A tank needing to be that high to be use a part of his kit means that at any time, there's something in oorn's kit that the player is never benefiting from
I love this champion. His lore/ rivarly with volibear, his personality of a gruff dad/grandpa who secretly really loves you but doesn't like to show it, his unique playstyle of having both damage/tankiness/utlity, and his animation when he does all does things. It's really nice to see my favorite champion being covered, and I hope others try him out! Edit: Also, I should mention that I play league almost exclusively with friends, so while it doesn't necessarily solve Ornn's solo que problem, it really does help it.

Volibear tricked Ornn into killing his own followers the only followers Ornn ever had and grew to like cause they showed their devotion by trying to ever improve as craftsman which was very much to his liking. Even though he never officially acknowledged them as his followers it hit him very hard when they died even more so because it happened due to his own temper.

I adore Ornn! Sorry to see him in this series. He’s really the perfect tank IMO- skill-expressive, scaling/teamfighting, enough laning tools to not get shoved around all early game. My guess of “why no one plays Ornn” is probably “he’s a tank”. Which might be enough in this day and age, unfortunately.

There isn't a single "someone who shall not be named". Every champion released in the past 2 years is an overloaded mess. But yes, Akshan is the pinnacle of this.
@@marinmarinhola My disdain for Viego as a character aside, his kit is very simple. Ofc he has too high numbers, but it just requires few nerfs, you don't have to chop half his kit to make him balanced (unlike Yone, Gwen or Senna). To be fair the only champions released in last 2 years that i like are Rell and Sett (even though he is currently too strong). Everyone else is either badly designed, characterized or both. Akshan i have yet to see in game, but his preview screams balance nightmare. Yone hijacked Zed's ult into his basic ability and made it better, Gwen did the same with Xin's ult and Akshan dug up Revive and removed it's cooldown. That's indeed broken beyond recognition and he seems like straight up better Sivir - more dmg, more mobility and more safety.
@@Xertaron. that would be true if Virgo didn't have his passive and ult reset. His base kit isn't that complicated but his passive combined with his ult reset make him overloaded as hell. He has every single basic ability in the game. That's overloaded as hell IMO.

@@marinmarinhola The thing is if you reduce his numbers he will have to work harder to get a kill, which will make reseting more difficult. The reason why it's overpowered right now is because his dmg is too high and he can reliably reset over and over. The only thing i would change mechanically is to make him keep his items when transformed, similar to Dota 2's Morphling. That would give him a niche instead of being good against everyone.
I sometimes build it on Anivia when there's one enemy with very high damage because they got fed so I can actually stay close to deal my damage. It's a very late item I'd get though since then my damage is already high enough
I love Ornn to a spiritual level: Toplane is basically my home, and together with Kled and Mundo I really like playing him. The reserved, very cool guy that understands your space and even if it hides it below a gruff face, he can show his love in many different ways... Ornn is the father I always desired, and that I will never have, sadly...
@@hamter504 he is understatted, but still gets played in proplay, which is why he got nerfed. He is very killable now. I think he was better before this rework, because he could counter high cc and magic damage teams. Now that nieche is gone. Edit: sorry I meant him the guy who perfectly fits in the nieche, is gone.

Cause he, unlike other tanks takes some skill and the one time he was popular was when he could buy Sunfire/Abyssal and kill you by walking at you and missing everything. People that say tanks are boring are the same people who refuse to play any of the fun tanks.
i remember at one point people thought of the idea of just literally trying to stay in lane to soak up as much EXP as possible to hit level 11 or 12 really early like 15 mins and with proper CSing and maybe some assists or kills you could rush double sunfire with merc treads and literally be unkillable because both sunfires would evolve and now you have like 300 armor with sunfire and like 3000 health, any AD toplaner was officially out scaled by that point since sunfire was at the time much cheaper then 2 bruiser or full on damage items.
I main tanks actually (Sion and Kench mostly) but Ornn's gameplay just doesn't click with me for some reason. Last week i gave him a try once more and just solidified this opinion.
Ornn is isnt as braindead as Malphite, Maokai or Poppy, but playing fighters in toplane, like Irelia, Fiora and Riven is generally much more fun and rewarding than more skill expressive tanks like Shen, Zac and Ornn, because these champs have much more kills pressure and do more with a lead, yet inherently offer much less value to their team. What you also need to consider is how the experience is of playing against certain champions feels like to the guy on the recieving end, and why it leads to the community wanting to have these champs nerfed. Last season I would ban Ornn in almost every single game I played top, for a few reasons. I got absolutely slapped everytime I played against it, Ornn dealt way too much damage, and his trading pattern is very much like "Get off me/get out of my way", which feels very unfun to play against. Then came the issue of how much better he scaled, I'd argue Ornn was the closest thing in the game to an autowin if the game goes above 30 minutes, I'd rather have an Ornn on my team lategame than Kayle or Kassadin. You felt like you were in a rush to end the game, yet you could not do anything in lane to further your lead, because if you run into Ornn, you just lose. Even in the rare case you got a big lead in lane somehow, Ornn would be more usefull to his team than you anyways. This season changed things tho, now everything shreds tanks, and Ornn feels much weaker 1v1 with just 1 evolved item, but unfortunately there are still many toplaners that are unfun to go up against.
Honestly Ornn is probably my favorite champ to play. I recently started maining him and tbh he's underplayed because he's a high skill tank with easy to dodge abilities. Even if he gets buffed he'd either be broken or the numbers won't change the fact that you can just walk away from his ult.
As an Ornn main, thank you for making this. It really did hurt losing one thing after another as Riot tried to balance him, but he truly is the champion they forgot when the new season rolled around. His dash hitboxing is still pretty scuffed at times and many of the tooltip texts in his quick crafting menu are still unfinished. stuff like "Item_desc_ID_1101" kind of thing when other items are like "Crowd control and health gain." Just a nitpick, really, but it is good to see my boy get some attention in a video like this.
I mean to be fair most of the missing text items for passive is new shit added after his release. but yeah the bugs with his E's hitbox needs to be fixed it actually gets him killed.

