    Nice mod man, and nice video and comparison shots. Really shows how adding RGB makes a lot of difference.
    I have another weird 14" PVM knock-off, a TVLogic DBM-150HD, made in 2007. Samsung tube, shadow mask, multiformat, 800TVL, and RGB in, so definitely not too shabby. I'm in Aus as well, so maybe we got variety of these copies closer to the end of CRT's popularity, as I know real Sony PVMs were very expensive.

      Thanks! I had to read that twice when I saw multi format, that sounds like an incredible monitor and essentially the shadow mask sibling to the PVM 14L5 and would be a much more sophisticated build than this TVS monitor. Congrats!

    Digging that chill Snatcher music at the beginning. Anyway, wow, I didn't know there were more of those "not TV, not PVM" monitors, I only knew of the CVM-1270 and CVM-1271, so it's very interesting to learn more about yet another Sony (or not a Sony, lol) monitor I have never seen before, and here being modded with RGB. As usual, outstanding video. I'm not sure why YT didn't send me a notification, I have the bell on. Oh well, glad I still caught it though. Loved the hospital bed shot, freaking adorable.
    Also, I tend to borderline beg sellers that ship CRTs my way to pack it well, I link to a short packing video and have a simple diagram and still, some of them just flat out ignore it, it's sad. I even had one that said "duly noted" and still packed like crap, luckily it was a 70s PVM all metal. My PVM-1270 that came from the US wasn't so lucky, it's sad. I feel your pain, my friend. Also, same here, flashcarts for the win, only games I really care about get purchased physically, or new releases. Great video as usual, friend.

      Good ears and thanks heaps again for the kind comment! I should link a video for packing next time, didn’t even think of that. Your woodgrain Trini and panelling is looking great too! I’m learning as well through trial and error what works best to help making these videos. Keep it up Rex!

      @@MarcoRetro316 Yes, there's a very short video (it has to be short for you to have a shot at them having interest), and it has it all, double-boxing and all. The seller that shipped that very Trinitron I got that you spoke of listened, and packed it very well. I wish I could link it here, but it's easy to find.
      Your videos are great and you're funny, trust me. The tate bit was a laugh riot, everybody here laughed out loud, well done. Don't worry about numbers too much, you will do well here, just make what you like and it will eventually pick up. I love your style and humor, and I just have a soft spot for Aussies, y'all are just great.
      And thank you, I'll be playing lots of games and uploading accordingly. Next set (after the current one uploading) will be interesting, 1970s consumer Trinitron imported from Japan, RF only. I imported it because of the RF! Thank you for the compliments, always a pleasure talking to you.

    Nice video! This Chunghwa tube is very common in North American market 13" CRT TVs from the 2000s. Looks quite nice with the RGB mod, though not as "scanliney" as higher resolution pro monitors.

    • @MarcoRetro316
      @MarcoRetro316  10 місяців тому +2

      Thanks! I’ve seen a few of these Chunghwa’s in later CRT’s. You’re right, they aren’t heavy on scanlines but they are sharp enough to not give the vertical bar-effect on lower TVL consumer sets. Definitely no pro-monitor level

    Couple of points this video is hitting home to me. Nights soundtrack, I bought it on steam last night for while I wait for my saturn 3d controller to arrive. I've bought back a crt when I got my head around the basics of rgb modding, so glad I did as its a nice set and all that was missing was some caps and resistors as its a universal chassis samsung with composite jacks soldered on the 21 pin scart socket on the board. I've got a spare 14" RCA/thomson with scart that uses that chunghwa tube and looks like low use, if it was in a panasonic, sharp, sanyo set you wouldn't even question its a chinese brand tube.

    • @MarcoRetro316
      @MarcoRetro316  Рік тому +1

      Nights is one of those chill but engaging games that I can play no matter what mood I’m in. My first RGB mod was much like yours but on a TEAC and just filled in some missing components on the chassis. The Chungwha ain’t bad at all and is actually a lot sharper than another 14” consumer I RGB modded with a Sanyo tube

    I have a 14 inch tube TV from the Changhong brand. This TV has 2 composite inputs, 1 s video and one RGB input and one composite output. It's a bit unique because this is the commercial version which has an RF tuner. And yes, the tube is from the Chunghwa brand which is very good in its color production.

    • @deanagoes2791
      @deanagoes2791 9 місяців тому

      @@MarcoRetro316 No.. it's just an ordinary RCA standard.. once again this is a regular consumer commercial TV. I think this is also only for the Asian market. I still use it because the AV input varies.

    I have to say this mod is cool, I just did an rgb mod on a Samsung but I used 220 ohms instead of 75 for termination. I do not know how you increased voltage on the blanking line with a pull up resistor, did you just connect one leg to the jungle chip and the other leg to another place on the board? Sorry I’m just getting into electronics and trying my best to understand

    • @MarcoRetro316
      @MarcoRetro316  7 місяців тому

      Thanks! The pull up resistor was honestly trial and error as I left the blanking pin in circuit, otherwise had I isolated the pin then it I would’ve connected voltage as required. I’m curious, for 220ohm termination, was that to achieve the desired peak to peak voltage, or that’s what the datasheet stated? I’m learning much the same as you

      That’s an awesome pickup! I’m honestly not sure if they’re using the same chassis/video IC. Only way to know is to open it up and see if the video chip matches this one and if capacitors on the RGB lines are grounded

    Thx for video.
    I have pretty simmilar CRT. TVS 21DXA, which >500 lines.
    I am at state of finding OSD RGB pins for Jungle chip.
    Can you tell, where you obtained 3.3v for activation pin?

    • @MarcoRetro316
      @MarcoRetro316  11 місяців тому +1

      Hi! This one had a TDA8361 video chip and pin 21 was for RGB switching. Instead of introducing voltage, I kept the pin in circuit and just added pull-up resistor to which it achieved RGB blanking. Normally I would isolate the pin and tap 5v from the voltage regulator and drop it down to ~3v with a voltage divider. I suggest you look at the datasheets for the voltage regulators you see on the chassis to find the 5v regulator and go from there

      @@MarcoRetro316Well, returned to mod.
      Got 5V CCD supply current (pin 31). If I correct, that what needed.
      Now I must apply to pin 17 3.5V.
      How to lower 5V to 3.5V?
      I am pretty far from schemes, but I did some Arduino projects at university. I can only think about DC-DC converter, but you used something different.
      My jungle chip is LA76818A.

    • @MarcoRetro316
      @MarcoRetro316  6 місяців тому +1

      @MrXMaximus a simple voltage divider will drop 5 to 3.5v. Search for a voltage divider calculator and plug in a few resistor values that you have on hand, example, 5v with 100ohm and 230ohm voltage divider will net you about 3.5v

      @@MarcoRetro316Replying.
      Did the mod, but have issue...
      I see definitely RGB signal, but it extremely blurry.
      I have modded PS1, which can't do colored NTSC.
      If I connect it over composite/S-Video it is black and white signal.
      Over SCART RGB MOD, it is colored now, but as I said, it is impossible to play, because of blur.
      What could i do Wrong?
      I used 75 Ohm res to every color and to the ground, from every color 0.1uF capacitor. Each color goes to jungle straightforward.
      When OSD FS off, I can see clear composite (black and white).
      OSD FS ON, blurry rgb.

    Is it possible to mod a CRT to have an HDMI input?

    • @MarcoRetro316
      @MarcoRetro316  7 місяців тому +1

      *Technically* yes. But the HDMI signal needs to be converted to analog before sending it to the TV. The resolution would also need to be 15KHz by downscaling the video to 480i/240p
