I am a pensioner, with mobility issues. Got back to the gym twice a week, , in 3 months I challenged myself to do 5 k walk, for a charity. Did it in 50 minutes. The last one I did was 25 years ago. Felt so proud of myself, as prior to this really struggled with walking. Carrying on going to the gym. I had a lot of family support.x
For hydration, try eating your water: iceberg lettuce, cucumbers , tomatoes, zucchini, strawberries, spinach, cabbage, bell peppers watermelon, cantaloupe , broccoli etc. It all adds up!
Hydration-tip:1) let your smartwatch remind you every hour to drink some water 2)make hibiscustea, let it cool down and freeze it into ice cubes, it colours your water in beautiful pink shades without adding calories. 3) drink a glass of water before every little thing you eat! Best wishes from Austria
Hey, maybe your waterintake is just fine! I mean, you're plantbased and even something as dry as bread has up to 40%water. I wouldn't put to much pressure on myself. Drink a glass to every meal and snack and when you wake up, and always when you're thirsty. And you should be just fine :)
To get more water in, i add the tiniest amount of fruit juice. like 10% juice rest water and ice. I love that slight taste of juice but uts mostly water 😊
If you are chronically dehydrated try using electrolytes when you live in a dry place it may be difficult to ever get hydrated enough, add something like Celtic sea salt if you can to help with hydration ❤
Maybe it‘s not the healthiest tip when it comes to drinking more, but what I like to do, is cooking a tasty sirup out of local fruit & put a tiny bit of the sirup in my water. Then I get slowly back into the habbit of drinking more and mostly don‘t miss the sirup anymore.
I always find that drinking through a straw makes me drink more water. Like having a larger water bottle that has a straw attachment and I take it EVERYWHERE. You can also had lemon/other fruit to your water to make it taste more appealing. I guess it rlly depends on what it is that prevents you from drinking more water, ya know?
Donna Tartt is a sublime writer. You must must must read her very first novel, The Secret History. It has a bit of a cult following. I've read it three times over the years. She's an unusual author, writing one novel a decade! I adored her next book too, The Little Friend. Out of her three books, The Goldfinch comes bottom for me! And loving everything you're doing!👌
Regarding the water intake- drink a glass of it in the morning when you wake up, with any meals that you eat, before anytime you are going out for a while (not in your backyard), while you are out, when you come back inside from being outside and finally, before going to bed. You are aiming at getting between ½ to a full gallon of water each day or enough for your urine to be ever so slightly clear yellow. A word of caution- make sure to get in enough electrolytes (sodium, potassium and magnesium) with drinking this amount of water in a day.
When I lived in Colorado I had to switch to body oil/shea butter instead of lotions and facial oils for washing my face because my skin was so dry. I had a large water bottle that I made myself finish by 11, refill, finish another at 2, and the final by 5pm.
So my suggestion to go along with everyones wonderful ideas for flavoring the water is finding a cup that you not only really like looking at but also feel textually interesting. I know you dont like clutter, and you tend to keep to a lower consumer mentality, but its worth it in the way that you're more likely to hold it, and if you're already holding it, you're more likely to drink it. Made all the difference for me. I hope that helps.
My best tip for drinking water is have a bottle you like and keep it next to you all the time. I always have mine next to my bed/on my desk while I'm working and if I travel I usually take it with me too. As it's right next to me it means I just drink without thinking and it builds the habit really easily :)
taking a shower or bath actually dehydrates the body, so i drink a glass of water before and after. during the summer, i like to make gazpacho...regular way or the watermelon based one; and also cucumber yogurt soup or drinks...they are refreshing and count as hydration :)
I love The Goldfinch! One of my fav books of all time! At the beginning I didn’t know if I would finish it and by the end I didn’t want it to be over. I hope you enjoy it! ❤
Altitude affects it too. When at higher temperatures, you add more liquid. When closer to sea level, you reduce liquid a bit, as the humidity in the air does affect your bread.
