience to watch a sci-fi show. Apple started cost cutting, the same way they did with Foundation S2. Do like the comment if you’ve also noticed it!
I noticed that too. I was sad to see that, season 1 looked so good with that aspect ratio
Bad Apple 😢
Pete u legit bro!
LOVE IT! Juliette is a combination MacGyver with Jason Bourne and Black Widow!
Well she didn't consciously... until she found out
MY hand slip. watching the episode right now, its the guy who was dangling from the rope. the leader guy they captured him they put a noose around his neck threating him to tell secrets and either he didnt tell him wanted they wanted to hear. my thinking the rope/noose was their way of excution
The show did a great job of putting the view into the shoes of someone having to explore these other creepy Silos.
The series reminds me of "Lost" series. They keep pilling mysteries over mysteries. Hope they don't suffer the fate of Lost.
You dont know where the kid came from though...
People found this episode boring!? This was mindblowing the way The Martian was in showing necessity being the mother of invention. She scienced the crap out of this episode! Giving us the flashbacks gave us two levels of storytelling. Oof
❤
since the silo is flooded how is there power and life support in this silo? I may be wrong but I thought the generator is lower than the point the water has reached. Wouldn't that lead to the power at least being dead?
For reasons that contain spoilers.
Yes. Good observation. Now take this thought and think it through.... What is the implication for the serverroom still having power...
Loved this episode
Metoo
i liked the first season very much, but i was sooo bored with this first episode. hopefully it gets better in the future...
Not to mention the unrealism of the things she pulls off.
Having read the books I found it interesting, like Pete said not knowing what she’s thinking makes it difficult to understand her choices. Short of spoilers I hope the next episodes will make it all clearer (including some departures from the books)
He’s bacckkk
this ep gave me the tomb raider feel, or like a game where she needs to solve the puzzle.
very good start of season 2
the only question i have is why the air inside is not toxic or at least partly toxic
Love the show. Love the actress.
solid first episode
I wonder what happened to the governor of that silo or the folks in the control room who watched every one. They should know what it's really like outside
you're fast already a video !
I think he mention his hand slipping to show us when the condition that Billings has started.
I thought that was Steve Zahn, I love that guy
I can't help but to think this ends with the silos communicating and making more suites to walk between silos. If I was Juliette I would've had to walk to a couple more Silos and waved at the people.
I really think that silo is a show about population control what if its only Georgia that has silos and the rest of the world is just okay 😂😂😂
In some ways you are correct, but not quite there.
So the air was poison then but I wonder if it still is. Great show.
I think if they’d realized the first two episodes at the same time this would be a great first episode. But I’m super pissed I have to wait another week for the show to finally get started
I hope they are setting the stage for some really dark plot twists.
Glad this show is back! But the one thing from this episode I don’t understand is, why did she attempt to enter the one silo with thousands of dead bodies around it? From the end of season 1, we know there were a bunch of silos-why not approach their cameras to engage with those living inhabitants?
Her air was running out. She didn't have time.
Probably a good chance they wouldn't want to let her in either.
This was the kind of episode that leaves me with a lot of questions that I don't want answers. Why was I even excited for it?
episode 1 breakdown: jessica try to create some bridges and stuff and she fail but at the end she succeed yeees alot of things happened in this episode
Thanks for pointing out the rope might have been cut, I didn’t notice that at all. Maybe the guy behind the door can get out, or there are others around watching 🤷🏻
When I went back to watch a second time I noticed there's a shot where she holds up the rope and looks at it. Worth checking out if you missed it.
