    You will get a much cleaner casting if you will preheat your graphite mold to a higher temperature (red hot) before pouring the gold. Any great variation between mold and metal temps (even just a slightly cooler mold) will cause cold casting issues in the finished bar. Also best to keep full heat on the poured metal for a longer period to help extend the molten state to allow the metal to fill all of the voids. Not real important for simply casting for scrap, but does produce a much nicer finished bar.

    I'd love to see a break down of the cost for the raw materials (karat gold, chemicals, etc etc ) and labor vs. the value of the bar today.

      It's all down to how cheap you can get the raw materials (jewelry).

    • @TheSpektralOne
      @TheSpektralOne 3 роки тому +2

      most of those chemicals are made on industrial scales so can be procured inexpensively

    • @isaacclark9825
      @isaacclark9825 3 роки тому +3

      Most of the chemicals are quite cheap and not hard to buy locally. Only the nitric acid either costs much of anything or is difficult to get. I once asked senior chief why he uses HCL instead of saltwater to precipitate silver, and he said HCL was more convenient. So HCL must not cost much of anything either. You can get some stuff cheap from overseas (urea, sodium metabisulfite) but that may not be worth the trouble.
      I doubt that he used more than a few dollars worth of electricity.
      So it is all about your labor, the price of nitric acid, and how cheaply you can get karat gold.
      To make money, you have to get bargains on the gold. When you buy stuff from folks you have to cover the times when you buy stuff that turns out not to be worthwhile.

    That's a lovely bar! You always say that precipitation is your favourite part, when refining my first bar I found the melting and pouring of the bar to be the most satisfying to me :)
    Also, people might not realize, but that must have been a lot of hard work! Including the recording and and editing of the video, which substantially adds to the time it takes to refine the gold!

    • @sreetips

      That is an understatement. For the viewer it must look easy. But its a Giant pain getting everything ready to shoot and make it happen like you want. I pour 110% into production and editing. It takes a toll on me and I’m an absolute mess for a day or two after I get the video posted. Especially if I’m up till 3 or 4 am. I may appear calm and in control during the video, but I edit out all the cussing and illness when something messes up. Comes with the territory.

    Hi there, awesome video, just a piece of advice, to get a shiny bar, first melt the gold and pour it into a large bucket of water so that the gold will become granulated. Once granulated, put the granules into your mould and then remelt the gold in your mould with your blow torch, the gold will have a shiny surface once it reaches melting point and then let it cool slowly down, it will look like a bullion bar.

    Sorry about my previous comment on the gas I just noticed it was 3 years ago. Important tip my good friend, turn your acet and oxygen down or remove, but always turn the acet off first and you won't get any ruff surface. Fast pour will do away with the layered look on the side of your bar. Spent most of my life with a touch or stinger in my hands. Love the knowledge you bring to the table sir.

    Mr. Sreetips, even though you mention painful parts of the process, for me was another MAJOR learning opportunity. Specifically for the cases I still have excess Nitric. My prentice level of experience, combined with all that come together, I never take the time to process the gold with SMB. After 5 min I consider failed and put solution with other "failed" batches to be reprocessed. This again was straight to a large question mark I had and mistakes I was making. THANK YOU!

    Nice result mr Sreetips. I appreciate you turned up the volume a bit, by the way, although it might still be a little bit louder in my opinion. Also, I keep wondering to whom you entrust transport of your bullion? I mean, who could be trusted to transport such a valuable item as this heavy gold bar?
    I do wonder how much the refining process costs, but I think in the end, that doesn't really matter since you refine precious metals for fun primarily, and costs are not so very important in that case I would say :)
    Either way, well done!
