I felt like the satanic stuff was so disappointing. Like too easy of an explanation. "Can't think of a creative way to explain how this happens? Well, let's just say it's satan."
While I agree it was disappointing, I didn’t get the vibe that it was because they couldn’t explain it. I think they set it up like it was going to have a different explanation, but it was definitely meant to end the way it did. It’d be cooler if something smart had happened, but I honestly think they were going for a satanic element the whole time rather than use it as a solution
@anotheryoutubeuser5379 they definitely were. I had to watch the movie twice to notice the Devil just hiding in the background of scenes. Just goes to show his influence on the main character from the very beginning
Ok let me explain the point of the movie cuz its legit one of my faves, I agree that the movie isn't very overt and much of the scary stuff is in the subtext. But imo, this story is a metaphor. We have Lee, "the daughter", Ruth "the mother", longlegs "the father", "the house" (which represents goodness), and "the man downstairs", which is evil or the devil. Long legs, the megalomaniac, kills girls on or surrounding their 9th birthday. He gives the girls family a choice, "to submit and bow down way way down" or " destroy the doll and destroy yourself". This means the girl must be killed on her 9th birthday, in order to prevent her from getting older and loosing her innocence. Its a metaphor on how, in some religions and societies, it is viewed better to die young than live "sinfully", especially by the misogynist father who cannot accept the girls growth. Harker has been protected from longlegs because her mom shields her from him... like many mothers are forced to do to protect children from their fathers. In turn, she enables him for her protection (helps kill the other children) and is therefore a part of it - although it is not her fault. Therefore Lee has been spared from the man downstairs (longlegs physically lives below them in the basement). When longlegs says her house is "white, the whitest i have ever seen" it refers to her innocent soul - which has darkened since - but is still bright. Carrie Anne (who wakes up after her doll is removed from the floor and its eyes are opened) is a survivor, yet represented as "evil" in her adulthood, while Lee (who has been told where to look) is reffered to as an angel. When Lee and Carrie anne's mothers say they "bled them up too much" and lee's mother says "I allowed you to live, it is a cruel cruel world, especially for little girls." They are also referencing how women are viewed as evil. When longlegs says 'Do not be afraid of a little bit of dark because you are the dark' talking to one of the dolls (a representation of a child) - he is referencing how society views maturing women as Jezebels and evil. At the end of the day, I dont think longlegs himself was the evil, he just brought out the evil in the fathers (who were ALWAYS the perpetrators of the murders), for example the captains daughter (before longleg's face is even known) tells Lee that her dad makes her keep a bunch of old stuff, "because he doesn't want her to grow up too fast." Therefore the fathers do "the dirty work" work that gets dirty as it cleans, in an attempt to hold onto purity. I think its also a metaphor for how a secret (longlegs) kept within the family can destroy it, as Osgood perkins father was secretly gay but this was hidden from the family (maybe with his moms knowledge)? Honestly great movie in the subtext imo - and i dont think its "just satan" but more of a metaphor of what people will do to keep perceived purity. The end of the movie when Lee is being influenced by the doll might also mean the cycle continues and is too overpowering to break.
There's a lot of depth of information in this movie, which I wasn't able to notice at first. However, the breakdown from The Vile Eye really helped me.
they’re are movies meant to scare you and movies that are meant to more so creep you out and unnerve you, this movie is definitely the later but promotion made it seem like it would be the former
Longlegs and spiderlegs were my nicknames in high school because my legs, arms and fingers were and still are disproportionately long in comparison to the rest of my body. Since I was very into cryptids I loved it and very much enjoyed my status as the local slenderman. Can’t imagine what might’ve happened if this movie came out back then.
I didn't see any of the trailers to hype me up. Didn't have any expectations going in watching this. Came out confused by the the corny twist at the end, still disturbed by the movies vibe, and amazed when I found out it was Nicholas cage under that makeup.
I took my daughter to see this and we both loved it. Mika’s anxiety felt so incredibly real. The abysmal atmosphere completely engulfs you. And that part where Longlegs was screaming in the car mimicking the young girl in the store, stood out to me because it was so sudden and unhinged. Everything was unnerving. It was great.
The movie was god awful, wasnt even scary, plus they had so many scenes of “drama” and scary music when the main character is by herself . It away such a waste of time.
@@randombropros9622thank you! Everyone is going to pretend to like this movie because it appears artsy. It was boring, dull, made no sense. All of a sudden at the end people are saying Hail Satan. One of the worst movies I've ever seen

