YOU'RE the crazy ones; haven't you ever heard of Genetic Studies, or heard of Top Secret Projects, Bio-Weapons, although these guys aren't taking it to over-the-top levels, like the Umbrella Corporation. This game is taking a more practical, feasible approach to Genetic Experimentation. This stuff is actually possible, if it was ever seriously considered, funded and put into practice.

But along with that, unlike Snake, he had Big Boss' "Soldier Genes", giving him far superior strength over Solid.

He stopped two, soon to be 3 Metal Gears by that point, he took down Zanzibarland, he fought an actual cyborg ninja. He's survived and endured that which should kill the ordinary man. And then Liquid loses. He lost, and Snake won. Because the truth is, genes don't make the man. They can influence you in some way, but they don't rule you like Liquid believed them to. To fall into that trap is paramount to admitting defeat by that point.

In other words Liquid was genetically engineered to be the superior, stronger, more intelligent, more capable clone of Big Boss. But because of how he was raised he became a whiny little bitch and for all that he had going for him he lost out again the inferior clone, David (Solid). Basically it's an argument of nature vs nurture and Kojima is saying through this game that nature can give you an edge but it's how you're raised and how you look at yourself and your own life that will determine if you keep the edge or you become dull. Liquid is about as fine a specimen of soldier that can be made but he doesn't believe in himself because he thinks he's flawed. He thinks he was made "wrong" and this ultimately is why he keeps getting his butt handed to him by his brother.
