The Bible is regarded as historical fiction by us non-believers. Of course it’s gonna have some true elements. That’s the “historical” part. Y’all let me know the next time a human turns water into wine, walks on water, feeds a thousand people with one happy meal, or ascends into the sky wearing only a robe. Also y’all’s unwillingness to seek divinity today makes me think that you’re worshipping the Bible and the church as idols, and are closed to further guidance from your god. Yeah, I thought that interesting, too. Idiomatic use of language is so natural to people, they don’t think it’ll be a problem for an audience out of context… And, when someone is documenting spoken interchanges, of course, they want to record what was actually said. 🤔
Wow. I listened twice. I noticed Titus mentioned LysAnias, and that there were 2 men by that name, just like Lydia, a previous guest on your show did. That supports the validity of the Gospels!
I worked with Titus on a dig on Mt. Zion for a couple of summers. I'm surprised he associated the temple trumpeting inscription with Peter's denial as opposed to roosters crowing as, when we were on on way to the dig site early in the morning, invariably roosters crowed to announce the beginning of our day. Each day. The place of trumpeting was the SW corner of the Temple Mount where in fact trumpeting announced key times in their liturgical calendar. To me, the rooster crowing was a more practical milestone of the time by which Peter would deny Christ 3 times than the Sabbath trumpet.
20:40 the fact that construction of the temple began 19 BCE and took 46 years to be completed only means that Jesus' ministry couldn't have started before 27 CE but it doesn't mean it had been recently inaugurated. The 46 years discussion could've have very well taken place any amount of years after it's completion 45:00 Jesus riding on a donkey was a sign of Him declaring He is a king. Kings rode donkeys because it represented times of peace; they rode horses to go war and the people in Jerusalem were aware of this and it was the reason they gave Him a king's welcome laying palms and spreading their coats in the way before Him as he passed. It was just one more sign that alarmed the members of the Sanhedrin as it showed the power before the people He was having, diminishing and jeopardizing the Sanhedrin's power.
I've also heard it pointed out that most of what we know about Julius Caesar's life comes from his own, "Gaelic Wars" (sp?) yet no one claims it is not historical evidence. But the Gospel accounts, from multiple sources, we're supposed to discount due to bias. It would be hilarious were it not so sad.
Yep exactly. "You can't use the Bible to prove the Bible! It doesn't work that way!!!" Then they proceed to blindly trust most of what we know about Julius lol
I wouldn't expect anyone to prove every point of the scriptures. I have my degree in law enforcement. We learn to trust a preponderance of evidence. I couldn't put a number on it, but I think that the many, many things found by archeologists have proven both the old and new testament.
The Herods are fascinating! In THE JEWISH WAR, Josephus makes learning about them interesting. Somehow, you two manage to take this extremely interesting subject and make it seem mundane and boring. Well, not everyone is able to bring even colourful characters to life. Thanks for the research and facts!
For the last decades in this century more and more and more archeological findings have been excavated and this is where Jesus says I paraphrase, where Jesus says people will believe by works. Which means, not only Miracles and Wonders would be performed in the Last Days, but also and I add Archeological findings so unbelievers can believe Jesus is Real and the Bible is the True Word of God. Thank you Jesus, Hallelujah!!!
Absolutely. The Bible is documentary evidence of the life of an historical Jesus. The same criticism was levelled at the old testament. But new discoveries are proving it is all true. They recently found the tomb of High Priest Caiaphus

To every claim that is true, it's easy to argue the opposite because you have infinite options. From the perspective of someone who wasn't there, there are more reasons why something never happened, and only one for someone who was there. Truth is a narrow way.