@@biggiecheese2004 not really useful bcz of the passive more important bcz the raw stat for really cheap, it has 650 health and 20 cdr (2300g for the raw stat) for 2500g is so good, the 2nd best option being warmog at 800 health and 10 cdr (2400g for the raw stat) + 600g in regeneration wich SUCKS ASS in lol when u explode in 5 sec, for 3000g which is so much better they can't be compared
i swear man, all the time, last game i played new lillia, i had like 4k health, riftmaker, demonic, cosmic, zhonyas, spirit visage later sold into thornmail, i was still getting oneshot by everything, sometimes it feels like either i gotta go full damage build, because on tank, bruiser or full ap build i am still getting oneshot on all cases, so at that point one shot them with a Q and burn them to death and then die, like, what's the point.
Both armor and magic pen nowadays is nuts to the point where they often feel like the best buys against both tanks and squishies. Can't remember the last time I've opted for rabadons over void staff or at least its penetration component.

Ornn is my favorite tank. Beyond most other tanks that exist he feels like the one champ that actually feels skillful to play. That is something I am kinda missing with most other tanks who feel very much "I do 1 thing and then take damage"
@Arthur But as Vars mentions in the video tanks are meant to be strong mid-game. They start off weak with no armour, magic resist or health, then at around 2 items (mid-game) they possess more relative power than a 2 item adc + support. Despite in your anecdote you still killed the cho'gath meaning you won the fight, just that it took 8 seconds not 1-2 that you perceived your 3 kill lead made you believe you should achieve. What Vars states is that tank items have diminishing returns, such that with each successive tank item purchased the relative power increase is much less than an adc item purchase. Thus in late game you will shred/kite the tank. But i digress, i agree there should be counter-tank items but i would also like for there to be more niche tank items like in previous seasons like adaptive helm for dps mages or more unique actives in the mythic's rather than all 3 having sunfire passive + small extra effect. Less damage more utility is what i want.

Tankiness and utility, my favorite tools when it comes to helping in teamfights. Ornn is like the perfect champ for someone like me, even his visual design is top tier.
He is tank of the tanks, his passive literally gives him bonus armour/resistance/health for every armour/resistance/health he gets from items. He also posses shit ton of CC and was considered champion with most knocups in his kit. Where is problem you ask? Well you could look at Vars video :,,Tanks: Why Do They Do So Much Damage? | League of Legends" and you will get your anwser. In the short there was added soooo much anti-tank stuff and champions and so little rewards that it is simply not worth it.
I miss release Ornn, because everyone thought he was super weak and did not respect you at all. You could get the Gold income rune(forget the name) and just stay in lane the entire game and be 1-2 Levels ahead of your opponents. But then they buffed him and suddenly "you're not good at LoL you just are abusing something op!".
250k M7 Ornn main here, this character his lore, look, persona, everything, hands down favourite champ in the game. Ornn supp is lowkey broken against most bot lane duos. His top pressure has slacked off a bit lately but hes so fun.
I love this guy. He is one of my favorite champs to play when it comes to "off meta" bot comps. Have my Yuumi friend sit on me, I rush Bramble, and I can do some good damage and basically never die or let the enemy bot get an advantage. It is hilarious