In regards to drinking more water, one of the habits I’ve kept up for a few months now is what I call “morning hydration outside time”. When I first wake up, I fill up a cup (mug for me) with water and go outside… and stay outside until I finish it. I do this first thing in the morning. It gets me outside and my digestive system appreciates starting off with a cup of water. Sometimes I refill it and have more outside time, but sometimes I do just one. This feels like the habit stack stuff you like Immy 😊. Hope this helps!
For drinking water, I have one water bottle that I use everyday and take with me wherever I go, even around the house. I like the straw attachment for water bottles because you can keep your eyes focused on what you’re doing and still drink water. In the summer I like to make iced tea (no sugar) and add frozen berries for extra flavor, sweetness, and cold
Some hydration tips from someone who went from chronically dehydrated for years. Many years. To someone who now drinks 10 plus cups of water per day... 1) Start the day off with water. My first drink of the day is a fiber supliment with 2 cups of water. Im getting older, so very helpful. But it could also be a few cups of lemon water or ginger tea, etc. 2) Use a larger water bottle or mason jar or whatever you already have or can thrift.. Mine is 32 oz and I drink 2 of these a day. Combined with the fiber drink (or your morning drink of choice), it's easy to hit ten cups a day and often more. 3) Keep track of your water consumption throughout the day. Either in a notebook or bullet journal or on a habit tracker on your phone ( I use HabitShare) or just put a chart on your fridge or where you work throughout the day. I had to keep a food journal because of illness, and just seeing the section of the journal that had the water tracker was extreemly helpful to motivate me to get to a good place with drinking enough. 4) I try and keep an eye on the clock and drink a cup or so an hour from when I get up, till I achieve my hydration goals. I also give myself a chunk of time from the late afternoon into the evening where I don't drink too much, so I dont have to pee throughout the night. 5) Keep your water bottle beside you throughout the day. Goodluck from Vancouver.
Drinking more water: I use my reusable water bottle around the house! It’s insulated so keeps it cool, and has a straw so drinking feels like less of an effort. I fill it up before I go to bed and put it by the side of the bed, so the first thing I do in the morning is drink some. I also have a goal to drink three full bottles a day so I have something to aim for. Hope this helps!
My strategy to drink more water is to fill 3 jars with water and put them in the places that I spend the most time. Also, I drink my tea out of the same jars and that way I have to drink at least one water to have tea.
For each meal have a cup of water that you like the size of and try to drink it before you get up after eating. That has really helped my morning water intake doing that at breakfast. I do not always enjoy but I do it!
A lovely UA-camr I watched today was talking about what you can dehydrate. She said lemons, limes, oranges and grapefruit are great to dehydrate in slices. She has them every day in her tea. Maybe that would be a good idea for you for water! Easy to transport if you want to change your lemon throughout the day :)
Biggest tip for drinking more water I could give is to emotionally bond with a water bottle that you really enjoy drinking from!! By this I mean invest in a stainless steel, possibly cute-colored water bottle that is pleasant and easy to drink out of (big fan of the Owala), and carry it everywhere with you. Now if I leave it anywhere I am deeply sad. I fill it up with ice water probably 3-4 times a day and find myself drinking mindlessly from it!
So for water…I use a double walled steel cup w a straw and a handle. It always is filled with ice bc I don’t like anything but ice cold water. Those things help. The other thing that helps is my husband fills up my cup in the morning for me and when he come home from work too. He’s essentially my accountability partner for water. I also periodically drink a liquid IV. I live in the desert so I can also easily get dehydrated
I loved this video so much. And the food looks really yumm 😋 I've been getting into salads recently and would love it if you could share the recipes for your dressings? I've been trying to experiment as well for some variety
I use marbles. 1 marble for 1 glass of water and I strive for minimum 10 glasses of water a day. So I use two little cups, starting in the morning with one without any marble and the other one with 10 marbles & everytime I drink a glass of water, I transfer a marble. For me that helps to get enough water in 😊
Chronically dehydrated tips: less raw food, less dry food (pretzels, toast, granola, crisps, etc), emphasize moist foods (porridge, sweet potato, soups, stews, etc), minimize fermented foods. Also - massage warm oil (sesame is great) to your body once a day (before bed is great if you have a difficult time sleeping). Let the oil sit for 15 or more minutes (read, pray, meditate, listen to a book), dab off as much as you can with a towel just for this purpose, and then shower or bathe. I do this every night, and then once a week I do it to my hair. It's called Abhyanga and it REALLY helps with dry skin ... but also with calming the body and brain down.