Evidence that Hebrew was much more developed during Moses' time than skeptics had previously claimed. Hi Dr. McDowell, this video, amongst other educational videos of the Bible, is so interesting to learn from. I wonder if there are books where they cite Bible verses backed by Biblical historical findings through archeology and historic accounts. Thst would be awesome to get the full picture of what was going on during the Biblical events and meanings of Jesus's sayings through the Parables. I've read Concordances, Historical books, and other books to help me understand, but I've never had everything in one book. Is there such a book? If so, can you let us know? Also, it would be great to get in addition to those books and updated books as the encyclopedias used to have.
So did the trumpet crow? What was the greek word used for crow and why did they use crow if it could’ve been a trumpet ? Deng it would’ve loved if they went deeper into that one. Great video! God Bless!
The "WORD of "GOD unravels so "MUCH, all attempts by the doubt and unbelief of some archaeologist that don't believe in GOD is "AMAZING, there attempt to say things don't have anything to do with the account described in the word of GOD, and there uncovering the very things that prove the gospel, amazing, history no matter how they try to change it to fit what they want it to fit, instead it just fits the gospels in the accounts the Bible describes, no matter how hard they try to cover it up, the gospel remains true.
My first video with both of you was on the Exodus. I found the information very unbiased, trying to sift shaky “proof” out of the way. Pleased, that lead me to this video, which for the most part was very informative. However, the Alexamenos Graffito details and interpretation had me scratching my head. Something is off here, I thought. So I did a bit of research. Most scholars accept that the graffito is probably from the 3rd century, and not the year 100, which is more in line with the graffito’s depiction. Some scholars see as a plausible interpretation that it was meant as a mockery to heretical groups in Christianity, which also makes sense since it is known, for instance, that first century Christians did not honor icons, which seems to be the reference in the graffito’s depiction, even if in mockery. This makes more sense with what I know of first century Christians, their beliefs and customs. So, please, keep the full range of available understanding on the matter, and swerve from the human temptation of presenting facts that cater to our predetermined beliefs. That is precisely what lead me to watch a second video from you guys. Thank you.
Luke was a doctor at the time, inducating that he was factual and scientific for his time. Thats why I belueve he gave factual historic details to undergird his account and also, of course, to prive his bona fides. G Ire
Hard to watch Kennedy after seeing how he interacts with more serious scholars. You just can’t keep from asking yourself, what has he ignored about the topic he is discussing? What doctrinal limitations has he put on himself that keeps him from looking at all the data? His debate on Exodus really makes one concerned. Has he addressed that debate publicly?

I have heard, that they have found archaeological evidence of some kind that shows that it was a feature of common ridicule to speak about the god of the Jews as a donkey. Do you have a reference for that this would, of course, give even more force to the caricatures of Jesus With a donkeys head
The "spiderman" lie says that the source being well-researched/ having a good understanding of an environment has no fbearing on evaluation of a sources veracity. For someone who is writing fiction, the reseach can be important, knowing how people in another situation, place and time would act, dress and to give actual details of the environments. But once the fiction is written it is also open to contradiction by other sources on the same subject on all the details given in the fictional narrative and that would be random to the fiction writers research. Things that were known to him he would have used, things he got wrong he would have used, but what was not known to him he would not have been able to use. Now take a handful of fiction writers from the first century who are coordinated in their writings, well researched where any research would be done by travel and library visits, travel and interviews or travel and observation on location, producting individual pieces of fiction that survives all analyses, challenges and new findings over 2000 years. Only a moron would believe that.
These are interesting but when the Bible assures us that it was a rooster that crowed the night Jesus ws arrested, I'm pretty sure that there was a rooster in the vicinity.
I've never heard anyone speak on the lack of Jesus appearances after the ascension. The apostles suffered for their message until their death. As we all know of human nature , occasional visits by Jesus would be a logical outcome of both frauds and the insane. They 1 st Christians expected his return in their lifetime.
Fabricated visits by Jesus to rally the believers through tough times is the human response and could easily have been spread. It didn't happen. It convinces me that the account is truth .
The way the ministry of Jesus ends at the ascension hasn't been discussed by scholars as far as I know. It makes no sense unless it actually happened as described.
I know just enough to be dangerous (usually to myself, as in making a fool thereof); but it constantly surprises and frustrates me how these brilliant PhDs will place AD after the year, as in "70 AD." Of course it should always be "AD 70" (i.e. The Year of Our Lord 70, or, Anno Domini 70). The impetus for this error is the surprisingly persistent misconception that AD stands for "After Death." I know it's hard to believe and funny; but many people still assume this is the case. Naturally the funny thing, if that were true, would be the roughly 33 years (Jesus' earthly life) which would historically have no numerical year ascribed to them. As NT Wright jokingly refers to them, "Those embarrassing years between birth and crucifixion." p.s. Love the show, sir. Just having a little bit of nerd fun with my particular pet peeve.
Dr. McDowell, how would you answer someone who says to you, she is not sure of the validity of the entire Bible, or how close we should follow it, secondary to the multiple interpretations and translations, as well as how the Bible has been taken out of context by man. This person is a follower of Jesus, but not sure about the Holy Trinity. I Believe without a doubt the Bible is the Word of God. Thank you

