Let it be dad’s new project to start on. Won’t cost much of anything to take it apart to the frame, send the frame to be blasted and painted, find a used motor and have dad begin putting it together.

Mike, The People In The Comments Section Have Spoken - KEEP K2!
A big cab Aerodyne KW like that is getting real hard to find, especially one that looks as good as K2.
    1. No question, it's a helluva lot of work, but will it be worth it? Yes
    2. Your subscribers are all keen to see K2 started on at some point, more content for the channel and happy subscribers
    3. If you got Duke sorted, and you are getting Smokey sorted, you can definitely get K2 sorted
    4. Majority would most likely want to see K2 on the road at the cost of selling Kenny and maybe the 359
    5. Get K2 into that shed and out of the weather
    6. You and Andrea drove a hell of a long way to get that truck, don't give up on K2 now
    7. When you finish K2, you will say to your self, "man I'm so glad I kept K2, I would have kicked myself if I'd parted ways with it"
    8. You will have to eat your own words if you sell it or worse, make it a parts truck "save the cabovers"

Mike I have followed you since you brought K2 home. But in my mind you need to part out K2 to finish Smokey and Kenny . You have a long nose thats waiting and you brought home. So with the facts of rust jacking and needs engine, I feel use K2 for parts to get the other 2 trucks running. Then fix your long hood and finish Stubby aka Stretch. Youve had a great run with Duke, got him running and to a working new home. You should be proud of that in itself!! That was truly a GREAT Job in itself!!! Get smokey finished and on the road! Ready to go to TRUCK SHOWS! Then your hood working on it!! Get Dad to help and enjoy the time together !!! You should be very proud of the several trucks you have Saved !!! You have done more than most people have in that fact. In that way you have done a great service to preserve history!! I envy your shop and your collection, but admire you for your ability to see your projects through!!

Take your time Mike! Don't part with K2! Spread these projects out over years. You'll have content for your channel for many years to come. A little hear, a little there. Don't try to finish everything at once. K2 is pretty intact. As far as a powertrain for K2, that spare Cat. 3406A may work. It might be the correct vintage for K2. K2 is fully decked out for that model. Work on them at a pace that money allows. I know you propably feel over whelmed at times. This gives you, and especially your dad, something to work on (towards) together. Your dad needs to keep busy since you lost your mom. Please Mike reconsider and take your time. Just my 2 cents.

This not a parts truck - period. Just tarp it down to minimize the weather damage and keep it for a real project. Fix Kenny and play with it for a while and sell it on as a runner. Then turn your attention to K2. That's a real keeper. Long cab aerodyne's are as scarce as hen teeth. Which are the real keepers for the long run ????

It's a nice truck to build but it gets more and more on a back burner cuz the trucks you bought later are also a lot of fun... K2 should be inside already but isn't stubby is almost done... Put stubby outside and put k2 inside to start on it... Would be great content to see it fixt up by you and youre dad! Try to find a k100 cab for some parts at a parts yard... Like a yard where you found some stuf to fix up little things.. maybe start a little fund page to collect a little more money to put in to the truck and make it youre ultimate dream k100! Now is the chance to create it but i already know if you sel the truck now i seen it again.. it would be go to waste and destroyed... That would be sad to know...
So! Stubby out! K2 in! Let it sit for a minute and build smokey 💪🏻

Hey Mike, ya got a few options.
    1. You sell K2 and regret it cuz you won’t find another like it for the what ya got it for.
    2. Make it your dad’s project.
    3. Keep it and thrash on it after the projects.
    4. Use it as a parts truck.
    5. I doubt this is doable, but how bout a collaboration with Twin Sticks to get ole K2 up and going?

It would be so good to this truck brought back to life, l did vote for it to be brought back to life in your recent survey. But yes time and money are both a small challenge for sure.
The longer it sits like you say the more it deteriorates. It needs to be covered up somehow to protect it, but if K2 has to go, please dont sell it to someone who will part it out!!!