Ornn is such a fun, expressive champion. Unfortunately unless a champion can 1v9 damage the enemy team they aren't going to be as popular in league solo que. There isn't any way to solve this, people don't trust strangers to take advantage of a champions utility. If Ornn didn't have such a hard scaling passive he'd probably have already ended up like Maokai in support more often. I'm glad champions that are more team oriented exist though, I derive a lot more enjoyment supporting a team than trying to do everything on my own.
I think one of the reasons is all the true damage in the game as well. You feel squishy as hell anyways even if you're a tank. In top lane specially. Sett, Gwen, Camille, Fiora.
well for Sett if you got hit by his true damage most of the time you deserved it since his W isnt exactly difficult to dodge, most people just dont bother walking the 5 feet to the side it would take to only get hit with physical damage for some odd reason.
Buffs starts game w/ dorans shield, ring, and sword(no sell value). While near shop gets a 20%discount. At start an on lv up builds a shield =(12+lv)% max hp shield. Lower when can build mastereworks to lv 11. Add Ornn can build 6 mythic items.
Well I'm glad you take this extra step. Music can be an integral part of setting the mood or helping people remember the video more. Like the I'll remember the over powered abilities video more because I remember how well the music went with the tone and pacing of the videos themeing and topics.
I don't know about Ornn specifically (waiting for the video), but I think tanks in general suck rn, their items are underwhelming, they get shredded in teamfights and there's so much true/max health damage and resistances pen in the game, as someone who loves to frontline I'd rather play a bruiser or a skirmicher, they may not be as tanky in terms of stats but their crazy sustain compensates for It, and damage as well.
This, tanks aren’t tanks, with all the max Heath % and true dmg running around (looking at you Viego and Gwen), tanks can’t do their job, they can’t tank anything without Viego going w auto q auto (full conq procs with that one little combo btw) and absolutely shredding them before they can do anything. Idk how to fix it either, they can’t just go and buff armor+mr numbers on every item, but at the same time that might be the only way to make them fun to play and legitimately viable. Rn if you want to be a big bulky champion you might as well just play sett, morde, or another juggernaut that can dish the damage back instead of a tank.
Tanks aren't played becouse you play solo q It's a free for all and they require a team They have a very hard time winning 1v1s (they aren't ment to do so) and since 1v1s and 2v2s are THE solo q environment that makes them repulsive to a lot of players
Tahm after his rework is awesome. Probably the only playable tank nowadays. But that's because he is overtuned. He can punishes and outsustains and outtrades any juggernaut or skirmisher in lane. And that's just by hitting his Q and AA'ing. Which is ironic,, since Ornn and other tanks are just too telegraphed. Like what's the point of playing a tank when you're as squishy as any other champion, can't splitpush well and your damage although a lot higher than back in the day, is still low? It doesn't feel like you're playing a tank when an Irelia can just quickly go in, do a few AA's, dash out and win the trade?

@@Envojus Tanks just aren’t an enjoyable class anymore, if you want individual power, if you want the ability to win the game to be in YOUR control, not your teammates, playing a tank is just about the worst thing you can do. Even when in an organized comp, unless the friend you are playing with is a really good damage carry (be it an assassin, bruiser or adc) being a tank is just not worth it. In a game with an atmosphere as competitive as league, being able to 1v9 grows more and more important, this is why champs like Kayn, Kha’Zix, Evelynn become more popular in the jungle, with nunu, zac and j4 all being sidelined. The same applies to top and support, people will choose Irelia and Pyke a million times before they choose Ornn or Alistar.
I play ornn religiously ( seriously, I have like 200k points on him ), and for the most part, I agree with you, but there a few things I like to say. 1: with the changes to warmongers armor, ornn can build it first item and can restore crazy amounts of health so that ornn can be passive and allow him to play passively until he can get bamis sinder ( or at least that's how I play it ) 2: ornn with a group of 3+ of people playing together ( group play, not solo) he can be vital since then he can build based on how well his team is doing. 3: ornn power spike is when he get his first item and the extra stats he gets his mythic ( aka Sunfire ) and allow him to become more aggressive without putting him it that much danger ( unless it's a fiora, seriously riot, why ) 4: while yes tank shreding exist, ornn build pure tank and with the crazy amount of healing he can get with warmongs , he can get out of any situation with just flash and 1 to 2 searing charges.
When true damage was the only problem with ornn hp wich never lost value would be my go to thing to max but now that divine surrender is the most meta thing too building HP gives the enemy more healing and building armor is just bonked by true damage and armor pen along with black cleaver
I always thought it was funny how they never wanted to give Ornn a skin because he wasn't marketable, despite him getting picked in tons of pro play games which means he was being advertised all the time realistically. Unrelated, but when you're out of characters that fit "Why No One Plays", why not hit on some of the characters in the highest one trick territory? Something like Why Only One Tricks Play (insert name)
I got him the other day. Very fun to play! One ornn tip that I read that really helped me: You can be pretty far behind in CS and kills and you can still bring it back and win the game. Just don't die too many times. I know that's a very straightforward tip but it's so easy to forget that and lose the match in your mind simply because you died a couple of times early on and you can't CS as much because of an oppressive lane opponent.