Super interesting about the trumpeter vs a rooster 🐓 crowing!

@@SeanMcDowell I'll start saving my pennies!
Awesome idea! I would love a guided tour from this dude!!
Jesus Christ stated the cock would crow when Peter denied him 3 times.

Fantastic new video! Loved this!
20:40 the fact that construction of the temple began 19 BCE and took 46 years to be completed only means that Jesus' ministry couldn't have started before 27 CE but it doesn't mean it had been recently inaugurated. The 46 years discussion could've have very well taken place any amount of years after it's completion
45:00 Jesus riding on a donkey was a sign of Him declaring He is a king.
It doesn't work that way!!!"
Then they proceed to blindly trust most of what we know about Julius lol
Sean, would you consider doing a show highlighting the many skeptical arguments over the years that later through archeological finds was proven to be false?

To every claim that is true, it's easy to argue the opposite because you have infinite options. From the perspective of someone who wasn't there, there are more reasons why something never happened, and only one for someone who was there. Truth is a narrow way.
That is the deeper reason FAITH is God's 'way' of picking His followers and why He rewards us based solely on our level of faith. Man's way is ignorant compared the Makers'.
This is all very interesting and I appreciate the work being done here. But I know the gospels is real because Jesus lives in me. He saved me out of my lousy dispicable sinful life. ❤Thank you for sharing these videos. What a treasure we have in the word of God, both in the Bible and in the Book of Mormon - Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Moroni 10 :4-5 tells us how we can know that these scriptures are true.
There is one difference between the two that really matters....
One is inspired and one isnt.
Interesting that people often make claims that archeological finds "confirm the bible". The bible contains many references to history and accredits causation to "god". Unfortunately, the bible plagiarises many stories and myths from often much earlier cultures and civilisations. I say "plagiarised" because the bible never gives credit or reference to the originators or previous sources the very human authors of the bible stole them from. It is also a massive stretch to claim that places and events as recorded by man as the authors of the bible, when confirmed as a real architectural place, validate the rest of the bible, which is absolute rubbish. That's like saying that because Peter Jackson chose New Zealand as the setting for the movie series "Lord of the Rings" (as authored by the man, JRR Tolkien), and that New Zealand is a real place, that the story of the Lord of the Rings is real, factual and actually happened, rather than being a work of fiction. Stop feeding the gullible, who so desperately want to believe.

How does the gospels mentioning Augustus mean they are reliable?

You're ramblings are irrational, and inconclusive. Could you try to formulate a proper paragraph and explain yourself properly?
The Apostles never reported further visits by Jesus.
The way the ministry of Jesus ends at the ascension hasn't been discussed by scholars as far as I know. It makes no sense unless it actually happened as described.
@@ryanprosper88 Mmm… and can you punctuate correctly?
As NT Wright jokingly refers to them, "Those embarrassing years between birth and crucifixion."
p.s. Love the show, sir. Just having a little bit of nerd fun with my particular pet peeve.
