Love the little flowers...90's fabric prints are so adorable! You transform a not very flattering style on a beautiful dress, you can probably wear it with your beautiful turtlenecks tops when it gets cold. Going to the thrift store tomorrow hope I can get a similar dress and follow your good ideas, have a nice day sweetheart :)
Flipping 80s and 90s dresses I find at the thrift store is one of my favourite things to do! I have an amazing 80s dress with hideous shoulder pads waiting for me to alter 😂
What a great transformation!😍 The main problem with the original dress was that it was a size (or two) too big for you - but that's always easier to fix than the opposite issue! 😁 I agree that the dropped waist wasn't flattering. Had you decided to, you could have kept the sleeves, but you'd probably have had to detatch them anyway to get the shoulder seams in the right place - so actually, making it sleeveless was simpler in the end. Changing the buttons was a huge improvement. How lucky that the spacing of the buttons still looked right despite having raised the waist position! Altogether, the changes you've made have hugely improved the dress. Well done!
I can’t believe what a awesome idea this is! Your thrift flip turned out beautifully and I am now on the hunt for something similar to try for myself! You are so dang clever!❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦
I did a thrift flip a while back of a dress that I converted to skirt and I even opened up the side seams to add it pockets. It was so fun and I still wear the skirt 🙂
Hello. I live in the U. S. and am spending a month in Moolooaba with my daughter and her family. I was anxious to visit op shops and Spotlight. What fun. All of the shops here have dresses with puffy sleeves and tiered skirts. Everything you do is ontrend. I love your channel, you and your patterns.
I have at least three skirts I bought from charity shops intending to cut up and try making something else with... and ended up keeping as is because I liked the length much more than imagined!
I do look forward to seeing your new tutorials every Sunday morning. This one is brilliant. I like what you did to the dress to suit your style . An excellent insensitive to go opp shopping and have a go at doing the same . Thank you ❤
Nice work Janelle - it looks great. And I have to say, I'm more impressed than usual. If you can resuscitate clothing from the 80s, you can transform anything. The music was great, but the fashion should probably never be revisited.
I really enjoy the kind of simple changes you make, and what a difference there is between the start and finish! You look so much more comfortable in the piece at the end. I bought a secondhand piece for only ¥800 that I knew would be way too small, but i took off the sleeves to extend the shoulder seams, filled in the side seams with fabric I already had in my home, and made new sleeves out of that same fabric. Now it's one of my favorites with such a comfy fit, and this video inspires me to want to do another one like that!
I loved thrifting 80's dresses when I made kids costumes. They had so much useful fabric, and usually only cost $2 to buy (was a while ago) I averaged 2 - 2.5 m of fabric from most full circle dresses.
Surprised you didn't use the sleeve fabric to make pockets! Bodice length makes such a difference to the appearance and fit of a garment. Even a long torso can have a high waist.
Great idea, loved it Janelle. The sleeveless dress suits you well but for myself I think I would have kept the sleeves but made it smaller like a cap sleeve or something..
What a great thrift flip, Janelle. When i saw your new video it was posted, 50 minuts ago. I look at it. It' s by jou in the morning now, when it's for me bedtime. I only have to walk with my dogs and then it's time to sleep for me. But for you have a nice day. Greeting Desiree
Absolutely beautiful! I am wondering why the hem didn't come out uneven since you took off the skirt and re-gathered it, wouldn't it get sewn back onto the high and low points of the basque waistline in different spots than it has been resulting in an uneven hem?.
Set your sewing machine stitch to the longest possible setting, then sew two rows of stitches and pull the top two threads and the fabric will gather up along the stitches 😊 I give more detail in some of my other sewing tutorials (particularly the video instructions for my patterns)
Raising the waistline did so much for that dress. I never was a huge fan of dropped waists. Nice job!

You did such an awesome flip. I love the fabric. The dress is so much nicer!

Them shoulder pads were awful. I pulled them out then.
@@shellylemons hahahaha that's great 😂

I really admire anyone who can do a thrift flip. I just don’t have the imagination to think about what I could do. Yours turned out so beautifully.

Thank you! Have fun with your own transformation x
That's lovely vintage calico! I was sewing everything I wore in the 80s. Loved the fabrics!
I love the flip dress!! I watch your videos and gain confidence that I can do the same alterations to clothing- thrifted or patterns.
Love the thrift on this dress. So much better. Your style.
Wow! What a transformation! I love it! You made it look so easy to do! 🌸
This turned out so cute! Especially with the T-shirt underneath 😍
That is so cute, Janelle! You did a fabulous thrift flip. And it suits you to a T.
Your changes were definite improvements! Bravo
A very nice outcome, thank you for sharing this flip.

Hi Janelle. ..what an amazing transformation...love it and soo refreshing. ..well done.
Thank you for sharing. Remain blessed xxx
Well done! I love how you raised the waistline, it looks so much better now. 🙂
Love the way this turned out! It looked like you had enough fabric from the sleeves to add pockets if wanted!
This turned out so cute!

I love the look with the T shirt underneath so much! 😍
Excellent flip!
I always wear a t-shirt under my sleeveless dresses, that is so clever. Great job!
Incredible! I love watching your vision coming together ❤️
So excited for this video. Clicked it straight away ❤
Thanks so much for watching! I hope you liked it 😄
Surprised you didn't use the sleeve fabric to make pockets!

The dress already had pockets! Such a surprise when I put it on 😄
I love it 😍
You make it look so easy
I just thrifted an 80’s dress! I just need to take it in a bit and let out the sleeves. Then it is going to be perfect! I’m so excited!
Looks great Janelle, thanks for sharing.
Great video! Would love to see any maintenance/ upkeep you have to do to your machines after a big project? Thank you!
Very chic flip happy
Such a beautiful flip! 😍
❤ this turned out great I really liked how it looks with the tee underneath great job 👍
I love the changes!!
OMG soo beautiful the dress, this transformation is fantastic.
Loved it, especially the bias gizmo!
Too cute!! Have you ever done a thrift flip on an item that was too SMALL? I have a skirt and wondering if it’s even possible 😆
Great idea, loved it Janelle. The sleeveless dress suits you well but for myself I think I would have kept the sleeves but made it smaller like a cap sleeve or something..
🌞gorgeous
I love it! Would have looked great if you had pleated the skirt like it was originally!
Looks great.x
Love it ❤
Beautiful!!! Would you consider making a pattern of the thrift flipped version?!
I really want to make a pattern with a basque waist, so watch this space!

Thanks Donna! You’re too kind xx
Gorgeous, well done and love the material!!
Isn’t it pretty! Such a good find 😍
Fantastic 👏
Love it!
Wonderful!!
Good job!!
The dress turned out so cute!! It left me wanting to make a sleeveless dress so bad 🥺
Love your videos! ❤️

The top of the skirt had been cut in the shape of the basque waist so it ended up even once reattached 😊
Inspiring!
much improved! :)
Hello. You are good teacher for me. Tell me please what is the name of the overlock? I want to buy one. Thank you so much.
