@ Brian I read the bio to this game in a gamer magazine shortly after it came out. Bought it the next day! To this day, it's still the best game I've ever played!
Nah we knew. The gameplay of this game always felt unique. Great story and the fact you had to find alternative ways to impale your enemies was interesting.
Rudely don´t really work in this sentence. Unruly is probably a closer fit.. I´m not 100% but it sounds a little better as a native Englishman who Raziel is loosely based on.
Raziel to Dumah: "My bloodthirst has been superseded by an even darker hunger. I will consume your soul before this day is done." That was always one of my favorite lines.
The fascinating thing about the game's narrative is that Melchiah and Rahab at least were fully in board with their own destruction, fighting in arenas designed to kill them. Melchiah is the most understandable, being nothing more than a rotting mass of flesh probably almost as tormented by his condition as Raziel was. Rahab is more intriguing though, was he just following orders or did Kain have to explain his motives and convince him? Zephon is seemingly just lost to hunger and is immobilized in any case while Dumah's arrogance got the better of him immediately.
They're all hopelessly lost in one way or another Possibly, it started after Raziel-s execution dissolusioned their empire, forcing them to eventually abandon it and skulking away deep in their hovels Melchia was the weakest, less favoured son trapped within a patchwork of corpses and yearned for a chance to die Zephon, as you say, had gone mad through his insect-like mind and ravenous hunger Dumah had gone mad with delusions of superior power Rahab, perhaps due to his immunities to water, saw himself as superior also and still blindly served his absent master to the last whike seeing Raziel as a traitor
@SamuelBlack84 Kain did speak with Rahab at least once before the final showdown, though... and unlike the other brothers. Melchiah still believed Raziel was killed because he evolved first, Zephon and Dumah couldn't be talked to, and nothing in Raziel's talk with Turel involved Kain, just that he knew Raziel had returned and was killing their brothers before being abducted... although TBF, he was both possessed by the Hylden and driven insane even beyond that, so the evidence there isn't as strong. That's what makes Rahab's case so much more intriguing to me, all the others can be easily explained as some combination of wretched/devolved/arrogant except Rahab.
After many many games, this is still the #1 for me, my first real ❤️ed character (Raziel) and on the podium there is another chapter of LoK; it's the last one, Defiance. The whole history, since Blood Omen 1 till the 5th chapter, is absolutely crazy: I've never been crying during a videogame, but I did at the end of LoK: Defiance for how Raziel ended
I first played Soul Reaver in 2002 when I was just 13 years old (included with a PC gaming magazine) and a lot of the dialogues completely went over my head. This game’s story and writing is already so well done that I personally feel a movie is unnecessary. Maybe a series that expands the lore, but no need to tell the same story u less it’s a game remake.
I would love to see this franchise relaunched on the ps5 with unreal engine 5 graphics, this is 1 of my favourite franchises ever all the blood omens and legacy of kains, there a master piece of story telling and gameplay. I've tried to get them again but can't find them
I think it was his first real test at the coin flip. If raziel dies in the pit how could his soul be bound in the reaver. I think it was his first attempt at making a massive paradox.
As much as I love the Legacy of Kain series for it's impeccable storytelling. The games needs to be remade with quality of life modifications and better graphics. This would be a perfect series to reboot. Starting with Blood Omen 1.
0:01 - Kain is Deified 3:30 - The Rebirth of Raziel 11:35 - Melchiah's Change 14:00 - "Am I reduced to this? A Ghoul? A Fratricide!" 14:31 - "Return to the Sanctuary of the Clans Raziel... but beware however this hollow derelict is abandoned but not uninhabited!" 14:49 - Confrontation at the Pillars 17:10 - The Soul Reaver Destroyed 18:50 - Enter Ariel 20:48 - Raziel muses on (the now Silenced) Cathedral 21:24 - Zephon's Change 31:49 - The Fate of Dumah's Clan
As I watch this again and again Rahab at least was shocked by what Kain did, Perhaps Melchiah also. I cant work out if it was Turel or Dumah that was uneasy about casting Raziel into the Abyss
I loved this game. Bought it on the Sega Dreamcast, thinking Dreamcast was gonna last😅...still, a great game. I played Blood omen on PS 1 and it was good too but this, dammmmmn. Loved it.
I hope that some day, that Soul Reaver will have a PS5 remake sometime in 2025 or 2026. But this remake will add in all of the cut content that was supposed to be in the game but was removed for a holiday release date. The cut boss fights like the Human Priestess and Turiel, the cut Smoke Factory level, the cut final boss fight with Kain where Raziel finally kills him and the cut finale where Raziel unleashes the sound wave from the cathedral and kills all of the vampires, but soon realizes that the Elder God was just using him. Raziel then decides to go back into the past and save Nosgoth from Kain's arrogance.
Interesting to note: Ariel's dress. She died in a red dress, but her ghost haunts the pillars of the past wearing a white frayed dress. Here that same dress is dark, almost black. I'm not sure if it's intentional, but it matches the pillar's state of decay, which makes sense as she stands watch over them, bound to them.
Actually the cutscenes do it more justice than the actual gameplay. I won’t lie but be warned that game control systems during the 2000 era, will murder you if you don’t learn and take your time.