I'd like to think that both films are in the same universe, where Satan doesn't have any major plans of world domination and is just out to mess with people
Lots of mixed feelings about this one, especially the 3rd act. The feeling of dread and anxiety throughout was incredibly well done, and I thought Mika Monroe and Cage were really great. It did feel a bit like they couldn’t quite tie all the threads together at the end so they just chalked everything up to Satan. Don’t get me wrong, the “blink and you miss it” glimpses of Satan sprinkled in were so creepy and really added to the tension. I’m not personally sure what other direction they could have taken, but “uhhh it’s the devil!” feels a little underwhelming.
Pisses me off how most horror movies now are marketed as "scariest movie since x" or "cinema goers literally vomited and passed out trying to watch this" because it never lives up to that ridiculous hype
I swear comments like these are so bizarre. Are you a NPC? Why do ppl state the same fucking thing the video states than some how amass likes? Like wtf. Dead internet theory is real.
@enoughabouteve maybe I'll clarify for once. Your comment is almost word for word pulled from the sentence spoken in the video. Than it garners likes. So, no original thought? Tik tok caused brain rot where you hear a statement than parot it assuming it was an original idea? Now, let's say you're the exception, have you never seen it either? With 60% of online traffic being bots nowadays you can't tell if it's a bot, or someone with such massive brain rot and the inability to have one's own original thought is flabbergasting lmfao. Call it what you will.
Nic cage mentioned in an interview that his character is a former glam Rock star and his face is the result of bad plastic surgery to try stay relevant! Cool little detail
This movie COULD HAVE BEEN one of the great horror films of ALL-TIME! But, instead of developing Longlegs as a character, they just used him as a side-show freak. This was a huge missed opportunity. If you have an inquisitive mind, you can't HELP but thinking: - How did he get this power? - How does the brain/orb work? - WHAT IS UP WITH HIS FACE? - How exactly does the doll take-over the family? - What was his past like? - Why is the devil helping him? - What is his reward for doing all this? Maybe they'll do a sequel, given the success of this film.
All those questions is what makes it great for me. I don't want everything tied up in a neat little bow with movies like these. I want to think about wtf I just watched and to philosophize on it. Maybe watch a slasher or something instead if you want to shut your mind off and have everything spoon fed to you.
That's not really how movies work, for this amount of world building you probably want a show or a videogame For this amount of *in your face* world building, because as other comments have pointed out, some of these details are in the movie, they're just not at the forefront
I agree. With how great the promo and trailers did for this film. They could of had a masterpiece. But there just isn't any character development for Lee or longlegs. Lee is just dull and it just doesn't seem like she's even trying to act. I'm sure that's what Oz wanted from her. But it just overall hurts the film imo. I would rather longlegs getting more screen time and him actually doing the killings atleast. Not having the doll aspect would have been better imo. They could of have a silence of the lambs type film. But instead went with a doll possession film. But I still think it was a good film. I'd give it 7 out of 10.
- A deal with the devil - The orb stores part of the essence of the devil within the family's mind, causing them to go nuts - Botched plastic surgeries to get more beautiful, which ironically made him horrendous - The doll is more of a gateway into the house, allowing the devil to do his work, he can't get inside unless they let him in - He was a failed Glam Rock musician, you can see clues to his past on the basement and his constant rock singing - It's a deal, he gives souls and deaths to the devil in worship, so the devil gives him power - He probably thinks he will be treated well in hell
There was barely any investigating in this movie. "we need to decipher his letter. " "Oh. I can magically read what he wrote " "We need to look for him." "Oh, he's at a bus stop. He called to let everyone know where he's at."
I don't think she can magically read what he wrote - she got the birthday letter from him with a decipher code of which symbol related to each letter of the card. I think she used that to figure out the rest
I would be okay with that if thats what happened. She grew up with long legs. She just knows how to read it because he taught her how to read it growing up.
@@kennethforman5265 wasn't there a whole scene of her deciphering the code using the bible? of course longlegs gave her the means to decipher the code on purpose so it was him that let her do it but i don't think she knew the code the whole time