I've read the comments and I've got to agree with most of the previous ones keep K2.
When it's gone then it's gone, you spoke almost lovingly throughout the video and even as you pointed out the bad bits it was if you were trying to kid yourself that it was so bad.
You rebuilt an engine and got the truck up and running and to a good enough standard that you've returned it to. work.
Your dad's really good with the trucks, he's home around them giving him should he wish to tinker with them possibly more than yourself due to work, give your dad K2 and then you can see it come to fruishion as we do.
Or finish Smokey at then do K2 over the long nose

    • @mikethetrucknut
      @mikethetrucknut  Місяць тому

Yes, after alot of thought, I think I have to keep it. There aren't many K100E Aerodynes in this part of the world and I think I would definitely kick myself in the arse to let it go when I've had all these plans for it. So no more trucks until K2 is in the shop and Smokey is making smoke.

    @JimJJGates Місяць тому

Ok, let's look at the Big Picture. The main thing is all the corrosion/rust, The entire rear frame section needs to be replaced. The cab has many corroded places. 2nd, you need a drivetrain. There are many parts that could be used on Kenny and Smokie. and yes you have overloaded yourself with projects. concentrate on Kenny and smokie, dad can take on the 359. If you were to do a Full Restoration on it you would need to disassemble every nut and bolt, deal with all the corrosion and probably not be able to find many parts you would need to do it right plus the cost would be in the hundreds of thousands Just ask my friend Paul Cox about his restoration of "Big Lucy" and he didn't have the rust to deal with. Sometimes the best-looking salvage vehicles can be better served as parts vehicles.

Sell Smokey as a working Truck ...but keep K2.

  • @speedandmarine9066

It can be as big of a project as you want to turn it into. Find another big cam and make it run and drive, everything else can be done as you go including the frame. A running and driving truck generates a lot more ambition to work on than a parts truck in a field. That truck is pretty solid, it should be saved.

It's all there apart from the parts that aren't. One of the best lines I've heard in a long time. I guess at times like this, you look at the bottom line and try to detach yourself from it. How much will it cost to get back on the road and how many hours are involved? If it's passed on to someone else, will the money help you get other projects over the line? If it does, then it's helped you in some way and is keeping the community going either as a parts truck or sold to another enthusiast. A hard decision, but one that might help you financially.

K2 has a solid cab should do a overhead cover for the cab section the rest could stick out ....the parts alone are worth it yes indeed....🙂👍🙏

Bonus is its mostly already stripped on chassis so sand blast and new 2 pack paint then gut the cab

I would take Kenny 2 cab completely off its frame then put it somewhere you can work on it when you can, then I would try to find a good set of used frames for it, that way you can rebuild it separately, because your right it does need a lot of work.

    G'day frpm Oz
K2 .......Its a great truck but needs loads more $$$ thrown at it than some of the other cabovers, use the parts for Kenny and Smokey, store the cab(or sell it) strip the chassis for parts for Kenny....without a driveline the cab is the only major thing going for it. IMO

You have too much on your plate Mike, and on top of that, you are still dealing with losing your mom.
Our perspective on things really changes when we lose a family member. I lost my wife almost two years ago,
and I lost my dad 11 months ago. I can honestly tell you that I look at things I used to really enjoy a lot differently.
If I were you, I would take all of the trucks out of the shop except Smoky, and focus on finishing that one.
Then when you are done with Smoky you can regroup and see which one you want to do next.
Then you will have one more truck that you can drive and enjoy, and one less that is hanging over your head unfinished.
K2 needs an incredible amount of work. Do you like it enough to start working on it, and see it through to the end ?
I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that you would rather start working on the 359 next, and honestly I wouldn't
    blame you.

Hi Mike youve had k2 for so long it deserves a chance I've never seen u work on it I see your dilemma I suggest maybe just do something on her everyday no matter how small the job then I think you get the bug to enjoy working on her she really needs the love and u can give it to her thanks Mike (binsey)in the uk thanks

I think you should stretch k2 to put the bed off low and slow on k2 sell Smokey. The sleeper looks bigger on k2 than Smokey and low and slow. More room for those long hauls like when you got Smokey. Use low and slow like you used Duke and turn dads in rv toter. IMHO😅

I would combine Kenny and K2. Take the best bits from both and make K2 into a really nice truck.
