Thank you for going through the process. Not only would it look better on screen, but its a cleaner look for the monitor itself with the cables in the back
had this monitor as a kid and never knew it had this capability, just learned about it when trying to find one to buy online. thanks for showing off some gameplay on it!
Just picked up a Commodore 1702 today my friend owns a retro store finally got back the monitor I had back in 83' at 14 yrs old yes now I just need a datasette and vicmodem then I'll have my complete setup again already have my 2 1541 floppy drives
Many years ago I tried to find the svideo-to-luma/chroma cable to hook up my old SNES to this monitor. I never could find it, but it's good to know it's a possibility.
ayyyy love the thumbnail, cutesy how you set it up ~! (just got one of these for free recently myself, mine is PAL/EU though so... doesn't show the damn date of manufacturing. ugh.)
Just got the Chroma Luma S video cable. I had to adjust how far I moved the switch to rear. At first it was fine all the way through but then the colors started to fade. When making it so that its not switched all the way through, the colors look normal.
My commodore for some reason at halfway mark on the color dial actually plays video in black and white. Anyone know my problem? I feel like if i turned the color to the strongest colors it still isn't that colorful. When i put my video and audio cables to the front of the tv outputs and hit the switch in back to enable them the color shows up a lot better but I don't want my wires to be showing through the front of monitor. Someone know why my color is bad when i plug in my video rca cord through the back of the monitor?
S-Video cables should always be JUST S-Video cables. The combined ones with Composite aren't the same, but finding a quality S-Video cable in general these days is about as hard as finding a quality SCART cable
My monitor occasionally flickers. I have yet to open up and clean it. What can I do to improve my problem? I may get it recapped or attempt to do it myself, but what are some non- invasive things I can do?

Of course, glad this helped you and hope it helps more others with this model. You will love the picture you get from it!
I just got one of these for dirt cheep at a thrift store and I’m very excited to try it like this.
cheap ? these are like €150 here.
I just recently rescued 3 of these displays so this helps a lot thank you!
My pleasure, it’s such a fun little tweak that gives you more from such a small little tv 📺:)

That's really cool though! Hook it up to a PAL C64 for a great time, PAL C64s are definitely better than NTSC C64s to play to on
I tried to hook my pc up via hdmi to composite/svdeo adapter. I bought a svideo to rca cable. it is not working.

I remember playing super Mario bros on this thing, i need to dig it out and hook it up
It’s a must do, you won’t regret it

So how does this monitor compare with a mid 2000's consumer CRT picture quality wise?
I'd say the commodore looks better IMO, probably due to smaller pixel size.
was this adapter for s-video cable available in the 90s?
I am not 100% sure, I am unable to find out when the first version of these adapter were made but I cam up with no results :( Sorry

Mine did too, make sure not to flip the rear switch all the way, moving it back slightly fixed it for me
Do the cables also work in Europe ?
These thing almost look like theres something wrong when the front cover is still there 😂
so i had an opposite experience.
Commodore Monitors are good but Sony PVMs are better and Many Philips/Magnavox TVs have the same capabilities.
The Commodore 1702 *is* a JVC PVM (rebranded), and it's superior to the Sony PVM.
