I use to make my pone bread on a big cookie sheet & I would just do two on the pan. It came out a little thinner like that. That's what my kids grew up eating ❤
I think Appalachian cathead biscuits are slightly different from most that I have tasted elsewhere. But I know the South has cathead biscuits. Didn't really know of any other regions that made them.
No, not apple cider, just a splash of white vinegar (about a tablespoon) to sour the milk. I also add the vinegar if I make the recipe with water instead of milk. It adds acid that helps the biscuits to rise. Thank you for your question!
I make Mayonause Biscuits.3,ingredients. Mayo,milk,flour. Mix, drop big spoon fulls around in a basic round cake pan that's greased W/ bacon grease. Bake can't remember how long in 350 oven. I'll post full recipe. Got my husband to the alter.
All purpose flour is called plain flour. Self rising flour has the salt and baking powder included in it.

Yes, make the same way, just use water! They are delicious!
My mom would wash out her wash pan and make the dough in it. Clean it afterwards and go back to washing hands in it.

In the pone biscuits how much bacon grease did you use?
About 1/2 a cup. You can use a little more, it would make the bread more dense.
About one quarter of a cup, to one half a cup.

It can be apple cider vinegar, I used white vinegar because that is what I have on hand.