I live in Idaho (dry, hot, and at altitude), and recently brought my sourdough starter on a trip to Minnesota (humid, slightly cooler, and basically at sea level). I was also having trouble getting my bread to turn out like it normally does at home. I relate so much to your similar sourdough experience!
Hydration: I keep a big jug of peppermint tea in the refrigerator -- I also like plain water but the cold tea is a treat (and non-caffeinated). The Goldfinch is a very fun read.
A great addition to my water has been the lemon ginger turmeric ice cubes from the channel Mary’s Nest. I add one ice cube to a quart jar to just slightly flavor the water. So sorry you got so sick 🤒
I know many people who say Goldfinch is incredible but I couldn’t get into it. I don’t usually dnf a book but I don’t regret not finishing it. Sometimes it just takes trying something else.
For dehydration, try keeping your water bottle with you and take drinks/sips throughout the day. Coconut water helps you get hydrated and is a great alternative to Gatorade. You can also consume more water based fruits like Cantaloupe or Watermelon.
I hope you like The Goldfinch. I liked it very much, though you’ll need to stick it out and push through some tough parts. Please report what you make of it.
I remind myself to drink more water by simply putting a jar on the table I work at and also an empty glass next to my sink (this way I pour myself a cup of water whenever I go wash my hands)
Northern Michigan is one of the most relaxing places ever. We have a family lake house up there and get up there whenever we have a chance. Also, as a Michigander, I've never been successful in any of my sourdough attempts ever. The temp is weird here and it never seems to turn out for me.
Instead of drinking water (I really tried everything, just can't force myself to drink that much water as I should troughout the day) I drink rooibos tea, which I consider basically water 😅 I make myself 2 liters and let it chill, than when its summer I keep it in the fridge (I also squeeze lime or lemon in, it is amazing) and than drink that all day, I read that rooibos tea doesn't contain koffein or tanins like other teas and is safe to drink in larger amounts, and also is high in antioxidants and a lot of other good stuff, so maybe consider that😊
Re: staying hydrated, I live in a super dry play too and I feel a lot better now that I’ve started having a sugar free electrolyte packet once a day. I usually add fresh lemon juice to my water in the morning and save the electrolytes for the afternoon, but if I’m really not feeling my water on a particular day, I’ll use the packet in the AM.
So My partner actually mentioned the elevation change from Colorado to Michigan may have also affected the rise of your bread 🤔 I don't know enough about bread to know if that matters or not but always love your videos and it makes me strive to try new things
I was salivating as I was watching this! I really want to try and make sourdough bagels, almond cheese (even though it contains mould, haha). You really inspire me to grow. I think your instagram approach might be quite a smart one, as you nieche down and all social media planforms like that. As to drinking more water - I'd identify what the issue is: is it taste, is it inconvenience, etc. and then work on making it obvious, attractive, easy, and satisfying. It is certainly possible! I am that person who wouldn't drink enough water and now me and my water bottle don't part. The key is to taking it everywhere - even for trips to the store.
you could try every time you eat or have a meal you have to finish a big glass of water. you should at least have 3 big glasses a day then! i also keep a glass next to my bed and the first thing i do every morning is drink the whole glass
I haven’t been around for a while due to illness but this was a really lovely video Immy. I really appreciate the calmness and not being bombarded with loud music and I love watching people making food, even if it’s meals I can’t eat myself (I have a stupid amount of intolerances.) I’m now off to find out what else you’ve been doing while I was away. 😉
I read The Gold Finch and enjoyed it. Donna Tart excels at developing relationships between her characters. I just started experimenting with making the Ayurvedic dish “Kitchiri.” I learned about it on a UA-cam video from a lady named Jeanette. (I’m forgetting the channel name right now, I apologize.) I used cardamom pods for the first time and a lot of spices. It’s very versatile and used much the same way we use chicken soup. Yum! I dehydrated a lot of meals when I attempted the PCT a few years ago. My tip is to use extra spices because my food tasted blander after rehydrating. I’m waiting for your book as I’ve pre-ordered it. My daughter and I can’t wait to make your recipes!!! Thank you for your professional videos! I always enjoy them.