As Ornn Mein agrees, Ornn is a very team champion,his potential to solocarry the game is incredibly low(although there are a couple of such games) and it gets frustrating periodically when you realize that even after playing well, you will be useless if your team is absolute zero. I am one of the Ornn mains because I love the feeling of "do you really wanna fight me? u know I won´t take any damage right? oops you are dead" but a mix of the upgrade level increase and the s11 item rework kinda made bruisers and slayers OP and tanks giga squishy. Also the "removal" of mana as a buyable stat makes laning on Ornn pretty whack since you either have to go corupting pot (but you cant really use the bonus damage on it because you cant trade) or basically never use Q.
I think doing a video on champs who changed roles would be Interesting, maybe reasons why they changed and instances where despite riots attempts, they were still good in the old role
I’m surprised you didn’t mention when Mythics were added. Ornn used to be able to build 2 of his own items, usually gaining 1000 hp AT LEAST at level 13. Now he can only upgrade his mythic, giving him much worse stats than before.
I have played ornn since his release until i found irelia a few monthsback before i became a otp. Everything about ornn just feels right. His thematic to voice lines to visuals. I love all of it. I played over 100 games with him when rhe season was ending the next month. Everyone said he was bad on release but he wasnt. People were just building the wrong stuff. The only problem he had was mana which they fixed with his base mana buff. I will forever love Ornn as a champ and my goal is still to find who the voice actor of him is and i will always play him if we need a tank or irelia is picked

This one ... this one will be sad. I am fond of Ornn. There was put so much heart into his story, his design and his gameplay. He even carried me out of silver. But now against all those 200 years champions with so much damage? Even sadder that he is the last monster champion done in four years.
I play ornn because I like his characther, his animations, his design, his team player/CC heavy play style, his unique passive and awesome ult, might not be that strong but it's fun
I once played a game where I was top laneing against a Kail. My friend knew that Kail was unnstopable in the late game, so he told me to make them recall as much as possible and to not die to them. I proceeded to spam my q to whittle down Kail's HP. They rage quit half way through the game. XD
I recently picked up Ornn when he was a free champ, and instantly fell in love with his playstyle, if you can play it out, and maybe get some early kills, you can be a big decider in a match as Ornn can build a ton of items that give him shield, or sustainability, once again, a really fun champ once you know what u need to do.

oh i recognize the FFXIII music :D as an ornn lover i appreciate the use of it. the FF13 series might not be the best set of games ever but wow the music pretty much is the best ever.
Since you made the series "Why no one plays anymore" you could also do a sereis "why everyone plays now". A good example is Xin, he was one of the least pickes champions for two years, and after his mini rework in 11.6 he has risen in popularity. Just dropping an idea for content.
I can agree with Riot that Ornn shouldn't gain resources after buying an item while not in fountain, but Ornn should still retain it's max HP% and max mana% after buying the items

It kinda sucks that a whole role as been made mostly useless because of how much pen and true damage riot is giving everyone and thing. Walked in to a fight with 5k hp and 300 armour and didn’t even last 3 seconds.
it's because tanks can also oneshot now. the damage in the game is completely out of hand, tanks should be tanky and adcs/carry champs (azir, ryze, cass) should be the ones dishing out high dps. we're literally in league of oneshots right now and it's disgusting and boring
The short answer: He's a tank in a meta dominated by tank-busting juggernauts and skirmishers that do that role's job 100x better since death is a much better CC than even a 4 second stun.
I think it's funny that he said anathema chains is hyper specific. Tbh, it's a mainstay in most orn builds, if your laser beats you throw it on then and then as the game progresses throw it on the main carry of enemy team. Typically with a tank like ornn only 1 or 2 members of enemy team deal meaningful damage, so having anathemas is great for tanks as by past 3rd item flat armor and Mr are meh stats that fall off hard. Utility options like anathema, knights vow, even warmogs to stay on the map are more useful
Cause he s not a popular champion, funny hahaahahaha isnt it both funny and sad how lux gets a skin a year while other champs dont get one in 3 years, he s just not popular AND MONEY SELLS, league is a free game so riot wants money, that s it. And why would they put their resources into an ornn skin when they can just make another lux one and get 5 times the profit.
1. Monster man/Non human champ. Riot said that that monster/non human/beastmen champs aren’t popular so they don’t prioritize skins on them. 2. Not a pretty boi/Bishounen champ. Ornn is a burly goat god of fire and the hearth. He’s No sett, Ezreal, Yasuo, Yone. 3. Not a waifu champ. Ahri, Lux, MF, Samira, kaisa and senna are getting skins every other patch or so. Yet kaisa who came out a few months after ornn gets skins near instantly.
Ornn lost almost 100 armor and magic resist and about 1k hp at lvl 13 from last season to this. I love Ornn but he just feels like a worse malphite until level 17.
Building Ornn 2 sunfire capes as first items gave him immediately almost 150 armor & 500 HP when they where upgraded, AD champions where just tickling you.
I would really apreciate a shield or sustain mechanic trading it for damage, I really like this champ, but it often happens that I get outsustain at times, cause u cant go ravenous or lifesteal, so in the midgame if u go against a sustain lane and they know how to trade by bits, ur done.
Ah yes Ornn my main. I love playing him. The personality, the kit and the tankiness. I guess he just clicked for me and now he is my go to pick in most games unless i want to play something else. Nothing is more satisfying than beating most popular top picks who think they win lane because ornn builds tank items. Also rito thx for heartsteel. Now i can have my brittle+heartsteel proc satisfaction.

