It turned out so well! A tip for sewing with Liberty fabric is to purchase lawn/voile fabric in a matching colour (at a much cheaper price!) to use for pockets, bias, hem facing etc. Those things use a surprising amount of fabric, and are not always necessary to have in Liberty because you rarely see the fabric:)
I love your videos and i think my baby likes them too. He’s so relaxed and never fussy when I watch your videos. I even play it in the background when he’s sleeping.😂
Janelle!!! Thank you so much for this beautiful video using my Willa dress pattern, I adore how yours turned out! I recently made a black one too and struggled to see what I was doing whilst sewing haha. Thanks again 💞 xx
I love this dress and I've taken that skillshare class even though I am not a beginner and it was still really informative and gets you wanting to sew when. If you are like me, there are times when you love the idea of sewing more than actually sewing... 👼
I read recently on another sewing video about the solution for elastic being too loose after sewing. Before you measure your elastic, you have to stretch it out reeeeaaal good for 4-5 times. That kinda 'activates' the elastic. After stretching it a few times, it snags back into the length it should have after sewing. Also, the dress turned out really beautiful. I'm a big fan of black clothes, and yeah, the struggle of seeing where you sew is real. I love the pattern on this fabric and it looks lusurious even on screen and the pattern is just a dream. It went in my folder of patterns to buy after i'm done with my free pattern journey.
I bought a dress made of this fabric in the early eighties. It is thicker fabric and the flowers are pink and white. I found it the other day in my stash. I didn’t realize I had kept it. I had loved it so much I couldn’t bear to get rid of it. I am so glad I kept it. It has a yoke of white lace, black velvet and pink ribbon. It is still in very good condition.
I am going to give you my favourite tip for edgestitching when you don’t have an edgestitching foot: use your zipper foot and change the needle position if necessary, for the stitch to be placed as close to the edge as possible. Makes edgestitching so easy! 😊 i learned this one from Evelyn Wood and it changed my sewing for the better.
It's absolutely stunning! No wonder you've immediately made a second one. Wow! 😍 So pretty and feminine and gorgeous, you look fabulous in it. Enjoy your US adventure in the sunshine 🌞
That pattern was fabulous! So much of the work was done while the fabric was flat! And when I saw all those gathers, I thought it would be a nightmare! But the designer has such clever ways to manage all that fabric and gathering!so impressive! And the dress is a delight! The light Liberty Tana lawn seems ideal for this dress! You just have simply rocked that!👏👏👏👏👏👏
This dress is everything I love about a dirndl without having to sew both dress and a blouse! I have to make this when I have time. Yours turned out beautifully, and it looks adorable on you!
Love love the dress Janelle! Think it’s gorgeous. Just a tip, when you’re cutting out your fabric, to make the table higher, buy a long piece of tubing from Bunnings (wide enough to slide table legs into it). Cut tubing into 4 equal pieces and put each leg into the tubing. This way you can raise the height of the table while cutting out so you don’t hurt your back and they can be removed for normal height! Hope I’ve explained that properly!!! :-). Lorraine
What a sweet, flowy and feminine dress, and the gorgeous Liberty fabric just takes it over the top to stunning! I'm so glad you chose this darker floral print. It's a striking contrast with your coloring and also showcases the details of the dress beautifully; looks so flattering on you!
If you want to do the hemming technique you can always use a different fabric to hem it up with and it can give a little pop of contrast when skirt moves or you can get a similar solid colour. It makes the dress hem heavier so it hangs better. 😊
Love how your black dress turned out especially when you wore it, looked absolutely Elegant! Well done. both dresses look good. I'm so inspired by your bravery at always trying out new patterns.
Love it, thank you for sharing your process. It was really relaxing to watch. I'm glad you puffed the sleeves, looks amazing. Job well done. I would love to see it in an off white fabric. I think that would look fantastic.
Thanks for showing your imperfect buttonholes. I'm not alone! Also, I didn't know Skill Share had sewing classes & had never considered getting the service till now. Gorgeous dress, LOVE that fabric! Cool music too.
I love everything about this video : the pattern, the fabric, the dress and the jazzy music ! The dress is stunning and suits you perfectly ! Black looks really good on you. Thank you very much for sharing this with us ❤
I've also made this dress, as a pattern tester, and it was a delight! My favorite part is the neckline, so dreamy! Making a second one in Liberty Tana Lawn as well, but will do a sleeveless hack.
It is beautiful and black in general suits you so much, so I am excited to see what else you'll make! Honestly it's so nice I am really inspired to sew one but in a mini length
Love that fabric. I've made three dresses from cotton and they're so bulky/stiff because the fabric is not as fine as this beautiful black print. Of course there us the price to pay. Even so, the pansy dress is very comfortable. I'm loving how simple ut is to put together. This dress you just made is very flattering. Wonderful new techniques to learn. Great job!
💓💖😍 love how this pattern finished and you look fabulous wearing it. Future Janelle is going to be so grateful you took the time to make these for Austin- 100 degrees or hotter 🥵. I hope you love your time in Texas.
The is very real, so make sure that you’re also packing sunscreen and maybe a water bottle or pick up one when you get here and always keep it on you and refilled. Some type of sun hat is always good as well. I’ve lived in Austin for the last six years and the summers are just getting hotter.
Absolutely thrilled! I got the pattern and am already in the process of sewing the dress myself. The sewing pattern is simply lovely! I also adore your UA-cam videos; it's always a joy to see a new post from you. Best wishes from one of your subscribers! 🌟✨👗
It's so pretty! And that fabric is everything! I want to make myself a dress like this. But I'm a self darter so I make all my own patters. I've only ever bought one and reading the instructions hurt my brain lol. Thankfully it also had pictures. I'm a visual learner and written words do not help me much.
Well, thanks to you, (LOL) I went down a rabbit hole for a yellow cotton lawn and bought 5 yards to make myself a dress. Probably not going to be the pattern you used, but it will definitely be great for the hot summer. I live in Houston, and yeah...Texas is just a sauna right now. BTW, I've made Rosie Cadwell's quilted zip pouches and brush roll. Those are really fun to sew up. I made a set for my daughter, and about to make another set for myself.
Omg I love it. I haven't even learned to sew yet, and I want to make this immediately! I love both the liberty fabric - I would style that so witchy - and I love the autumnal burnt orange too. You did so good. They look incredible!! ✨
I love the dress. Im thinking of upcycling a dress I have, convert it to a gathered bust (if i have enough length to gather). I will make mine have contrast bais tapes on the right side though, fastened up as bows on the sides
That fabric is *so* pretty, worth the $$ - not gonna lie, I would’ve tried to find a similar weight plain black fabric to use for the pockets & facings
Wonderful video Janelle. The two dresses are beautiful. I loved this sort of video where you take us through the whole process of making a dress step by step. Would you please do one with one of your patterns please?
Loved this dress, I made one after being inspired by your make on instagram. For my US trip. There are great tips for my next make of the Willa dress, I made my own bias binding as I couldn't get any 14mm in Australia at short notice. Good to know that 12mm bias binding works. Definitely will be doing a join on the facings next time and not on the fold. Save on fabric meterage.
Worked out great! Nice to see the occasional different colour. Very flattering. Hope you're enjoying Texas. Should have sent an empty suitcase with you 🤗