And have you tried spraying your sourdough loaves with water? I’ve even some people throw an ice cube or two in a pan to increase the steam, even though the oven soring seemed okay.
On the Drink front, make some cold naturally fermented Lemons and Honey. I have auto immune issues, several, which leave my mouth extremely dry. I have found that the fermented Lemons and Honey helps me an awful lot. I tend to put a couple of slices and some of the resulting syrup into a mug and pour on hot water. Very soothing for an everyday thing, and also good when you are not too well. Helps your body. If you are poorly with a bad cold or are bunged up, it is also soothing and helps keep you from being stuffed up. I usually keep the jar in a fridge but have been going through a big jar of this a week. Lemon Barley water is good to keep in the fridge as is homemade natural Lemonade without the fizz. Both very refreshing. Also Mint tea (mix the Mints up a bit if you can. I use Black Peppermint and that is also very soothing especially if you have an upset tummy. Take care and love your ideas and recipes. Tricia
Oh my gosh, now when you said that I realized I have exactly the same fear in front of “tests”. Even if I know the topic well I feel paralyzed and not able to express my knowledge when someone starts to “test” me. Need to work on that! 😅🙏 Found your channel a couple of days ago, enjoying your content a lot. Thank you for sharing! 🥰🙏
I also recently tried the Rebel Cheeses and was inspired to start trying to make my own vegan cheeses! I wish us both successes in the kitchen, thank you for sharing your videos and hello from Michigan!
I almost never go on instagram anymore and stopped using threads altogether. Like you, I prefer UA-cam for watching, whether long from or shorts depending on mood. I’ve been experimenting with growing soya in the UK and since I last checked have numerous pods which I’m excited about and my blue Hopi corn is very tall already. It’s about 80°F here (27°C) today so very hot for the UK, which does mean I can grow stuff I wouldn’t normally, like dragon fruit which I’m also growing. I use a hydration device that straps around my drinking vessel and flashes at me when it’s time to drink. If I used digital prompts I’m more inclined to ignore or snooze, so sometimes analogue is queen.
Ooh my habits for drinking water are ALWAYS downing (or just drinking lol) half a litre when I get up and go downstairs, like immediately, so you don't even have to think about it. Then another 500ml with every meal, and then that's at least 2L. And you'll probably drink more in between :)
I know this sounds weird but just switching from a screw top reusable water bottle to one with a straw made me drink a lot more water. Just being able to grab my cup and drink from it instead of having to unscrew a lid really helped for some reason
Re: hydrating... Make sure you're getting enough electrolytes, too. My fav electrolyte drink is a couple of limes squeezed into a glass with a pinch of salt, stevia (or sweetener of your choice), water, and ice. Also, any of the Celestial Seasonings herbal fruit teas iced are another great trick of mine.
Honestly, I can only drink sparkling water. Plain water just does not feel good. I don't crave taste, I don't want it to be sweet, just sparkiling. Also, some tap water just does not taste good, and one instinctively avoids drinking it. I love the spring water we get from a spring (well, not so near), it also feels like it relieves thirst much more efficiently.