I adore Ornn! Sorry to see him in this series. He’s really the perfect tank IMO- skill-expressive, scaling/teamfighting, enough laning tools to not get shoved around all early game.
My guess of “why no one plays Ornn” is probably “he’s a tank”. Which might be enough in this day and age, unfortunately.

To simply put it - he's honest champion. He doesn't have a kit that is overloaded through the roof with clear strenghts, weaknesses and counterplay. Not like some who shall not be named.
There isn't a single "someone who shall not be named". Every champion released in the past 2 years is an overloaded mess. But yes, Akshan is the pinnacle of this.
@@marinmarinhola My disdain for Viego as a character aside, his kit is very simple. Ofc he has too high numbers, but it just requires few nerfs, you don't have to chop half his kit to make him balanced (unlike Yone, Gwen or Senna).
To be fair the only champions released in last 2 years that i like are Rell and Sett (even though he is currently too strong). Everyone else is either badly designed, characterized or both. Akshan i have yet to see in game, but his preview screams balance nightmare.
Yone hijacked Zed's ult into his basic ability and made it better, Gwen did the same with Xin's ult and Akshan dug up Revive and removed it's cooldown.
That's indeed broken beyond recognition and he seems like straight up better Sivir - more dmg, more mobility and more safety.
@@Xertaron. that would be true if Virgo didn't have his passive and ult reset. His base kit isn't that complicated but his passive combined with his ult reset make him overloaded as hell. He has every single basic ability in the game. That's overloaded as hell IMO.

@@marinmarinhola The thing is if you reduce his numbers he will have to work harder to get a kill, which will make reseting more difficult. The reason why it's overpowered right now is because his dmg is too high and he can reliably reset over and over.
The only thing i would change mechanically is to make him keep his items when transformed, similar to Dota 2's Morphling. That would give him a niche instead of being good against everyone.

I sometimes build it on Anivia when there's one enemy with very high damage because they got fed so I can actually stay close to deal my damage. It's a very late item I'd get though since then my damage is already high enough

I love Ornn to a spiritual level: Toplane is basically my home, and together with Kled and Mundo I really like playing him. The reserved, very cool guy that understands your space and even if it hides it below a gruff face, he can show his love in many different ways... Ornn is the father I always desired, and that I will never have, sadly...

@@hamter504 he is understatted, but still gets played in proplay, which is why he got nerfed. He is very killable now. I think he was better before this rework, because he could counter high cc and magic damage teams. Now that nieche is gone.

i remember at one point people thought of the idea of just literally trying to stay in lane to soak up as much EXP as possible to hit level 11 or 12 really early like 15 mins and with proper CSing and maybe some assists or kills you could rush double sunfire with merc treads and literally be unkillable because both sunfires would evolve and now you have like 300 armor with sunfire and like 3000 health, any AD toplaner was officially out scaled by that point since sunfire was at the time much cheaper then 2 bruiser or full on damage items.
I main tanks actually (Sion and Kench mostly) but Ornn's gameplay just doesn't click with me for some reason. Last week i gave him a try once more and just solidified this opinion.
Ornn is isnt as braindead as Malphite, Maokai or Poppy, but playing fighters in toplane, like Irelia, Fiora and Riven is generally much more fun and rewarding than more skill expressive tanks like Shen, Zac and Ornn, because these champs have much more kills pressure and do more with a lead, yet inherently offer much less value to their team.
What you also need to consider is how the experience is of playing against certain champions feels like to the guy on the recieving end, and why it leads to the community wanting to have these champs nerfed.
Last season I would ban Ornn in almost every single game I played top, for a few reasons. I got absolutely slapped everytime I played against it, Ornn dealt way too much damage, and his trading pattern is very much like "Get off me/get out of my way", which feels very unfun to play against. Then came the issue of how much better he scaled, I'd argue Ornn was the closest thing in the game to an autowin if the game goes above 30 minutes, I'd rather have an Ornn on my team lategame than Kayle or Kassadin. You felt like you were in a rush to end the game, yet you could not do anything in lane to further your lead, because if you run into Ornn, you just lose. Even in the rare case you got a big lead in lane somehow, Ornn would be more usefull to his team than you anyways.
This season changed things tho, now everything shreds tanks, and Ornn feels much weaker 1v1 with just 1 evolved item, but unfortunately there are still many toplaners that are unfun to go up against.

Honestly Ornn is probably my favorite champ to play. I recently started maining him and tbh he's underplayed because he's a high skill tank with easy to dodge abilities. Even if he gets buffed he'd either be broken or the numbers won't change the fact that you can just walk away from his ult.
Or just cc him so he cant hit his ult, or he miss timed it. XD.

Almost all the champs in this series I play. I just like the uniqueness of their playstyle and the pain I have to inflict on myself when I do.

As an Ornn main, thank you for making this. It really did hurt losing one thing after another as Riot tried to balance him, but he truly is the champion they forgot when the new season rolled around. His dash hitboxing is still pretty scuffed at times and many of the tooltip texts in his quick crafting menu are still unfinished. stuff like "Item_desc_ID_1101" kind of thing when other items are like "Crowd control and health gain."
Just a nitpick, really, but it is good to see my boy get some attention in a video like this.
I mean to be fair most of the missing text items for passive is new shit added after his release. but yeah the bugs with his E's hitbox needs to be fixed it actually gets him killed.
To this day, his tooltip mistakenly says the Force of Nature has health regeneration on it. Which it hasn't had in quite a while.