Hahahahaha that "Half psychic is better than no psychic" line in the movie made me laugh more than it should have. It's the kind of joke I would make in awkward situations to lighten the mood.
It seems Carter had to be somewhat affected the whole movie. He guided her to her mom and he allowed her to question Carrie Ann and Longlegs alone. It’s the only thing that makes sense given they found the case with the doll together. I mean he knew when his daughters birthday was and as soon as her mom showed up with the chest you’d think he would’ve know what it was and responded accordingly, he was even present for the interrogation when he said a person showed up with a gift from the church so I mean how would he allow his family to fall for it?
I think osgood perkins tried to create a horror movie with the uncomfortable atmosphere that movies like “the killing of a sacred deer” & “infinity pool” are known for creating, and possibly considered it the new secret formula for today’s horror genre, but he focused on that more instead of the storyline, which didn’t take much effort to come up with, so that’s why it disappointed some people unfortunately.
I liked this movie. There’s a genre of “atmospheric horror“ movies that build off tension and atmosphere vs flat it scares. This movie may not check all the boxes but it’s a solid film.
Very let down by this. I think it would have been way better if they dropped the satanic crap and just kept him as a serial killer. The trailer made me think it was gonna be way different. The movie wasn't really that scary, it was just weird honestly
Can't disagree more. I think it was a great movie and those who didn't enjoy it, I feel bad they didn't. Longlegs was a good movie. Well paced and wasn't annoyingly shocking.
@@cynicalninaI feel like we have enough supernatural horror out there already, any additions need to be done REALLY well. I feel like some aspects of the movie were executed well, but not the supernatural elements. IMO, of course!
I actually kind of liked that there were a bunch of loose ends. It's nice to not have everything just explained. Some stuff was explained outside of the movie since they created a whole ARG for it. I really enjoyed it, but I definitely didn't go into it thinking it was going to be a horror movie though and that probably helped.
I didn't see any marketing for this movie and liked it. That said, if I saw the whole "scariest movie!!" thing, I probably would have skipped it. The vast majority of the time those movies are meh and not scary at all.
I think a lot of ppl don't like it is expectations from the trailers and marketing. Try to limit your expectations and you'll enjoy stuff more. It's also weird how ppl seem to remember everything from a trailer but can't remember the exposition from the start of the movie just a bit ago or in general what they did last week. Lastly, I think there's a disconnect with some filmmakers and the average audience member. Most ppl are too stuck in reality and don't have the energy or interest in the supernatural or surreal. Its goes over their head when they've lived their life being super analytical and critical. Or for the religious it may challenge their beliefs. And like the decade of cinemasins and other youtubers basically telling people how to think in 1-2 narrow ways to view a film... well it is how we get here.
This was definitely a film that benefited from being seen in the theater. The silence in the beginning is so noticeable that when you finally see Longlegs is utterly terrifying. It's not a perfect film, but I really enjoyed it and can't wait to see the deleted scenes.
That’s another one that came out this year about a big spider, not to be confused with the Adam Sandler one with him being stuck with a large spider addicted to Nutella in space lol
Maybe im just not as big brained as everyone else but i thought it was a great straight forward scary movie. Not some metaphoric, deep thinking flick that usually comes out nowadays with a thousand different twist and turns. It was a solid horror film. Definitely one to remember.