I can understand that, her voice is so calming.
That is so cute.
Aw how cute!! I’m so glad you both like them 🥰
Janelle!!! Thank you so much for this beautiful video using my Willa dress pattern, I adore how yours turned out! I recently made a black one too and struggled to see what I was doing whilst sewing haha. Thanks again 💞 xx
Thanks for making such a gorgeous pattern Rosie!! 🧡
A small piece of light interfacing behind the buttonholes would have made them turn out better. The dress does look lovely, well done
Your sewing videos are always so cozy, it is the perfect video to put on right after waking up on a Sunday morning, with breakfast or knitting
Aw that makes me so happy to hear! These are my favourite videos to make at the moment so I’m glad you like them 🧡
Liberty fabric is so worth it. It’s so beautiful!
Oh my goodness that dress turned out amazingly!
Hi. For future reference. put a stabiliser behind the buttonholes❤️👍🏻.
I love this dress and I've taken that skillshare class even though I am not a beginner and it was still really informative and gets you wanting to sew when. If you are like me, there are times when you love the idea of sewing more than actually sewing... 👼
I relate sooo much 😂
Wow, this turned out SO pretty! I'd love to wear that. Thanks for the video!

Love the black dress! As you say it looks complicated but it's relatively not! A very good colour on you! 😘
Love how your black dress turned out especially when you wore it, looked absolutely Elegant! Well done. both dresses look good. I'm so inspired by your bravery at always trying out new patterns.
Wow … that dress is stunning. 😍. Thank you for sharing your make. It was lovely watching the whole process. ❤️ x
It is absolutely beautiful. Love it!!!! I always place a small piece of interfacing behind my buttonholes to stabilize them.
Love the ruffled neckline! (and the whole dress of course!)
Love it, thank you for sharing your process. It was really relaxing to watch. I'm glad you puffed the sleeves, looks amazing. Job well done. I would love to see it in an off white fabric. I think that would look fantastic.

So cute! It’s worth the extra money for the fabric!
It is beautiful and black in general suits you so much, so I am excited to see what else you'll make! Honestly it's so nice I am really inspired to sew one but in a mini length
Okay that dress really is dreamy! I might need to add it to my queue!
i LOVE your high quality sewing construction videos, thank you!!!!
Ive pattern tested a very similar dress last year. It’s from Rosepatterndiy, called the Chloe. Love the fit as well. So incredibly comfortable ❤
I love it! That fabric is gorgeous and it looks fantastic with the elastic gathering it up. I love both of them!
One of my favorite makes of yours! Stunning!
Beautiful pattern and fabric pairing. I love the light silkiness of Liberty Tana lawn. Such a great choice for a summer wardrobe.
There’s nothing like it 😍

Liberty fabric is stellar. I made a dress as well, slept in it - almost no creases.
Ha love that! It’s magical stuff! 😍
@@RoseryApparel I ordered more fabric 🫣
