Ooooo... As a Technician, I like it! Gonna have to give that a try. Atas-120a, FT-991a, and a Park to be named later! Thanks for the idea, Mike! 73 de KJ7LLX 👍🏻
Awesome! The 991a is perfect for this. I hope you get a bunch in the log!
Such a great idea!
Thanks! I hope others give it a shot. One of my most memorable QSOs was when I called out on 146.52 at the end of a POTA on HF and got a new ham who just passed his Tech that month.
This sounds like fun! I think I need to do this.
Thanks, Carlos, I’m glad you like the idea. I don’t need to tell you that height can help with VHF/UHF 😂
Great idea and challenge.. I've never worked VHF or UHF.. Techs def have a leg up on me cause I wouldn't know the first thing about accessing a repeater, LOL.. Im such a ROOKIE ! !... Good luck and look forward to seeing a video of your fun... k0klb
Thanks, Kevin. I'll be making a video and of course I'll be QRP, LOL. Doing SOTA/POTA activations during previous VHF contests was the first time for me doing SSB on 6m, 2m and even 70cm. The ICOM 705 really is a Swiss Army Knife of radios.
Love this idea! Thanks for the challenge. Most of the time I do the VHF contests in a POTA park which is Shenandoah National Park. I have made contacts on 10GHz, 1.2GHz, 900MHz. Hoping to add 2.4GHz to that soon.
Awesome! I haven’t been above 70cm, but that might change next weekend.
Do or do not. I’ll have to remember to try 6m… We’ll see what happens! 73!
6m is one of the advantages the FX-4CR has over the G90. Good luck!
I do POTA from my VW Van (battery installed). This is a great idea but in Seattle none of the local summits are both POTA and driveable. If the weather is decent maybe I will hike or ESK8 up to the top. But I do love this idea. I will keep it in mind that weekend.
I’ve got one SOTA an hour away the overlaps with a POTA. That’s where I usually go for the contests. But I’m not sure if it’ll work with my schedule this year. We’ll see-I’m definitely getting out no matter what.
I wish there was more high band activity here.
There's always tropo, if you can catch it, LOL. While I get it's not going to work for everyone, everywhere, I'm trying to encourage others to more active and give it a shot.
Great ideas! Davey --KU9L
Thanks, I’m glad you liked it! It really doesn’t take much to just give it a shot.
Will do !

Awesome! I hope some people catch some magic on 6m or get tropo on 2m.
Too bad you didn't start at 28 Mhz and above to encourage Techs with your challenge. Unfortunately it's a wasteland in the West on VHF-UHF in Jan. during a contest. If 6 mtrs doesn't open, not likely in Jan. it's a waste of time. I haven't missed a VHF-UHF contest in 40 plus years. Always happy to POTA On regardless. K7CAR K-9265 NV
I'm simply trying to raise awareness of the overlap for both events and encourage everyone to give 6m and above a shot, since those are the frequencies for the VHF contest. It's certainly not going to work for everyone, everywhere, but it doesn't hurt to try.
I always do POTA above 50. Oops wrong above 50. :)
LOL, I was wondering when someone would make a comment like that.
I am glad I could make the first Dad joke@@MikeN2MAK
VHF POTA? Good luck trying that here 😑
I get that it is not for everyone, but during a contest, when there's more activity than normal, is always a good time to give something new a try, whether it's a band, a mode or antenna.
in summer I can do it@@MikeN2MAK , if the correct tropo conditions are there, but it's very unlikely. You're lucky to have enough HAM's around to try 😊
@@LB4FH tropo is fun! I was so surprised the first time I experienced it. I am lucky that there is a very active VHF group in my region, but it is different in other parts of the state and country.
Ya in the summer here I could drive to one of the ridges in Mt Rainier NP and reach down into Seattle/Tacoma. Maybe even bounce VHF/UHF off the mountain and get into the east side of the State...
