Plus he tried to copy Jenna's apology video, posting right after hers with a similar title and a dumbed down/watery version of what she said clearly without the heart, understanding and meaning behind the words.
he pretty much didn't care the 1st time when people noticed him being racist, then when it got more serious (somehow) THEN he was sorry. that just sounds like he's not wanting to lose his youtube page and he isn't really sorry...

Well the comedic climate was way crazier back then. South Park, Jeff Dunham, iDubbz, etc. It doesn’t make it right, but it was a big reason a lot of content creators felt it was an ok thing to put out into the world. I don’t think Shane’s controversial jokes came from a place of hate, but ignorance. And he’s shown more and more remorse for it as the years go by because he’s been growing as a person. He’s said he believes his cancellation is fair, and has expressed how deeply regretful he is that he not only did what he did-as an individual-but has also influenced his audience to probably do the same. He seems genuinely apologetic, and has stated that if some people don’t want to forgive him he understands

I unironically thought his videos were funny back in the day but I was 10 and his target audience was like 10-teens. I had no clue about the blackface or the cat thing though… I must have gotten off UA-cam before that point

Theres a difference between being a bad person and making mistakes. A lot of people used to make these kind of ignorant and disgusting "jokes", the difference is his were on camera and he's a public person. I'm not excusing his behavior, but I believe people can change and realize what they did was wrong. He shouldn't be penalized for his whole life.

Honestly I don’t think he was ever racist. The culture of comedy at the time was to stretch the boundaries. The absurdity of the obvious exaggeration is what made it funny. I think people that are trying to be hurtful are doing things in a mean spirited and harmful or violent. I don’t think he ever did that. Is it distasteful and unacceptable in the current cultural climate. But honestly look into all 80s through early 2000s comedy. Everyone would be cancelled. I think he learned why it’s hurtful. And so was truly sorry about it. I think people like to see successful people fall because of their own pain.

He talked about how he’s extremely disappointed in himself for influencing such a big audience that might have taken after him and made similar jokes because of his ignorance. Especially kids. And how he believes his cancellation was fair. I believe he’s shown a lot of growth and regret after what he’s done though, and has actively made it a point to better himself. Unlike a lot of other UA-camrs
I don't really get the upset when a white guy or woman paints the face black and pretends to be black as a joke. What is the problem? We had movies with the reverse, black guys painting their face and pretending to be white. So what?

Definitely an L take. Being someone who is actually old enough to remember the creation of UA-cam, I can say there were plenty of us who did not think it was funny back then. The world WAS different, and these days people are now socially conscious of the fact that yes, some things are actually racist and hurtful and not funny. The fact of the matter is, if your joke is based on hate at the expense of a group of people that’s probably a part of a protected class, it’s not funny, it’s unnecessary and doesn’t need to be out there to be consumed on the internet.
