18 years old, driving the family station wagon, this song comes on the radio. I did a U-turn across double lanes of traffic, raced to the record store, parked illegally, ran in shouting "Born to Run, it's called Born to Run!" The record store guy just pointed to a rack. Bought it with the only $7 I had for the week, raced back home, put it on my portable player. My little brother bounced into my room within 10 seconds. "Who IS this?!" So many great concerts since then. The album I bought that day is framed and has been on some wall of every house I've lived in ever since. For me, this song was life-changing.
@@kierstenridgway4634 lol, I had no choice. That song had the same instantaneous effect on him it had on me. Fast forward many shows and many years later, and here's email from a summer about 10 years ago (or so)... Him: Hey Bruce is playing two nights in Phoenix. Dad would give us some Marriott points. And [name of fellow Bruce tramp] can get us on the TPC course. We could golf in the day, see Bruce that night, and do it all over again the next day. Me: Jeez, it must be 110 degrees there right now. Him: 113, I just checked. Needless to say, we hopped on a cheap flight from Midwest to Phoenix and did exactly what he had proposed. :-) Best.trip.ever.
My Mom - now 82 - sat next to Clarence Clemons on an airplane. He was so charmed by her, he got her phone number and would call her from time to time. anytime they came anywhere near Columbia SC , he would call and ask her if she wanted tickets. This was pre cell phones, so it was always weird to hear his voice on our answering machine. Got to see Bruce - AND CLARENCE - several times.❤❤❤❤
I’m 60 years old-been checking out some of your reactions to the “old music”. You are one of the only reactors who actually listen carefully to lyrics, and not just dance around to the music. Appreciate ya, bro.
the sax player is Clerance Clemmons, who was with Bruce from the begining. See them when they first hit the big time, great show: Rosalita (Come Out Tonight) (Phoenix, 78) (from Thrill Hill Vault 1976-1978)
*Springsteen (and his E Street Band) is a living legend and basically the most beloved person in his home state of New Jersey! R.I.P. to Clarence on sax!!!*
First time I ever saw Bruce Springsteen lyrics was in a poetry book in a literature class. They were the lyrics to “Thunder Road”. Another great song by The Boss.
The fact you said poetic genius right away.....colleges teach courses on his amazing lyrics. He is 74 putting on 3 hours shows with stilll the same amount of passion and compassion. Definitely do Jungleland if you want to be wowed by a sax solo!!
Bruce’s live performances are legendary. He’s one of those artists where I prefer their live versions. It’s great you really eat to see his charisma and joy in this video. Studio recording still amazing and offer something different but for me I love the lives more than
I so appreciate you saying it’s exhilarating. And passionate. And the lyrics. This came out in 1975, and I knew that this man would save rock & roll. Great reaction.
That sax was powered out by Clarence Clemons, longtime E Street Band member. He was in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, playing one of the Three Coolest People In The Universe (along with Martha Davis and Fee Waybill). Bruce is the American Bard, our Shakespeare, writing and singing odes to the ordinary person, the workers, the high school kids, the mechanics, the lovers. His song "Thunder Road" is hands-down the most romantic song I've ever heard. He is and always will be the best at capturing what this country is really all about.
I saw Bruce in Minnesota 1984 when he pulled, not randomly, Courtney Cox from the audience to film the "Dancing in the Dark" video. It was a great year for concerts. I was fortunate to have seen The Clash, Bruce Springsteen, Yes, Blue Oyster Cult and, King Crimson at First Avenue. I was 22 years old. Wow. Great memories.
Great reaction for the great Bruce Springsteen. He puts on 4 hour shows and most everyone is on their feet most of the time. Pretty sure I was at this show on this tour when it came to my town. Nothing on Earth like a Springsteen and The E. Street Band show.
