I have owned both and the JSX is still with me.
JSX sounds impressive! The tone is full and tight. I bought the same one out of curiosity and with certain doubts about the ethnicity of this amplifier. In fact, it turned out to be the coolest amplifier with three cool-sounding channels.

Spot on with the pots. My JSX is doing both the crackle and the slight signal cutout. Original owner for 20 years now and I have the wildest love hate relationship with it. I hate it, but want to love it. Thanks for the video and great song for the comparisons! Had flashbacks to the trivium ascendancy era seeing that xxx 🤘

I prefer XXX for my playing but JSX sounded a bit nicer in these clips to me. Awesome shootout, fun to see the small differences between very similar amps.
Great shoutout! I live in Montreal and both of these amps are now selling overall around 800$ when all said and done but I still think it's a good price compared to a lot of other amps like the JCM900 for example that are still listed as like 1300$-1800$, which is crazy to me (I'm one of the few people that like the amp though it seems, but I don't think it's worth that much) haha On a side note, I have a Peavey 3120 (which is just a rebadged XXX with EL34) and putting a JJ 5751 in V2 to tame the gain a bit (so the taper is more usable) and four KT77 in the power section help this amp a lot. Imho, this amp shines with those two changes. I'm saying this if you want to try it with your XXX at some point :) It's punchy in the low end, clear note definitions and the gain is not in jour face at like 9am haha I've owned a shit ton of amps over the years, but I still have the 3120...it's probably in my top 5 favorite amps of all time. I had a Ceriatone King Kong that I really loved (and waited a year to get at the time haha) but I was still going back to the 3120 in our band practices (I had the two on top of each other) so I finally decided to sell it to finance something else because I couldn't justify keeping an expensive amp that was less played than my 800$ one hahaha
Both sound good but for me the JSX is more open and the notes have more weight to them. Cool jams Tri...really appreciate your comparison vids.

Just picked up a JSX with a VK412 for $440. Nice buy.
Great shootout, I own a 6505 and that was my go to head for metal, but when I got my jsx used about 3 years ago its one of my favorite's , but I do notice the pot/scratchy nus prob with it. Is it all peaveys that you have noticed that problem with, because my 6505 dosent seem to have a problem yet . Like I said yet.. Love the videos, thanks😀😀
Didn't know one channel was based on the Classic 30 or 50. I would assume it's the clean channel. I am using the STL Tonehub version of the JSX and the clean does sound lovely. Thank you for the video.
Satriani wanted the ultra channel from the XXX but voiced different with a little more gain, a British channel, and the Classic 50. Information is all over the place and every “expert” knows what channels are what… but they have different answers. Either way they are both great amps! Cheers -Ryan

From what I understand the JSX’s clean was based off of a Peavey Classic series, the Crunch based off of a JCM 800, and the Ultra channel was based off the Triple XXX’s Crunch channel but with more gain as Satriani didn’t like the Ultra channel on the Triple XXX but did like the voicing of the Crunch Channel. This info I actually got from Peavey when you could call them and someone actually picked up the phone.
you are correct one of the channels is or was like the classic 50 according to James Brown.
Dude I love this channel , and the way you make your videos, the guitar tests in down tunning,high gain , I'm considering a Gibson SG for down tuning metal stuff and your reviews on that shows how that guitar handles that , any issues on tunning stability ? , Can you show tips on the best way to keep tunning stability on les pauls and SGs ?,Congrats on the great job!
Lots of people complain about Gibson 3x3 Tuning Stability… in all honesty if you Tune UP TO PITCH, NEVER DOWN TO PITCH and then Tug on your strings, tune again, then tug on your strings, then tune again… then it will stay in tune. I was taught this when I first started and the only time I have tuning issues is when I’m lazy. The G String tuning issue is more of an issue on a Fender than a Gibson. Cheers -Ryan
@@Crypticmaskguitar I find that the G string becomes even less of an issue if you're using a wound G also. Not everyone makes a balanced wound G though. Most are crazy high tension. I've been using Stringjoy custom sets for years because of that.
I have also had both of these and the ultra and the triple X 2 which is the JSX rebadged. I loved them all but they all have a mid to them and they are full of knobs which can be cool but it gets old and tiresome. Now I just play at home with a dsl20 EL34 head and a black orange or15 El 84 head through a 1x12 Peavey cab with the greenback in it and a Peavey 4x12 if I want to get crazy. Good stuff
Both are great amps,the JSX has a 😮more warmer tone and has a pretty distinctive bite to it,..still both great dependable amps,.

I have a xxx and have used jsx. Both great heads. The jsx is based off the xxx.
Just sold my Triple X and got a good deal on a JSX. I thought the XXX crunch channel was the same as the JSX ultra channel but I'm having a hard time dialing it in.. JSX seems a bit more muddy and doesnt handle rhythm playing as good as the XXX... am I dialing something in wrong? did i make a mistake selling the XXX??

The contacts get corroded inside the pots. Gotta clean them out from time to time.

Man they are less different than I remember, but I have played either of them in forever though. Anything from the Ultra lineage really just screams late 90s to mid 00s metalcore to my ears, and I love that about them.
I think the xxx cuts through better overall. The jsx is slightly warmer. But kind of muddy/compressed especially when you were strumming chords. Great video. I would have liked to hear the cleans in comparison.