OMG where do I start????? Okay so I drink around 4 litres of water daily. The way I got there is I bought this huge 2 litre water bottle and just filled it up every morning and tried to finish that. It was fairly easy cause I’ve always loved drinking water lol. Now I’m able to finish it twice. In fact, I’m trying to lower my water intake now cause I read that if your pee is completely clear it’s actually not healthy (sorry for the tmi lmao). I’ve never added anything to my water, I just like its taste as it is. This 2 litre bottle is the only thing that works for me. ALSO THE GOLDFINCH!!! Omg. I’m also in a reading slump and I’ve started this book. It’s so crazy that I watched this video today and we’re literally in the same situation 😭😂 I’m finding it hard to continue the book tho, idk if it’s cause I’m just not in the mood, or if the book isn’t as interesting as I expected it to be. But I wanna finish it, hopefully it’ll be worth it!
Hi-recognize that rice bag, life saver during covid! Re: H2O, we find that adding the liquid IV packets helps my aging husband get more water intake, he loves the taste. Mint, cucumber, and/or strawberry works for me too- Also, I know this is late but did you happen to hit up Veg Fest in DEN this weekend? We missed it 😞
I really enjoy the novels of Barbara Kingsolver -- you might enjoy them. In order to drink more water, I actually make lots of iced caffiene free and unsweetened herbal tea which and drink those. If you haven't visited the Celestial Seasonings Tea factory in Boulder I highly recommend. :)
Books, bagels, bread, and beautiful places… so much to love!! And can I just say YEASS to Tiny Free Libraries (from the wilderness teacher librarian who is always keen to hear more about what you’re reading). If you’re doing “100 Days of Recipes”, can I volunteer to do “100 Days of SV Recipe Testing”??🤣 Glad to hear you’re feeling better. If your latest plan for IG does not meet your expectations may I recommend “100 Days of Things That Just Feel Right”? Cuz tbh, Immy, you’re great at whatever you post!! Thanks for this awesome video. BTW, I haven’t got a fear of tests, but I am not fond of being evaluated in anything… says the gal who is currently gone back to uni. Happy August… Autumn is on its way!! Ⓜary💕
To get back into reading: if you like horror I’d highly recommend Catriona Ward. Her books are gruesome and bizarre. But I’m on my 3rd book of hers, and the non-linear story telling and layered mysteries keep you hooked.
Love your videos. They are so calming. :) also, I don't know if this will interest you but will share just in case! I saw a nutritionist this year and learned that I needed a little less regular water than I thought I needed but she recommended a liter of electrolyte water in addition. (you can look up how much water you need based on body weight but I drink about 1/2 ounce of water for each pound that I weigh). I make the electroyle water everyday now and I went from being dehydrated to now having normal levels of hydration (I test them every month in her office with a machine called inbody). In case you'd like to try it, the recipe is 1 liter water, 1-2 limes, 1/4 tsp iodized salt (not himilayan or sea salt), 1 tbsp sugar or honey for non-vegans. It's also really delicious so it's easy to get it in!

Ooo I love her first book. I enjoyed it so much. But the reviews put me off the second.
@@micivalantincic8227 Oh do read it! The prologue is like a mini novel in itself, so good :)
If you like sparkling water… I got a soda stream and just carbonate regular water, add ice, put in cute waster bottle!
Thanks for being brave and showing what it feels like to be proud of your accomplishments. I needed that motivation today. I'm sorry you got sick!

Mountain rose herbs just did a great recipe on their blog for iced tea cubes that you can add to your water. They are pretty good.

Crush berries, add to water or make into ice cubes. Add lemon or mint. I add electrolytes in the hot summer months. It tastes good, so you drink more.
Bagels are sooooo helpful for making filling yet quick breakfast sandwiches!!!! And they come in so many flavors: plain, sweet, savory, spicy
If you haven't read The Unmaking of June Farrow, I highly recommend it. It's not a difficult read, but it's a wonderful read.
4/5 of the Goldfinch made it almost my favourite story ever... Be intrigued to know what you make of it!
Please report what you make of it.
for the water thing I add some Gatorade powder to it and LOTS of ice. Its simple but it works for me
I remind myself to drink more water by simply putting a jar on the table I work at and also an empty glass next to my sink (this way I pour myself a cup of water whenever I go wash my hands)
Add lemon , or cucumber with mint to your water. I make a pitcher and leave on the counter to remind me to drink it
Northern Michigan is one of the most relaxing places ever. We have a family lake house up there and get up there whenever we have a chance. Also, as a Michigander, I've never been successful in any of my sourdough attempts ever. The temp is weird here and it never seems to turn out for me.
