I have suffered with pain that radiates from my lower back, down into my hip, across my thigh into the inner part, all the way to my ankle. To be able to walk without struggling to balance and minimal pain in the inner thigh is a Godsend! Thank you helping to improve myself and many others physical and psychological well-being!

My doctor gave me some physical therapy to do and it has helped, but not a lot. I'm back to the point of questioning whether i will be walking tomorrow. I'm going to try these right now. Thank you very much for taking time to make this video.

I only recently learned about the SI joint from my pain management doctor. I thought all my lower back pain was being caused by bulging disks in my lumbar region, which clearly showed up on an MRI. This causes chronic pain that is _only_ relieved by opiates.
The first time I injured my back was almost 50 years ago, after breaking concrete with a 90 pound jackhammer for several hours. I felt fine until I got home and lay down, and then muscle spasms apparently threw that SI joint out of alignment. I couldn't even sit up to get out of bed. The pain subsided gradually over three days. The only thing that showed up on an MRI at that point was the damaged disks, so I thought that was the source of *all* the problems.
For decades, I lived with the lumbar pain, which would occasionally also include more intense pain just to the left of the spine. I never understood that was something else, but it felt like it was a slipped joint of some sort. Only now, after all those years, do I realize the original injury that completely immobilized me was not the lumbar vertebrae, it was that SI joint.
Today, sometimes when I get out of bed and take the first few steps, I can feel that joint trying to slip out. I'm able to keep it in check by tensing up momentarily to help stabilize it. I know that if it does manage to slip, I'm going to be in agony for about three days. Your video has helped me to understand what was actually going on. I'm convinced that inflammation from the chronic lumbar pain sometimes causes muscle spasms, which are what try to yank that joint out of alignment. Thanks for explaining this so clearly!

You guys are the best! I had some major SI issues not long ago, but I am steadily recovering and not backsliding despite increasing my activity (yay!). Some ppl might find it useful to know that their sleeping situation might cause/worsen SI joint pain. My pain went from being a small bother here and there (with some moderate flare-ups) to being a major issue after I changed mattresses. I used to sleep on a very firm mattress on the floor, and then I changed to a squishy mattress on a regular bed frame. Also, the mattress was older and seemed a bit sunken in the middle (so I was essentially crooked all night). I began sleeping on the floor (on a camping pad over hardwood flooring) this past summer, and I have felt better and better. No more mattresses for me!

Okay, so I had to come back to offer my sincere appreciation for this gem of a video presentation. I have been suffering from SI pain since 2015 I assume from my sedentary lifestyle. I used to shift my weight to one side causing the pain to manifest on my right side. Recent x-rays show inflammation in that area and now I finally know what my pain actually is. Seeking for relief I stumbled upon this video and tried the exercises and wow, I am just completely elated. I started feeling better immediately. Thank you, thank you, thank you. These three exercises are going to be the mainstay of my stretching routine for years to come.

Might I suggest two things to combat inflammation? #1 coconut oil, a powerful anti inflammatory. #2 home made kefir milk - even more powerful than coconut oil. Most of all a well known diet for low inflammation is the ketogenic diet.

I pulled my muscle connected to my ischium, on the left in 2001 and I've been compensating by sitting on my right leg for years. Incredible it took this long for it to finally give out. Although, I have done various forms of stretches over the years and self massage. (I'm a massage therapist). Thanks so much gentlemen, I will add your suggested stretches to my arsenal. Hi there! Thanks for the great videos. You guys are a hoot. I am currently suffering from lumbar back pain that started on one side but then a few days later moved over to the other side and became much worse over there (it was nearly in the same longitude, around the waist). Once there, it also started to spread over my hip toward the groin. I had been doing some walking on the treadmill on an incline for about 45 mins, thinking that would be fine but in retrospect I think it made it worse. I have a history with back pain as I’m quite tall (over 6’) and had a bulging disc injury about 10 years ago. I’m at a healthy/fit body weight but admittedly my core is not that strong. All that being said, I have two questions! Do you have a video you could recommend based on what I described, and, when doing the leg tests, do we do the same side or opposite side of the back pain? Thanks again! And yes, I hit ‘subscribe.’ :)

I saw a SI joint video of yours yesterday. The best one I think , is to use the door post to kick away

@@itsmeGeorgina , anything specific worked for you ? currently I'm practicing the part of shifting weight to the other and isolating the healthy one.

@physicaltherapyvideo (Bob & Brad), is there a potential issue with doing an SI stretch on the wrong side? Or is it okay to be symmetrical about it by alternating and doing both sides equally? Would sense of pain vs relief indicate how that would be decided? Thanks for the great video!

Thank you so much for your great videos. I have a question. I have Chronic Lymphedemia in my torso and legs, I've trapped a nerve in my back which causes my left foot to go semi numb on the sole when I lie down. Are there any exercises I can do to help?