I’m m 62 and have been a huge fan since I was 14. I was Beach boys/ Grassroots kinda of girl. I remember sitting on my bed doing homework and I heard Born to Run come on the Radio. I hit the roof and it changed my music style. Try Thunder Road And Prove it All Night. But first you gotta do Tenth Avenue Freeze Out. It will blow your mind
They call him THE BOSS for a reason. His concerts are still epic three-hour rock and roll tent revivals, even now that he is in his 70s. A true GOAT, check out his whole catalog bro
I never saw him in concert. But always heard how the band & he played their hearts out -- no set (short) time for the show to end. His fans got best shows ever!
@@JudithHowell-qz3iv Saw him for the 8th time in February. 3 and 1/2 hours and he started at the exact moment he was scheduled to. Never been disappointed in Bruce.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. A Jersey band and we love them. Clarence Clemmons on the sax can't be beat. check out these other songs: Born In The USA/Dancing In The Dark/Thunder Road/The River. Bruce was featured in the USA for Africa, "We Are The World" video. Bruce and the Band have a long list of great music.
I agree with all of the people who mentioned "Jungleland" as the best sax solo ever!!! R.I.P. Big Man! You GOTTA check out the Jungleland (Live in New York City video!)
You are my new favorite music video reactor. You are reacting to the music I grew up with, and in a great way. Love your videos! New fan, and subscriber! Now, just to get my body to look like yours, lol.
You first saw Bruce on USA For Africa We Are the World. You were wondering who that was going back to back with Stevie Wonder! Love your reaction sir!! ❤
Love this song, not many songs hit you with so much sonically so soon as this, most build but this works big time. From his 3rd album, his 1st two albums had not sold well, this was a do or die record for him and it's awesome. Check out '10th Ave Freeze Out' next or 'Thunder Road' both from this album. Cheers.
Shon, you got to Bruce! We're talking top five here, GOAT-wise. And you get it! (Good on you, mate!). 50 songs later, you'll be amazed. Album: "Live 1975-1985. Songs from it: Backstreets; The River (with intro); Darkness at the Edge of Town; War; Independence Day. Thunder Road. Badlands. Studio stuff:; ;Jungleland; Meeting Across the River. I'm not kidding you; he's special. And genuine. And they played like this for 3 1/2 to 4 hours AT EVERY CONCERT.
Keep going! Jungleland might have the best rock n roll sax solo ever recorded. Badlands, Thunder Road, Prove it All Night, Rosalita, Promised Land, Atlantic City and about 1000 others are worth checing out.
Loooong time ago saw him here in St Louis at the Keil Opera House - only 3500 seats. Had to enter a lottery to get tickets and won for BOTH nights. First night, lower mezzanine , 1st row center. Second night, 3rd row sitting right in front of the Clarence Clemons. Amazing shows.
Great song. Perhaps his second most high-energy song behind “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)”. One of my other favorites is “The River”… a very different tone and message.
More Bruce please! Great place to start! Clarence Clemons on the sax! He passed away about 12 years ago and now his nephew is with the band. Bruce always finds a way to remember Clarence in his concerts! I have been to three of his concerts and they were energy packed and just an all around good time! Thunder Road and Badlands are must listens!

I remember when I was first introduced to Bruce in 1983. I jumped on the ride and never looked back. Envious you get to hear it all fresh. Try “Spirit in the night” from his first album “Greeting from Asbury Park, NJ.” It’s a great story song.
Bruce is outrageous !!! everything is good... his live stuff is fantastic !!!! Bruce ! ya can't go wrong with Springsteen. The sound is Electric guitar.
I can't recommend highly enough that you try the studio version next. Yes, live has an amazing passion and vitality - but the studio take is absolutely *IMMENSE* with layer upon layer of guitar, astonishing forward drive, and a drumming performance by Ernest "Boom" Carter, in what was, unbelievably, his *only* performance with the band.
All the other comments are giving lists of the BIG anthems, and they are GREAT! But at some point, try this: watch a documentary or two about 9/11, and then listen to Springsteen's album "The Rising". No one seems to talk much about this album now, but it came out less than a year after that terrible day - and the music on it helped those who heard it acknowledge everything we lost that day, and celebrate those who lived, those who helped, those who realized that we are all Americans, and that we had not been defeated. It's not BIG songs - it's what's in the songs that is enormous - music of the human spirit. Art!