When it was cold at my house, I found putting my starter in a insulated lunch bag with it partially open kept it warm enough.
What really works for me drinking more water is smaller drinking glasses (feels less intimidating) and cooling water to be ice cold un the fridge 😊
Northern Michigan is beautiful. I'm from near there. I'm sorry you were so sick, but glad you feel better.
Add electroylites to your water. It was a game changer for me (I get fewer migraines now)
I just keep a reusable water bottle with an easy way to drink like a sport spout or straw with me at all times.
you could try every time you eat or have a meal you have to finish a big glass of water. you should at least have 3 big glasses a day then! i also keep a glass next to my bed and the first thing i do every morning is drink the whole glass
I just started experimenting with making the Ayurvedic dish
“Kitchiri.” I learned about it on a UA-cam video from a lady named Jeanette.
Ok, I watched more of the video and realized you already mentioned the spice thing. (Oops.)
I absolutely love the calmness in your videos
And have you tried spraying your sourdough loaves with water? I’ve even some people throw an ice cube or two in a pan to increase the steam, even though the oven soring seemed okay.
Watermelon ice cubes are delicious
Found your channel a couple of days ago, enjoying your content a lot. Thank you for sharing! 🥰🙏
I do it two ways , either fill up big Ikea vase and just use it as”hydration meter” or drink a glass of water whenever I am in a kitchen.
Hey, "Evelyn Hugo's seven husbands" is great! I still remembered I cried sincerely!
ahhh it will be so nice to see more of you on youtube, i've missed you over the last several years
How do you style your hair? I know your natural hair has a different curl pattern but the loose curls look so natural and relaxed!
I also recently tried the Rebel Cheeses and was inspired to start trying to make my own vegan cheeses! I wish us both successes in the kitchen, thank you for sharing your videos and hello from Michigan!
tip to add to straws and ice -squash!
I'm not on Instagram, not a fan, but I will always follow you and all the shenanigans right here!! ❤❤❤❤
I love your recipes, please do heaps more cooking. Love your channel, Queensland Australia
Ooh my habits for drinking water are ALWAYS downing (or just drinking lol) half a litre when I get up and go downstairs, like immediately, so you don't even have to think about it. Then another 500ml with every meal, and then that's at least 2L. And you'll probably drink more in between :)
a spoonful of jam in your water. lemon, salt for electrolytes. Make it a mocktail!
I know this sounds weird but just switching from a screw top reusable water bottle to one with a straw made me drink a lot more water. Just being able to grab my cup and drink from it instead of having to unscrew a lid really helped for some reason
All the dishes look so good - glad you are feeling well once more!
Thank you for introducing me to the rainbow plant life palak paneer, I've been obsessed with it lately!
Your tempeh looks amazing!
Beautiful and inspiring video. I love your content and approach thanks so much for great content always
Do you like tea? I drink constantly because I love my tea and I bring my tea everywhere!
We missed it 😞
I just freeze lemon slices and add them to my water bottle. Keep the same ones in all day just keep topping it up. X
I loved The Goldfinch!!!!
What kind of pens do you use to mark your food containers?
Enjoyed the video, as always!
I use a 2L water bottle and bring it everywhere.
So I know I have my mimimum if I drink all of it, 2 is even better.
Fantasztikusak a receptjeid , én 1 éve vagyok vegán , de nagy nehézséget okoz hogy mit egyek , még mindig tanulom a vegánságot , ami nem könnyű.
Hi, from what I know, you can drink coconut water , I heard it's twice more hydrating than a plain water. Or you can add electrolytes to your water.
Hey Immy! What was the last book (with ayurvedic cooking) that you recommended? I couldn't understand. Thank you 😊
You can be very proud of you, i know what you feel . I am very scared of a lot of things and I also trie to surpass myself.