@@watawota2510 you don't need a video it's a simple concept. ornn scales harder than all other tanks and wants a farm lane as much as possible. anathemas gives him very one sided trades in lane and is extremely threatening in ganks/dives if your jungler has extra cc with the tenacity debuff

i swear man, all the time, last game i played new lillia, i had like 4k health, riftmaker, demonic, cosmic, zhonyas, spirit visage later sold into thornmail, i was still getting oneshot by everything, sometimes it feels like either i gotta go full damage build, because on tank, bruiser or full ap build i am still getting oneshot on all cases, so at that point one shot them with a Q and burn them to death and then die, like, what's the point.
Both armor and magic pen nowadays is nuts to the point where they often feel like the best buys against both tanks and squishies. Can't remember the last time I've opted for rabadons over void staff or at least its penetration component.
its so sad to see Ornn get into these series, he's an awesome champion for many reasons, but also I'm very excited to watch this video on my birthday tommorow

Ornn is my favorite tank. Beyond most other tanks that exist he feels like the one champ that actually feels skillful to play. That is something I am kinda missing with most other tanks who feel very much "I do 1 thing and then take damage"

@Arthur But as Vars mentions in the video tanks are meant to be strong mid-game. They start off weak with no armour, magic resist or health, then at around 2 items (mid-game) they possess more relative power than a 2 item adc + support.
Despite in your anecdote you still killed the cho'gath meaning you won the fight, just that it took 8 seconds not 1-2 that you perceived your 3 kill lead made you believe you should achieve. What Vars states is that tank items have diminishing returns, such that with each successive tank item purchased the relative power increase is much less than an adc item purchase. Thus in late game you will shred/kite the tank.
But i digress, i agree there should be counter-tank items but i would also like for there to be more niche tank items like in previous seasons like adaptive helm for dps mages or more unique actives in the mythic's rather than all 3 having sunfire passive + small extra effect. Less damage more utility is what i want.

Tankiness and utility, my favorite tools when it comes to helping in teamfights. Ornn is like the perfect champ for someone like me, even his visual design is top tier.

He is tank of the tanks, his passive literally gives him bonus armour/resistance/health for every armour/resistance/health he gets from items. He also posses shit ton of CC and was considered champion with most knocups in his kit. Where is problem you ask? Well you could look at Vars video :,,Tanks: Why Do They Do So Much Damage? | League of Legends" and you will get your anwser. In the short there was added soooo much anti-tank stuff and champions and so little rewards that it is simply not worth it.

I miss release Ornn, because everyone thought he was super weak and did not respect you at all. You could get the Gold income rune(forget the name) and just stay in lane the entire game and be 1-2 Levels ahead of your opponents. But then they buffed him and suddenly "you're not good at LoL you just are abusing something op!".

250k M7 Ornn main here, this character his lore, look, persona, everything, hands down favourite champ in the game. Ornn supp is lowkey broken against most bot lane duos. His top pressure has slacked off a bit lately but hes so fun.

I love this guy. He is one of my favorite champs to play when it comes to "off meta" bot comps. Have my Yuumi friend sit on me, I rush Bramble, and I can do some good damage and basically never die or let the enemy bot get an advantage. It is hilarious

As a fellow Ornn Main I have to say that with a pot into dorans shield in lane start, you have a pretty reliable early game sustain
Ornn is such a fun, expressive champion. Unfortunately unless a champion can 1v9 damage the enemy team they aren't going to be as popular in league solo que. There isn't any way to solve this, people don't trust strangers to take advantage of a champions utility. If Ornn didn't have such a hard scaling passive he'd probably have already ended up like Maokai in support more often.
I'm glad champions that are more team oriented exist though, I derive a lot more enjoyment supporting a team than trying to do everything on my own.

I think one of the reasons is all the true damage in the game as well. You feel squishy as hell anyways even if you're a tank. In top lane specially. Sett, Gwen, Camille, Fiora.
well for Sett if you got hit by his true damage most of the time you deserved it since his W isnt exactly difficult to dodge, most people just dont bother walking the 5 feet to the side it would take to only get hit with physical damage for some odd reason.

Buffs starts game w/ dorans shield, ring, and sword(no sell value). While near shop gets a 20%discount. At start an on lv up builds a shield =(12+lv)% max hp shield. Lower when can build mastereworks to lv 11. Add Ornn can build 6 mythic items.

