They All sang. All wrote. All played instruments. They were what we called musicians. Not many around today. I dont know if Freddie had been diagnosed yet, but it sounds like he knew time was short. "Body's aching all the time." I think this was his goodbye song for us. And his band singing, "We will not let him go." Such an emotional song.

A few fun facts about Queen:
    * Guitarist Sir Brian May has a Ph.D. in Astrophysics and built his electric guitar (Red Special) when he was 17 (with his dad).
    * Bassist John Deacon has a degree in electronics. He designed and built the amp that Brian sometimes uses to create unique sounds on Red Special. John was also involved in the band’s financial management.
    * Drummer Roger Taylor has a degree in biology (pre-med). His vocal range is better than most lead singers of other groups.
    * Lead singer Freddie Mercury has a degree in graphic design. It goes without saying that his vocal range was amazing and he was the best front man of any band.
    * All four have written #1 hits, and all are members of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Iconic Band, Iconic song. Everyone has covered this song, it has been popular for over 40 years. The first acapella portion is just Freddie Mercury multi-tracked. After that it is the whole band. Freddie never said what this song means and there are lots of thoughts on the meaning on the internet but Freddie said it wasn't about anything in particular and the meaning was up to the listener. Freddie is the lead singer and frontman of the band, but they are a true quartet, each member contributes equally to the sound, writing, harmonies, arrangements and management of the band. The band wrote their own stuff in about 15 different genres, from metal to jazz and pop, cca. 200 songs and Freddie the absolutely untrained singer could sing all of them effortless. Freddie Mercury (lead singer) was working on writing three very different songs when he had the genius inspiration to combine them into this epic masterpiece. One of the three was originally going to be called "The Cowboy Song" and is where the mention of a gun and shooting a man comes from. The beautiful harmony at the very beginning of the song is actually just Freddie harmonizing with himself on multiple tracks. Nothing else like it before or since. Not only do they sound amazing, they wrote all of their own songs, did VERY few covers. All of the members have written songs and all but John Deacon, the bass guitar master, sing. The drummer, Roger Taylor, does the most harmonizing and backup singing with Freddie.

Freddie Mercury was a musical genius. (singer/piano/songwriter). He encouraged the band to do an album called A Night At The Opera. Never before had anyone done rock music mixed with opera music. Of course it had to be dramatic. Their record company didn't want to do it, but this song turned out to be an instantaneous sensation and it soared to the top of the charts. It was the kind of music we didn't even know we needed. And I assure you it is a lot of fun to sing with friends drunk or at karaoke. Haha!

Great reaction! I'm subscibing to your channel right now! This is a very complex song not everybody likes or even "gets." It took me many listens to wrap my head around it; I just knew I loved it (I was 17 when it was released). A "rhapsody" is a piece of music with "episodes" -- changes in style, tempo, mood, etc. within one work. Bohemian Rhapsody goes from choral (in the European classical tradition) to rock ballad to hard rock (esp. all Brian May's guitar leads) to opera to hard rock and ending with rock ballad. Their amazing talent plus hundreds of hours of practice and work result in an outstanding piece of music like this. Look forward to more from you. Peace!

I first heard this in junior high and it really hit me hard and of course it was on the radio all the time but like so many people my age, I went out and bought the record and we played it over and over and over again and we sing it together at parties and it's just one of the greatest classic rock songs of all time. A lot of Rock Fans basically consider it in the Holy triumvirate with Lynyrd Skynyrd Freebird and Led Zeppelin Stairway to Heaven.

every year when I go to Oktoberfest, the singalongs to this (and Country Roads and I Will Survive - go figure) get me all choked up every time. Thousands of people in an enormous tent, standing on the tables with liters of beer in their hands, singing this at the tops of their lungs is just insane.
    try it :)
ETA: the muppets cover is also pretty rad

This song came out in the later part of 1975 and I was watching them in concert in early 1976 and this was their opener! It was so awesome to watch them in concert!

I've reviewed hundreds of reviews. This was an emotional Rollercoaster. This guy's innocent intro, to decadent midpoint of rock to operatic to finally a simple crescendo..This was gold.

I enjoyed your expression when you heard the lyrics "I don't want to die, but sometimes wish I'd never been born at all." It's my favorite lyric of all time. It's just so relatable, and really speaks to the soul. I think everyone has felt that way, at least once. Great reaction! Love seeing people discover and fall in love with Queen. Cheers!

I am so happy you loved this!! Queen is a band like no other. My favorite of all time!! I subscribed just so I could see you react to all of their iconic music. You’ll definitely want to check out Somebody To Love live in Montreal in 1981. It is absolutely fantastic! That high falsetto voice you heard is the drummer Roger Taylor who also has a fantastic voice. Can’t wait to see more! Also check out their full set at Live Aid from July 1985. It is considered probably the greatest live performance of all time. I am a HUGE music fan and love music from the 1950s through today. I was lucky enough to be exposed to a lot of different music from the time I was a kid I grew up in the 70s and 80s and there was so much great music from that time frame. If you are interested, I can start recommending some great music to you.

After this came out in 1975 and was number 1 in UK for 9 weeks, I thought they'd never have another hit. In fact they had another 15 or so hits after this until Freddie died in 1989. Freddie Mercury (Lead singer) wrote this. I was at their last concert with Freddie, which was a bit like the Beatles at Candlewick Park.

I do really hope your next Queen reaction will be Somebody to Love LIVE in Montreal 1981. It is an AMAZING performance. The drummer also sings on this song, especially at the end so pay attention if you react to it.
Your 3rd Queen reaction should be their 20 minute set at Live Aid, July 13, 1985. It was a music festival fundraiser to feed the starving people in Africa. It was about 12 hours and each band palyed for 20 minutes. It was held on 2 continents, London England and Philadelphia PA. it was viewed by 1 billion people all over the world. There were hundreds of people in attendance in just London alone at Wembly, which is where Queen did their performance.
