  • Replacing the Thermostat on my Freelander 2 as it is opening too early. This causes the engine not to warm up and the heaters blow cold. This is also the same engine as the Range Rover Evoque TD4, SD4 and the Ford Mondeo 2.2 TDCI

      Thank you. Its not a bad job to do. Just go steady with that rear pipe and the plastic one with the metal clip can be a bit tight to get on and off.

      Thank you. Where does your temperature guage sit?
      Sounds to me like you could be having circulation issues. Ive never really come across the fan running in FL2 apart from been sat in traffic or having the AC on.
      I would be checking the coolant is circulating and that your waterpump is working correctly.

    Hi Jim
    I am facing heating issue in my freelander 2 2008 I remove thermostat valve but problem still not resolve any advice?

    • @lifes.projects
      @lifes.projects  3 роки тому

      Is the water circulating? If the water isnt then your heaters will stay cold. If the coolant is not circulating. its more than likely the water pump thats failed.

  • @chriswhite1644

    Looking for help on a 2001 Freelander td4. After a period of driving the temp gauge shoots up to hot but engine is fine temp. The fan comes on and it goes back to middle. Or if you turn off and on it resets. Have you done any videos on replacing this ? Before I take it to a garage and get charged the earth ?

    • @lifes.projects
      @lifes.projects  2 роки тому

      Is your coolant level ok?
      Sounds like either the water pump is not circulating the coolant or the thermostat is sticking causing it to overheat. Are your heaters warm as if they get cold quick then you have a circulation problem (water pump or blockage) if they stay warm then it would change the thermostat and see how it goes after that.

    • @chriswhite1644
      @chriswhite1644 2 роки тому

      @@lifes.projects yeah so the coolant level is fine. Heating is hot and cold is good aswell, I bought it cheap. Had been sat for a short time. I'm planning on getting thermostat changed , the temperature sensor is inside this aswell is that right ?

    • @lifes.projects
      @lifes.projects  2 роки тому

      @@chriswhite1644 yeah i would definitely start with the thermostat. Off the top of my headi think the coolant sensor is on the front of the cylinder head on the right hand side

    Hi Tom
    Would value your opinion I'm thinking of getting a td4 freelander auto what's your thoughts on the auto box? and what should I look out for

    • @lifes.projects
      @lifes.projects  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Jim. Like everything you hear more bad than you do good. Personally ive not had any issues from any people whos had the Auto FL2. The Auto FL2 usually has the SD4 engine so if you do a lot of short runs make sure you take it for a motorway run now and again to keep the DPF from clogging up.
      Another thing to look out for is rear diff problems. From late 2012 onward the rear diff had updated bearings fitted from LR so before 2012 be aware of that.
      Other than that make sure you get one with good service history and obviously been well looked after and you should be ok.

    How easy is it to remove the front sub on a freelancer 2 thanks mate

    • @lifes.projects
      @lifes.projects  3 роки тому

      Its not too bad as long as the bolts aren't seized. If they come out slightly and lock up put some penetrating oil and work them in and out until they come out fully. Check out my freelander clutch video on the channel.

    You didn't show how you opened and closed the radiator valve. That's where the hard part of the job pops up. Hose is difficult to route through. Valve is hard to turn (and possible to break it). What tools did you use to do it. That part should be on video. Not just the topping of the reservoir tank. Recommend to video those sections next time.