I don't know about Ornn specifically (waiting for the video), but I think tanks in general suck rn, their items are underwhelming, they get shredded in teamfights and there's so much true/max health damage and resistances pen in the game, as someone who loves to frontline I'd rather play a bruiser or a skirmicher, they may not be as tanky in terms of stats but their crazy sustain compensates for It, and damage as well.
This, tanks aren’t tanks, with all the max Heath % and true dmg running around (looking at you Viego and Gwen), tanks can’t do their job, they can’t tank anything without Viego going w auto q auto (full conq procs with that one little combo btw) and absolutely shredding them before they can do anything. Idk how to fix it either, they can’t just go and buff armor+mr numbers on every item, but at the same time that might be the only way to make them fun to play and legitimately viable. Rn if you want to be a big bulky champion you might as well just play sett, morde, or another juggernaut that can dish the damage back instead of a tank.

They have a very hard time winning 1v1s (they aren't ment to do so) and since 1v1s and 2v2s are THE solo q environment that makes them repulsive to a lot of players
Tahm after his rework is awesome. Probably the only playable tank nowadays. But that's because he is overtuned. He can punishes and outsustains and outtrades any juggernaut or skirmisher in lane. And that's just by hitting his Q and AA'ing. Which is ironic,, since Ornn and other tanks are just too telegraphed.
Like what's the point of playing a tank when you're as squishy as any other champion, can't splitpush well and your damage although a lot higher than back in the day, is still low?
It doesn't feel like you're playing a tank when an Irelia can just quickly go in, do a few AA's, dash out and win the trade?

@@Envojus Tanks just aren’t an enjoyable class anymore, if you want individual power, if you want the ability to win the game to be in YOUR control, not your teammates, playing a tank is just about the worst thing you can do. Even when in an organized comp, unless the friend you are playing with is a really good damage carry (be it an assassin, bruiser or adc) being a tank is just not worth it. In a game with an atmosphere as competitive as league, being able to 1v9 grows more and more important, this is why champs like Kayn, Kha’Zix, Evelynn become more popular in the jungle, with nunu, zac and j4 all being sidelined. The same applies to top and support, people will choose Irelia and Pyke a million times before they choose Ornn or Alistar.
I play ornn religiously ( seriously, I have like 200k points on him ), and for the most part, I agree with you, but there a few things I like to say.
1: with the changes to warmongers armor, ornn can build it first item and can restore crazy amounts of health so that ornn can be passive and allow him to play passively until he can get bamis sinder ( or at least that's how I play it )
2: ornn with a group of 3+ of people playing together ( group play, not solo) he can be vital since then he can build based on how well his team is doing.
3: ornn power spike is when he get his first item and the extra stats he gets his mythic ( aka Sunfire ) and allow him to become more aggressive without putting him it that much danger ( unless it's a fiora, seriously riot, why )
4: while yes tank shreding exist, ornn build pure tank and with the crazy amount of healing he can get with warmongs , he can get out of any situation with just flash and 1 to 2 searing charges.
When true damage was the only problem with ornn hp wich never lost value would be my go to thing to max but now that divine surrender is the most meta thing too building HP gives the enemy more healing and building armor is just bonked by true damage and armor pen along with black cleaver
I always thought it was funny how they never wanted to give Ornn a skin because he wasn't marketable, despite him getting picked in tons of pro play games which means he was being advertised all the time realistically.
Unrelated, but when you're out of characters that fit "Why No One Plays", why not hit on some of the characters in the highest one trick territory? Something like Why Only One Tricks Play (insert name)

I got him the other day. Very fun to play! One ornn tip that I read that really helped me:
You can be pretty far behind in CS and kills and you can still bring it back and win the game. Just don't die too many times.
I know that's a very straightforward tip but it's so easy to forget that and lose the match in your mind simply because you died a couple of times early on and you can't CS as much because of an oppressive lane opponent.
I love how emphatically he said "almost twenty percent!" meanwhile Kai'Sa has hovered around that playrate since i started the game.

As Ornn Mein agrees, Ornn is a very team champion,his potential to solocarry the game is incredibly low(although there are a couple of such games) and it gets frustrating periodically when you realize that even after playing well, you will be useless if your team is absolute zero. But i steel love this sick Lamb guy

I am one of the Ornn mains because I love the feeling of "do you really wanna fight me? u know I won´t take any damage right? oops you are dead" but a mix of the upgrade level increase and the s11 item rework kinda made bruisers and slayers OP and tanks giga squishy. Also the "removal" of mana as a buyable stat makes laning on Ornn pretty whack since you either have to go corupting pot (but you cant really use the bonus damage on it because you cant trade) or basically never use Q.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention when Mythics were added. Ornn used to be able to build 2 of his own items, usually gaining 1000 hp AT LEAST at level 13. Now he can only upgrade his mythic, giving him much worse stats than before.
I did. I literally had a segment where I talked about him having the best two item powerspike in existence.
They changed the possibility of a second upgraded item for the 4% increase of defensive stats per ally upgrade.
5:11 Aatrox can't fight tanks, it takes him a whole damn year to kill them since he doesn't have any %max, mixed damage, or %armor pen
I have played ornn since his release until i found irelia a few monthsback before i became a otp. Everything about ornn just feels right. His thematic to voice lines to visuals. I love all of it. I played over 100 games with him when rhe season was ending the next month. Everyone said he was bad on release but he wasnt. People were just building the wrong stuff. The only problem he had was mana which they fixed with his base mana buff. I will forever love Ornn as a champ and my goal is still to find who the voice actor of him is and i will always play him if we need a tank or irelia is picked

This one ... this one will be sad. I am fond of Ornn. There was put so much heart into his story, his design and his gameplay. He even carried me out of silver. But now against all those 200 years champions with so much damage? Even sadder that he is the last monster champion done in four years.