Hello Mr Foundflix! Please cover “No One Gets Out Alive”. My friends and I watched it awhile ago and was genuinely very confused and would love your explanation and deep dive about the ending!
So I think this movie is really great. I think if you're willing to accept that the movie was NEVER "Seven" or "Silence of the Lambs," but it's actually been "Needful Things" the whole time. There is a lot to appreciate on repeat viewings. Everything is explainable and there are 2 distinct readings of the film (magic, or no magic), but I like the read that the devil orchestrated this entire set of events and was very successful in devastating many lives over several years. Lee's "psychic powers" are the devil nudging her in the right direction, etc etc.
This movie scared me like no other film has in a long time. Its definitely one of those films you can come to appreciate with more viewings. And see the details you missed. Lotta people talking about cage performance, he did great. But i think the mom was the way more scary and unnerving character by the end of the film.
Can you explain to me why you thought it was a good movie? I saw it in theatre and in my opinion it sucked ass. Probably in my top 5 worst “horror” movies.
@@goldenflower5035 in my 1st viewing before the 3rd act twist I thought the film was pretty predictable and boring. Especially the main characters acting. And longlegs character wasn't that scary to me at 1st, he was pretty funny to me. But after finishing the film on my 1st viewing and thinking about what I watched. The 3rd act actually destroyed me in a messed up way. At 1st I thought the daughter was the one working with longlegs, the mom being the real culprit was also very predictable. But the reasoning got to me. Alot of people say they didn't like the exposition dump in the 3rd act, but for me it freaked me out. The mom did all those horrible things to protect her daughter from the devil. But the whole time the devil was in full control of everything. He could've just took the daughter like the rest, but instead he wanted to twist the moms love and care for her daughter and turn it into something evil and sinister so he can play with religious families. He succeeded, by the end of the film you get to see what the devil actually does. By the end of the film you see the mom did all that stuff for nothing, she even says if the family doesn't die or any future victims don't die, her daughter will twist forever in hell. The devil basically makes the daughter kill her mom, and by the end of it you see with gun not shooting the doll, he was always in control he just wanted to toy and mess with these loving people and turn their love into something evil. And nothing can stop him. That's what I took from the ending. Like I said my 1st viewing I was thinking this girl is acting so boring but with the twist I see why she's acting that way and it's kinda sad and scary. Its that the devil was manipulating the whole time, Then longlegs character like I said at 1st viewing to me he seemed funny and goofy. But after thinking about what he's saying and the way he emotes, it's very messed up and scary to me. Then with the cop dad guy, to me it was kinda implied that he was very invested in the longlegs case to try to stop his family from being the next victims. But by the end of the film you see he failed and he falls under same thing as the other fathers. In those final 5 minutes of the film everything clicked for me. I was literally shouting at the TV for her to do something save the family. But then I notice it looks like everyone is paralyzed and possessed. And the way the dad talked to the wife. It was one of those moments while watching a film it actually felt like I couldn't breathe. The whole plot by the 3rd act clicked with me, it was that the devil always had control and nothing can or will stop him. And he was just having fun. That's why imo I thought it was a good horror film. But that's just my opinion. I Apologies for the long typing.

