Lovely job as usual! There’s a scene from one of your videos where you mention that you get a lot of comments saying everything you make is the same (not true) and you’re response is that the hearts wants what the heart wants. That’s scene lives rent free in my head and pops up constantly. You make what you like so you’ll actually wear it. Our entertainment is a byproduct of your sewing, not the purpose of it and I love that. Much more sustainable than making what “the people” want to see.

So true, I agree with you! Why invest all the time, effort, and money, in sewing something that you’re not going to use? Doesn't make any sense.

Wonderful job on the drafting and execution of the jacket! You know… if you were to draft a jacket pattern for sale, I’m very sure lots of us would buy it! You could even potentially call it the Freya jacket as a nod to your inspiration.

Dear Janelle, you've massively inspired me to get back into my childhood love of sewing and I thank you for that. Last month I used my adult money to buy a machine, a desk, and a chair, and I cannot wait to go shopping for my first big rolls of fabric to make into beautiful clothes I will have for years and years. I may also need to find an opshop quilt too so I can follow this tutorial...
    Amazing work xx

I always look for welt pockets in coats/jackets. Most practical and visually appealing, imo. But I’ve always been too intimidated to sew them - this is the clearest explanation/demonstration I’ve ever seen. Also a great tutorial for putting in a lining. Thanks! The jacket is super cute!

I really like all the different steps, thrifting a dream fabric, drafting the pieve from a favorite jacket you love, and using the details of the fabric to make it absolutely unique. I hope I'll be able to thrift more fabric this year! And I would love to give a try at drafting.

Excellent!❤And I’m impressed that you made up the pattern as well!
Nice that the edges have cute gathered binding already made!
My only suggestion would be maybe to add a top stitch around the jacket part of the neck? It’s 4 layers of puff with the collar lining & jacket so it might lay more neatly & be a nice finish if a top stitch binded it all together just off of the neck seam?
Ps. My first welt pockets story:
I was required to include welt pockets once in one of my fashion design projects for my university course.
I had the nerve to select a very pricey fabric (trying to be boujee to get the 💯🅰️Lol) it was a wool/cashmere fabric & I designed a shoulder padded oversized boyfriend blazer. (originally on trend back then in the 80’s!)
Well I can still recall almost having a panic attack before cutting those welt pocket slits into the front of that expensive fabric on the front of my blazer! I had no extra fabric & I had to do the pockets in class while being observed…for part of the project grade!👩🏼‍🏫So..I had one shot at getting it right!😬🫢)
    ✂️✂️✂️🧥😰
But i was amazed & relieved when it all worked out! And I got the 🅰️💯😃

Beautiful. I appreciate how thoughtful you were in the placement of the pattern on the fabric. I am a little concerned that you might want something that doesn’t have an opening in the middle so much when the winter actually comes because it looked a little breezy to me. But I’m not sure how cold cold it is in New Zealand versus New York or something. Honestly, I am in Saudi Arabia right now and it’s about 50° and I’m freezing so I’m probably a bad judge of that.

Me, an American (from the North Eastern part of the US) currently in winter thinking that's to thin there's no way it will be warm enough, than I saw you made the liner from the same fabric so doubling it and I was like oh okay. But I would need a zipper for a jacket. I hate the cold so much. Like right now it's almost 3 am (I have a sleep disorder so it's normal for me to be awake now) and it's currently 36°F / 3°C and I'm so thankful for my houses new heating system because it works so well.

It's so beautifully made as usual Janelle! And you make it loo so easy hahaha. I really love how you can refer back to one of your own videos for reference. I have a question regarding the ironing of the ties.. (because once again, you make it look so easy :P) could we still use an iron IF we covered the fabric with a tea towel, or would it still melt? You tricked me lol, I thought you were going to use the ruffled edge for the sleeves too! I'm going to be on the lookout for a suitable quilt to make one!

    • @RoseryApparel
      @RoseryApparel  10 місяців тому +1

Thank you! Yeah you could try use a cloth over the top, but still this type of fabric is so fiddly and might not stay in place. I wish I had some more of the gathered/ruffle edge so I could’ve added it to the sleeves 😭