I play ornn because I like his characther, his animations, his design, his team player/CC heavy play style, his unique passive and awesome ult, might not be that strong but it's fun
I once played a game where I was top laneing against a Kail. My friend knew that Kail was unnstopable in the late game, so he told me to make them recall as much as possible and to not die to them. I proceeded to spam my q to whittle down Kail's HP. They rage quit half way through the game. XD
My boi Ornn is one of those champs you rarely see, but you are happy (or at least no one complains) when it's on your team.
I recently picked up Ornn when he was a free champ, and instantly fell in love with his playstyle, if you can play it out, and maybe get some early kills, you can be a big decider in a match as Ornn can build a ton of items that give him shield, or sustainability, once again, a really fun champ once you know what u need to do.

oh i recognize the FFXIII music :D as an ornn lover i appreciate the use of it. the FF13 series might not be the best set of games ever but wow the music pretty much is the best ever.
Ornn's great! Until the enemy nasus or yorick picks up divine sunderer and then all of the sudden, you're the squishiest champ in the game
Since you made the series "Why no one plays anymore" you could also do a sereis "why everyone plays now". A good example is Xin, he was one of the least pickes champions for two years, and after his mini rework in 11.6 he has risen in popularity. Just dropping an idea for content.

Ornn has been my current 1st pick top for like 5 months now. I love him
I can agree with Riot that Ornn shouldn't gain resources after buying an item while not in fountain, but Ornn should still retain it's max HP% and max mana% after buying the items
I love playing ornn he’s lots of fun and think that more people should try him out
I think he is broken. Every time i play him (especially clash) I have most damage, cc and take the most damage. I also can make my teammates stronger.

It kinda sucks that a whole role as been made mostly useless because of how much pen and true damage riot is giving everyone and thing. Walked in to a fight with 5k hp and 300 armour and didn’t even last 3 seconds.
it's because tanks can also oneshot now. the damage in the game is completely out of hand, tanks should be tanky and adcs/carry champs (azir, ryze, cass) should be the ones dishing out high dps. we're literally in league of oneshots right now and it's disgusting and boring

The short answer: He's a tank in a meta dominated by tank-busting juggernauts and skirmishers that do that role's job 100x better since death is a much better CC than even a 4 second stun.
I loved ornn, i stopped playing after the item rework. he was fun because of the isborn gauntlet proc.

I think it's funny that he said anathema chains is hyper specific. Tbh, it's a mainstay in most orn builds, if your laser beats you throw it on then and then as the game progresses throw it on the main carry of enemy team. Typically with a tank like ornn only 1 or 2 members of enemy team deal meaningful damage, so having anathemas is great for tanks as by past 3rd item flat armor and Mr are meh stats that fall off hard. Utility options like anathema, knights vow, even warmogs to stay on the map are more useful

Cause he s not a popular champion, funny hahaahahaha isnt it both funny and sad how lux gets a skin a year while other champs dont get one in 3 years, he s just not popular AND MONEY SELLS, league is a free game so riot wants money, that s it. And why would they put their resources into an ornn skin when they can just make another lux one and get 5 times the profit.
1. Monster man/Non human champ. Riot said that that monster/non human/beastmen champs aren’t popular so they don’t prioritize skins on them.
2. Not a pretty boi/Bishounen champ. Ornn is a burly goat god of fire and the hearth. He’s No sett, Ezreal, Yasuo, Yone.
3. Not a waifu champ. Ahri, Lux, MF, Samira, kaisa and senna are getting skins every other patch or so.
Yet kaisa who came out a few months after ornn gets skins near instantly.

Ornn lost almost 100 armor and magic resist and about 1k hp at lvl 13 from last season to this. I love Ornn but he just feels like a worse malphite until level 17.
as a mastery 7 ornn main, i can say only one thing
he is one of the most fun to play champs in league
Building Ornn 2 sunfire capes as first items gave him immediately almost 150 armor & 500 HP when they where upgraded, AD champions where just tickling you.
I would really apreciate a shield or sustain mechanic trading it for damage, I really like this champ, but it often happens that I get outsustain at times, cause u cant go ravenous or lifesteal, so in the midgame if u go against a sustain lane and they know how to trade by bits, ur done.
sunfire cape meta was the time of the unkillable ornn. I literally could stand in fountain for 3 secs and walk out with half of my health

I guess he just clicked for me and now he is my go to pick in most games unless i want to play something else.
Nothing is more satisfying than beating most popular top picks who think they win lane because ornn builds tank items.

I love Ornn and he was one of the first champs I ever tried, and to this day I main my Beefy Boi.