I was disappointed by that aspect as well. It's didn't really feel earned to me. I was waiting for a "oh my God" type of explanation.

Came out confused by the the corny twist at the end, still disturbed by the movies vibe, and amazed when I found out it was Nicholas cage under that makeup.
shame that you didn’t watch any of the trailers, the marketing for this movie was some of the best i’ve seen for a horror
The marketing was the best part and made the movie better if you followed the arg

Maybe they opened it after she already jumped.
The dark looming Satan shadow in this one is very similar to Osgoods one in the blackcoats daughter.
I thought the same thing while watching those scenes.
I'd like to think that both films are in the same universe, where Satan doesn't have any major plans of world domination and is just out to mess with people
It's a bit confusing at first but as I watched it again a couple of times it was really great, I understood more and more each time. Very good.
19:28... It IS allowed in the USA. Not sure why you said it in a fake manner like that
Exactly. The US has better freedom of religion laws than most countries

The last GOOD HORROR film ive seen was hereditary. That movie stuck with me for a long time
Same
This movie COULD HAVE BEEN one of the great horror films of ALL-TIME!
But, instead of developing Longlegs as a character, they just used him as a side-show freak.
This was a huge missed opportunity.
If you have an inquisitive mind, you can't HELP but thinking:
- How did he get this power?
- How does the brain/orb work?
- WHAT IS UP WITH HIS FACE?
- How exactly does the doll take-over the family?
- What was his past like?
- Why is the devil helping him?
- What is his reward for doing all this?
Maybe they'll do a sequel, given the success of this film.
All those questions is what makes it great for me. I don't want everything tied up in a neat little bow with movies like these. I want to think about wtf I just watched and to philosophize on it. Maybe watch a slasher or something instead if you want to shut your mind off and have everything spoon fed to you.
That's not really how movies work, for this amount of world building you probably want a show or a videogame
For this amount of *in your face* world building, because as other comments have pointed out, some of these details are in the movie, they're just not at the forefront
- A deal with the devil
- The orb stores part of the essence of the devil within the family's mind, causing them to go nuts
- Botched plastic surgeries to get more beautiful, which ironically made him horrendous
- The doll is more of a gateway into the house, allowing the devil to do his work, he can't get inside unless they let him in
- He was a failed Glam Rock musician, you can see clues to his past on the basement and his constant rock singing
- It's a deal, he gives souls and deaths to the devil in worship, so the devil gives him power
- He probably thinks he will be treated well in hell
Thought I was the only one who thought this. Felt like the movie was written by 3 different people, immediately went downhill after part 1
I have been waiting for this one! Thanks, FoundFlix!

It was an odd movie, and it left me feeling uneasy. Cage's death scene was...a lot.
There was barely any investigating in this movie. "we need to decipher his letter. "
"Oh. I can magically read what he wrote "
"We need to look for him."
"Oh, he's at a bus stop.
@@kennethforman5265 wasn't there a whole scene of her deciphering the code using the bible? of course longlegs gave her the means to decipher the code on purpose so it was him that let her do it but i don't think she knew the code the whole time

i rewatch the interogation scene from time to time

I lowkey liked the vibe of this movie.
I liked this movie. There’s a genre of “atmospheric horror“ movies that build off tension and atmosphere vs flat it scares. This movie may not check all the boxes but it’s a solid film.
With all those agents getting killed around her, I can't imagine a single agent at the FBI who'd want her for a partner.
Very let down by this. I think it would have been way better if they dropped the satanic crap and just kept him as a serial killer. The trailer made me think it was gonna be way different. The movie wasn't really that scary, it was just weird honestly
You said it best, the supernatural shit ruined it
yea i felt the same. it had potential but the satanic stuff was too much and it kind of ruined my respect for the movie
Agreed, I thought it was pretty bad tbh
Both you and Elvis today with this movie...I need to go buy some popcorn.
Silence of the Lambs, Sinister, and Twin Peaks are movies or TV shows that come to mind when I see this movie.
I didn't see any marketing for this movie and liked it. That said, if I saw the whole "scariest movie!!" thing, I probably would have skipped it. The vast majority of the time those movies are meh and not scary at all.
Thanks bud!!! Now we want The substance! We love you !!
Is the audio crackling or are my headphones finally dying?
If you mean for the movie then it does that when he screams
neither. its satan.
👀I was just wondering the same thing???@Tyway
I can’t wait to see the ending explained for Never Let Go it was pretty good but confusing at the same time
This was definitely a film that benefited from being seen in the theater. The silence in the beginning is so noticeable that when you finally see Longlegs is utterly terrifying. It's not a perfect film, but I really enjoyed it and can't wait to see the deleted scenes.
I thought this was a spider movie.

Bahhh! We keep saving this one for spooky month.. I'll come back!
Nicolas Cage is awesome!
Now i'm definitely not watching ig
Been waiting patiently for some new foundflix!
This movie scared me like no other film has in a long time. Its definitely one of those films you can come to appreciate with more viewings. And see the details you missed. Lotta people talking about cage performance, he did great. But i think the mom was the way more scary and unnerving character by the end of the film.
This was overhyped and mid. It's okay to say it wasn't that great
That's fine, I can agree it was definitely over hyped. But I still thought it was a great film. That's just my opinion