Is there a game today that even comes close in terms of story and atmo? I still remember the first time Raziel enters the Sanctuary of the Clans Building after centuries have past. And later at Part 2 or 3 where he realised who he was and fought his own self! Not even in movies that story. "...and we all now one step closer....to our destinies"
Sadly, we're only getting a remaster. Not a remake. As someone commented above, just imagine the game running in Unreal Engine 5. I'll take what we're getting for now, waited 20 years already. Hopefully future installments will look as good as it could.

one small mistake that bothered me with later games in returning to this one. Kain kills the other guardians to purify their pillars. But the balance pillar was also rotted (we see it in the later game) yet in this game, its not rotted and he's crafted a throne into it.

Thank you for this,i enjoy every dialog of this game, my favourite game of all times!
If i ever hit the lottery i swear ill pay the team the remake this entire series i swear i will ❤
18:03 This line is perhaps more true then they realized while making SR1.
I would love to see this franchise relaunched on the ps5 with unreal engine 5 graphics, this is 1 of my favourite franchises ever all the blood omens and legacy of kains, there a master piece of story telling and gameplay. I've tried to get them again but can't find them
At the intro, Kain already knew Raziel crucial role in Nosgoth history as the soul inside the reaver.
I think it was his first real test at the coin flip. If raziel dies in the pit how could his soul be bound in the reaver. I think it was his first attempt at making a massive paradox.
Never noticed the wings being see thru
Kain out of jealousy ripped out Razael wings. He felt his throne was in danger against a flying vampire.
As much as I love the Legacy of Kain series for it's impeccable storytelling. The games needs to be remade with quality of life modifications and better graphics. This would be a perfect series to reboot. Starting with Blood Omen 1.
0:01 - Kain is Deified
3:30 - The Rebirth of Raziel
11:35 - Melchiah's Change
14:00 - "Am I reduced to this? A Ghoul? A Fratricide!"
14:31 - "Return to the Sanctuary of the Clans Raziel... but beware however this hollow derelict is abandoned but not uninhabited!"
14:49 - Confrontation at the Pillars
17:10 - The Soul Reaver Destroyed
18:50 - Enter Ariel
20:48 - Raziel muses on (the now Silenced) Cathedral
21:24 - Zephon's Change
31:49 - The Fate of Dumah's Clan
My favorite story for any game I can remember, so intelligent brilliant as well as awesome voice actors
What about Blood Omen and Defiance?
When me and a friend saw that opening I told him one day games are going to look like this, he doubt me
I demand a remake
15:44 wait a minute, I heard this one before lmao sounds just like DAVEY JONES.
Who wants this game Remastered???
Interesting to note: Ariel's dress. She died in a red dress, but her ghost haunts the pillars of the past wearing a white frayed dress. Here that same dress is dark, almost black. I'm not sure if it's intentional, but it matches the pillar's state of decay, which makes sense as she stands watch over them, bound to them.
I noticed that too. Maybe her ghost doesn't wear what she died in but what she was buried in?
Actually the cutscenes do it more justice than the actual gameplay. I won’t lie but be warned that game control systems during the 2000 era, will murder you if you don’t learn and take your time.
The Wheel of Fate turns once again!
You could literally take all this audio and make an animated series of it
The story is fucking unreal!!! What a game!!!!!
Finally, been waiting for this remake for years.
Sadly, we're only getting a remaster. Not a remake.
As someone commented above, just imagine the game running in Unreal Engine 5. I'll take what we're getting for now, waited 20 years already. Hopefully future installments will look as good as it could.
@@murkyspectre yeah but i bet they would screw up the remake big time
@@bds4410 Not if we insist that they don't. Any of that sick and twisted DEI stuff and I'm out. Surely we all know by now to vote with our wallets, with world finances looking the way they are, it would be foolish not to know what the product is before you buy. In this case, the pre-order was a no brainer. Would be awesome if the woke crap has imploded by the time LoK remasters are in the works.
It’s finally getting remastered both soul reaver 1 and 2, coming this December.
One of the first games I bought for my Dreamcast along with shenmue 1, grandia ll and gameshark lite!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😃😃!!!
Can't wait for the remaster to drop
I forgot how awesome the graphics were for a PS1 game.
I think this is the Dreamcast port.
One of the great games. I never really got into legacy of kain and sr2
I love the voice of the ancient One
The Late Great Tony Jay.
God, thank you for this. I miss this game so damn much.
The game looks good. Thumbs up 👍
one small mistake that bothered me with later games in returning to this one. Kain kills the other guardians to purify their pillars. But the balance pillar was also rotted (we see it in the later game) yet in this game, its not rotted and he's crafted a throne into it.
WE GETTIN A REMASTERED YALL
Imagine this remastered 😪😪
Incredible story. Huge fan
Yeeeh!!! We are getting a remake!!!!!!
You are worthy....
MASTERPIECE
i loved this game just because it was a thinking game made me fall in love with tomb raider
13:30 me on the toilet at 3 am after 23 del taco quesadillas
Less is more malchiaih tarel and rehab had the greatest gifts malchiaih was one of the most invulnerable and most useful gift last is 1st and sometimes toughest by him receiving poorest portion of kain gift to me he inherited mist form gift he also almost couldn't be hurt
Everybody has a favorite goosebumps quote. Mine is:
Elder God:
In the furthermost canyon of Nosgoth’s frozen wastes, the hushed silences embrace an ancient enigma. In the bowels of this labyrinth, your master awaits...
The hypocrisy I still say kain was jealous and surprised they added kain pretending to care about raziel in defiance imagine what life would have been like the blessing of being a vampire with wings
That intro always hits
