Hello everyone! I want to share a full life update with you very soon, but I thought this would just be fun to share with you now! I’m still very new to standup, but my goal is to ideally do an hour-long set sometime this year. I felt good about this set because I felt more relaxed onstage and was rushing less than usual, which I am specifically trying to work on. All of these jokes are very new so if you have any feedback and would like to share it with me, I definitely appreciate anything!
I have been so bad about staying consistent with my UA-cam uploads recently, so I apologize! At the beginning of the year I said my goal was to make one new series pilot each month, but then my focus began to shift towards making short-form videos on TikTok and Instagram, because I’ve been having so much fun making those! I want to update you fully soon, I have missed making UA-cam videos recently, and If you would like to watch the Tiktok and instagram videos I have put a link to those in the description! Also if I am able to work my way up to a one-hour standup comedy set this year, it would be very cool to post that to UA-cam if people would be interested in seeing that!
I hope you are doing awesome!

dax, when you rewatch your comedy standup, write down your jokes organized from "most laughs" to "least laughs" based on the percentage of people in the audience that laughed out loud (estimate based on approximate number of people in audience and how many people you heard laugh). repeat this for several comedy stand ups. then, you will have several organized lists. take the top 1 - 3 jokes from each of these lists and make a brand new list. this will be your "golden routine", filled with only the best jokes you've ever had that made the highest number of people laugh. give a title for this "golden routine" and save it. then, start this process over until you have another "golden routine". once you have enough golden routines for an hour long set, then you will have the best material you've ever had with the highest chance of getting lots of people to laugh.

      @huvrmedia 4 місяці тому +2

@@Daxflame hey Dax! this does feel like incremental improvement honestly. Got a few snickers and laughs! Something that I noticed while watching this longer set is that your notepad of jokes is really more like a list of ideas for jokes that haven't been written yet. Some of them are funny premises for a joke that you've brainstormed or written down when it pops into your head in day to day life but I think you really need to take the list to a desk with a computer and flesh out the ideas more into actual jokes. With a setup and a punchline and really think about the delivery. Study other comedians joke structure and try to write your own jokes based on these ideas. And when you're out doing open mics and one joke gets a couple laughs, that's a signal to dig deeper into that joke and keep working it and seeing what gets better reactions from the crowd. And once you have a few really good jokes that consistently get laughs, open your set with those jokes to really get the crowd warmed up, I like that you're getting up on stage and sharing the process with all of us. It does make for great content. :P I think you're going to keep getting better and I look forward to hearing the whole crowd erupt into laughter one of these days. :)

My biggest feedback would be to make each joke simpler. Everything you say should either continue the story or build the setup for the punchline. The more extraneous details you add, the harder it is for the audience to follow.
It's also important to have faith in the audience. The lady at the grocery store bit was very funny, but your longwinded rationalizations of every action you took undermined the absurdity. The escalation of which, was essential to the punchline landing.

You might have just saved my life. Your TikToks, vlogs, docs, features, game shows have all cheered me up and distracted me. Thank you so much. I used to do almost this exact kind of thing back in highschool; it's like anti-anti-comedy: Neither cleverly funny, nor ironically unfunny...just unrelentingly and unapologetically mild and discomfiting. It's sort of nihilistic, but you have to appreciate that it's a holistic practice that not just anyone can throw themselves into. It's like being a great pianist, but you're not trying to be great, good, or even awful--you're just deliberately middling without dropping any hint that you're the wiser. You would be the only person in on the joke, but you can't even really call it a joke...and that doesn't even make it a joke...and THAT'S the joke. 😅

I thought this was a solid set my guy great job loved the energy and the jokes I thought it was really funny my dude
Note1: when asking a question leave enough room for a beat (like a pause) not to short and not to long but you’ll have time to play with your set over time to see how the crowd reacts to see how you wanna play
Note2: you have a quirky personality that I think draws people in which me personally I enjoy so have fun with that and play into it and I think you’ll develop a unique style
Note3: you have a natural charm thats inviting to people so just sharpen the story telling (the material is great!) for example when reading a story to a kid to keep them engaged the story teller makes it sound way more magical than it actually is so I think it’s only a matter of time once you got your stage persona down to apply the “magic” to the comedy
I think you got a lot of great material and once you got your rhythm and groove down I know you’ll strive level after level best wishes man keep recording your sets and taking notes and have fun cause if your having fun so is the audience you got this can’t wait to see more 🤙🏽

Dax's comedy is very interesting to me.
It is entertaining and very authentic. He's a completely unique performer.
That said, a lot of the set is made of things that aren't jokes, like how Dax takes time to state how people should stop saying mean things about the Aussie breakdancer. That's not a joke in any sense. Same thing when he says he doesn't want to play video games because he's concerned it might get him addicted. Again, no discernible joke there.
That said, he is effortlessly entertaining in an anti-comedy way. Asking for feedback mid set is absolutely hilarious.
PS. Dax, the bit about intrusive thoughts has definitely been done before by Jim Carrey in the 90s.

Great work Dax! If I could give one suggestion, it would be to tie your jokes together. Now, you're saying one joke after the other, and they don't relate at all, which can make transitions really tough. For example at the beginning of the set you make a joke about your girlfriend being non-existent, and then saying you wish you were cool in an unrelated joke. You could tie those together by making a joke about how you don't have a girlfriend because you're not cool or something along those lines, which would make the jokes flow better. Good luck!

Great work dax. It would be great to see the moments between the jokes too instead of having the jump cuts in a video like this, it's nice to see the full audience reaction and how you begin each joke. Got some good laughs in this set!

I think the biggest tragedy about Dax is how seriously he wants to succeed but no one really takes him serious. Everyone likes to speculate on wether he plays a bit or not and at the end of the day, if you watch enough of his content you can't help but realise this man is just set on success and making money. He has lied about stuff and has back paddled a lot. He doesn't shy from trying anything and everything to make it. He is endearing and he has his charm, but he has a tragic and poetic story. Bless him.

Dax, you don't need to force yourself to tell jokes you just need to introduce yourself. That's what makes you unique and interesting.

i think the main thing is how you rush through your jokes, part of the charisma and confidence with standup comes from confident pacing and allowing things to set

I love the avant garde nature of this set, you have a similar style to Steven Wright (but more chipper, in the best way possible of course) in your delivery and as the jokes get better, which they most definitely will seeing the trajectory of your stand up, your style of comedy will become more and more appreciated. Awesome set! You’re killing it out here and I’m happy to see that :) 👍

Dax! I'd love to give you some feedback. First of all I want to say I really enjoy your style of humor and entertainment in general. You are always very kind and nice, wishing everyone a nice day and checking in with the audience. I think this is a neat strength of yours a lot of comedians don't consider in their acts. The stories you share were especially funny to me! You tend to have a nervous air about you. I've noticed this over the years in your videos and it translates in your stand up as well. This certainly isn't a bad thing as you can play into the awkwardness to make something even funnier. Don't worry about what people are thinking about you, we all want you to succeed! Be yourself and keep sharing it with the world, the successes you've had I think are due to the fact that you are un-apologetically YOU. Please keep doing this! I don't see you as a mainstream comedian, I think you could do something even bigger by bringing the audience who enjoys your style to you.
